it was exposed to rain and worked beautifully.
This works well, but I had it in my head that this would do what I dialed every time I needed to use it without ever having to touch it again. My brain didn't connect the fact that this is not a timer that repeats after the first time you dial it. I had wanted something that would repeat due to the outlet needed for my bug zapper was behind an old vehicle we have stored in our garage. I was trying to avoid climbing up and over the vehicle to get to the outlet. Unfortunately, I still had to do that so I had to move the bug zapper to another location. This is not the fault of the timer, but my own. For its purpose, this timer does what it says it does in the description and does it well. I am telling my story so someone else can be informed too. It's a well made product and once I moved the timer and zapper, it was exposed to rain and worked beautifully.

Fantastic Sensor and options
I may not have read the description closely enough when I bought it, but I for some reason though this had a "dusk to dawn" setting or just a 2, 4, etc. timer. The hour options timer is actually the time from when the sensor kicks on to when it will automatically turn off. That makes sense for Christmas lights, but I was excited to learn that's how it worked. I use LED lights, so the amount of electricity spent isn't much, but it was nice to have them come on automatically and then turn off after we'd gone to bed. I almost spent double to get one I could turn on and off with my phone, but this got the job done and was much cheaper.

Rain proof - super easy to setup
Super easy to setup. Took less than a minute and obvious - no instructions required. I live in Seattle where it literally does rain 24/7 for months on end... they are holding up nicely in the rain so far (it's been a few weeks) They are easy to read and look good. We have lighting setup all over the yard and power bills were getting big. I just set these up and put it on the dusk/dawn setting... all 3 that I have setup work flawlessly. Excellent purchase! Ended up buying an additional one with no hesitation.

Coleman Outdoor Timer
This timer is lightweight, works properly, and seems to be durable (I say this having owned it for only a few weeks). It has several settings (2-, 4-, 6-, or 8- hours, dusk to dawn, always on, always off). Overall the timer is pretty low tech, which I like. I don't anticipate malfunction later on. I would purchase this product again, especially at the reasonable price I paid for it. To anyone considering using this timer for holiday lights, I have a few thoughts (take them or leave them): I recommend that you consider the cord length between where the plug is and the timing control unit. If your goal is to use this timer for outdoor lights, particularly in a covered or semi-covered space (i.e. a roofed balcony, a patio with a trellace), then mounting the timer may become necessary if you cannot otherwise orient the timer towards the sun. If this is your situation, you may want to consider an option with a longer cord. Alternatively, you could use a small extension cord, if compatible, to help the timer reach a better position for mounting. I was not able to mount the unit onto the exterior wall of my apartment, which inhibits its ability to function properly under conditions where there is very little (but some) sunlight remaining because it rotates slightly. When it starts to get close to sunset, the unit alternates between on and off a few times before finally staying on. To me, this is no big deal. As long it doesn't damage the lights it is controlling, I'm happy. I want to emphasize that this is not the fault of the product, but rather a byproduct of shortsightedness on my part. Part of the issue for me was the way the outlet was installed (it protrudes from the wall and is too far from the ground to just set the unit on the floor) and the fact that the outlet has a cover, making it more difficult to bend the cord to a proper mounting position while still being able to reach the lights it is supposed to be controlling.

Functions great! No problems from rain. (Rain-proof as long as in the vertical position per enclosed instructions.)
This has been working great for over a month. It has rained very heavy at times & the rain has not affected the function. It does state in the included instructions that the device needs to be hanging in the vertical position in order to be rain-proof. I use the dusk to dawn setting. I have not used any of the other settings.

The Best All-Around Outdoor Timer
We bought this to replace the exact same timer that died after about 15 years of continuous service. If all you need is a good, reliable timer that will turn your lights on at dusk and keep them on for 2, 4, 6, 8 hours or until dawn, this is the one to get. You don't need batteries, you don't have to reset it after your power has been off, and you can use it outdoors as well as indoors. We looked at all of the "modern" timers and didn't find any that looked like it could the job as well as this one. I was very happy to find this replacement.

Works great!
I got this as a replacement for an outdoor timer for our Xmas lights that we have had for probably 10 years before it capped out. So in the prowl I went for a new one with a good price! This one definitely fit the bill on the price, so then my next step was how well it worked. I have been using it for about 3 weeks now and it has worked great! It comes on right as the sun is setting, almost perfectly as it's just getting dark enough to be able to see the lights when they are lit. We used to struggle with the one outlet, where it would trigger the gfi to go off. So far, in the weeks we have been using this, it hasn't tripped off yet, which leads me to beleive it may have been our old timer. So far, so good!!

Excellent
I read the reviews about the operation not working. Not true, it works great. When switched to dusk/dawn mode, the unit will not immediately switch over when light changes, there is a 20 second timer/delay to make sure that it is truly night or truly dawn (not say a flashlight shone at the unit, or a passing cloud). This way in the transition to dawn/night the switch does not "flicker" on and off. I would definitely recommend this, and in fact I just ordered a second one....works great.

Great for Outdoor Lights
QUALITY - 5 STARS I have had one of these Woods photocell timers in continuous use for a little under a year, and it has yet to malfunction. I use mine for a timer on submerged lights around a dock. The location is covered by a roof, but without any walls, the rain frequently blows in onto the dock, so the timer is occasionally exposed to moisture. I leave these lights in continuous service year round, and I have been impressed that the timer has functioned flawlessly so far. FUNCTION 4.5 STARS There are slight downsides to the photocell style timer versus a traditional timer, but for my intended purpose I much prefer this photocell style. One small downside is that it will occasionally come on during heavy cloud cover and rain. If this happens, then either sufficient sunlight has to reset the photocell, or the timer has to be manually turned off and back on, in order for the timer to function that night. Furthermore, the timer has choices of "On", "Dusk till Dawn", 4 hours, 6 hours, and 8 hours. The "on" function obviously negates the need for a timer at all, as whatever is plugged in is on all the time. The other choices determine the amount of time that the timer will stay on once the photocell initially trips the switch to on. These choices aren't quite as flexible as a typical timer switch would be, but for my purposes I much prefer the photocell function. I obviously only want the switch to be on at night, and the photocell keeps me from having to adjust the times set on the timer throughout the year as sunset time changes.

Cheap and works exactly as advertised
Didn't write a review right away as I saw some had complained about consistent operation and I wanted to check it out first. I note that the number one reason given by people writing one-star reviews is something to the effect of "didn't work," but I suspect most of them did not actually give the product a fair try. I say that because if you simply plug it in and cover the optical sensor expecting it to immediately turn on, it won't and you might think the unit is defective. But in reality, it could not turn on immediately because unlike a regular photocell such as a entrance light, this thing also has to start counting down a timer. If you think about it, before it can start the timer it has to know that it is actually dark, and not just seeming to be dark because perhaps a tree blocked the setting sun for a moment. So it pauses for a moment (actually about 20 seconds) before the unit switches on and starts the timer, which is exactly how it should be. On the other hand I also see some poor reviews for units that stopped working weeks or months later and it's more difficult to mark those up to poor understanding of operation; if mine dies I'll update this review. Meanwhile, activates my 120-watt (!) bug light at sundown and turns it off four hours later. Cheap, delivered quickly, and works: five stars.
