I bought this for my 3 year old for Christmas. Out of all his toys, motor cars and trucks included, this was definitely his favorite toy. He loves his ABC's and this toy only furthers his love for the alphabet. He has learned the difference between upper and lower case and he will use the letters to spell out words he hears or sees. Not to mention that every single letter has a picture beneath it to coordinate with the letter. The construction is wonderful. The wood pieces are sturdy and hold up to lots of playtime. We have many Melissa and Doug toys and will continue to purchase them. They are not only great from a learning aspect, but also are made with great quality and care.

I bought this for my special needs classroom and the students love it! There are several ways you can play with this puzzle as an educational toy. Ask child to name the pictures for each letter, choose a letter and ask child to find the picture of ... to put it there, what sound does each letter make, find the capital letter ... or small case letter..., and other ways to play with this too. The capitol letter and lower case letters are the same color as each other, so that helps when a few of the letters look like another letter upside down or right side up.

My son loves all his Melissa and Doug puzzles, this puzzle is his current favorite as it has both upper case and lower case letters. He also loves using it to make words with repeating letters.

Love this well-crafted, brightly colored puzzle! I love it because it was one of the very few wooden alphabet puzzles that also contains lower-case letters! Also has pictures painted underneath the letters of an object that starts with that letter. Very clever. I know my 2-year-old granddaughter will love it!

27 mo old loves the alphabet and this puzzle. The downside is that the pieces are a little small - there is a "warning not for children under 3 years" on there. But developmentally this is an appropriate toy for a child who recognizes all their capital letters and is learning lower case, so we just supervise play with it. Or for a child learning to recognize any letters, but you'll have to be more involved. The letters are the same color (as in both A and a are red) so I think that helps reinforce that they are the same letter. We can practice letter sounds as she puts the pieces in. That's nice. Plus, there are pics of words that start with each letter under the letter so that is nice! The lower case n and u are slight different which makes it easier for me to know which goes where, but not different enough for my 2 yo to understand. Takes a lot of time to complete for someone learning letters / keeps her busy. Overall is one or the favorite Christmas presents and I think there are hours of learning ahead.

Perfect! This is easy to use to teach my children with big and small letters. Its practical and simple. Make more of this kind. I wish they will make the same kind in shapes and colors. When you're teaching your kids with shapes and colors you don't want them to get confused so your toll must be very practical and simple especially if you're working with children with disability.

As a family, we love to support companies who produce sustainable products with meaning. Melissa & Doug is always at the top of our list for children's toys. We ordered this puzzle for our 4 year old daughter. She has been working on letter recognition but cannot grasp the concept of capital and lowercase letters. She loves hands on activities and puzzles so this was a great solution. The puzzle is very easy to put together so children shouldnt have any issues. The main benefit from this is seeing the capital letter paired with the lowercase. Being the same color and being placed beside each other help the child to remember the two forms as a set. This is such a great learning tool. It's also an added bonus that behind the letters, there are pictures that start with that letter. The quality is amazing. It's a nice, sturdy wooden puzzle that wont be destroyed in a younger sibling decides to chew on it and it cannot be folded or ripped in half.

My 2yo granddaughter loves puzzles and loves her letters, so this was a no-brainer for me. I worked it with her today. She says every letter and this puzzle, having both upper and lower case letters, is double the fun for her. One thing: the small b and p (as well as the d and q) look like each other upside down. But, as they color-match with their adjacent upper case counterparts, not only is this not a problem, but it's an added bonus to the puzzle. Her mother told that, when they opened the box from Amazon and little Madeleine saw this puzzle, her face lit up and she does it tirelessly. That is review enough for me!

My son likes this a lot and it's been helping him learn the alphabet. The small letter "i" isn't very clear and looks like a small "L" so I had to take a sharpie and outline the "i" with the dot but not he understands the difference.

I would give this one six stars if I could. My girl's 20 mo's, and in the 2 months we've been playing with this alphabet she's learned an amazing amount. Plus, she LOVES it. She only knows a few of the letters by their actual names, but when she picks up almost every letter here she can state the picture associated with it. So, 'I' isn't 'I,' but "ice cubes," and W is 'watch,' etc. She's never even seen a jellybean, but she screams "jellybean!" when she grabs the J. Awesome. It's a great challenge for her little fingers too - her dexterity has improved from initially just slapping the letters down in the approximate region of where they belonged, to lots of twisting and turning to slot each one and now, finally, she can place them correctly about half the time. I love that the letters that could be symmetric, like the Z, aren't, and that the u and n are the same color - it's more interesting this way! Yes, the pictures underneath the letters are unusual... and I'd much rather use this opportunity to teach her what a quail is than have her know only the ubiquitous 'Queen' as her Q-word. I only gave three stars for durability because the letters are not appropriate for chewing upon. They're quite substantial dry, but need to be kept out of little mouths. Just another reason to play with this one together at first. Update. A few years later, we love it as much as before. Whatever letters were chewed upon show some wear, but the rest of the set still looks great.
