Seriously great little CB...with some bigger CB functions. LIKES: - Small/compact. I use this in the center console of my '14 Silverado. Works great! - RF gain control. Didn't think I would use/need this...boy was I wrong. In a noisy washed out environment...comes in handy - No beep-beep-beep crap unlike the big Uniden I have. No sounds when switching between channels or pushing buttons - PA output and switch. Absolute kickass fun scaring dogs, deer, cats, kids, or broadcasting something funny with a horn speaker - Microphone. Looks cheap and flimsy. DON'T go out and replace it. This mic is really good and works well. I had a noise canx mic...this one works better. - Speaker output - I USE THE MOST. Go get you a small high quality CB ext speaker at a truck stop...and plug it in. DISLIKES - Might be "too compact" for folks with big fingers. - Old school LED display is hard to see in the daylight...excellent at night tho. - Speaker power out could be a bit better with some type of tone control - Wx function would have been nice OVERALL - Tuned VSR to 1:1 with my Firestik antenna on my pickup. Used high quality coax. CB system is 100% good. Talk is strong, Rx is excellent. Lots of good stuff in such a small package. Buy it.

Outstanding compact CB radio. Strong reception and transmission, now that everything is setup properly and the antenna is tuned. Here are our details for this installation on our 2005 Jeep Wrangler: Uniden PRO520XL mounted at the bottom-left of the kick panel on the front passenger's side. Used the supplied mount but tossed the supplied screws as they were flat-nosed and next to impossible to get started (even with a small drilled starter hole). Picked two similarly sized/threaded flat-head wood screws from our tool box, and they did the trick. See pictures. FireStik FSII four foot tunable antenna mounted on the rear passengers-side taillight using an FSM Design mount (FSM Jeep Antenna Mount) and a FireStik K-4A stud (Firestik K-4A Stud). Connected the radio to the antenna with an Astatic nine foot RG-8X coaxial cable (Astatic 9-Ft Rg8x Coaxial Cable) with PL-259 connector ends. Crystal clear transmission and reception, with the ANL (noise limiter) switched on. Originally used a RG-58A/U coaxial cable but there was way too much noise; cable deemed defective, or maybe just not right for our Jeep, but the RG-8X cable works quite well. Tuned the FireStik FSII antenna (FireStik FSII) with the help of an Astatic PDC7 SWR Meter (CB / Ham Radio SWR / RF Meter Astatic PDC7). Easy to tune and provided fantastic results. The mic, though seemingly somewhat light and small feeling, is hot! It really does a great job. Mounted the mic holder on the ashtray blank... that turned out to be the perfect place for the holder as it is easy to reach but the mic does not get in the way of shifting. Installed the mic holder sideways instead of vertical, so I slide the mic from right to left into the holder for storage. Works just fine this way; holds the mic nicely in place. As with the CB mount, I tossed the supplied screws (again, flat-nose) and found two similarly sized/threaded flat-head wood screws in our tool box. Drilled small starter holes and that did the trick. The size of this compact Uniden radio is exactly what we needed to use inside the fairly small cabin of the Jeep. Additionally, the Squelch, RF Gain and ANL features work surprisingly well. Bottom line: I really like this radio and am very happy with its performance and compatibility with the other gear in the rig, as described above. Now that the radio has proven itself and I have decided it's a keeper, I am off to purchase two additional accessories: .... (1) a PA speaker, so I can share a few choice words with the bozos that are texting and driving .... (2) an internal speaker to boost the radio's sound a bit -- hey, soft top Jeeps ain't quiet, ya know... This radio has ports on the back for both of these add-ons, so why not! Would purchase this radio again, if needed.

This is a good radio and has the basic functions you need in a CB. I have it connected to a 3-foot magnetic antenna on my trunk, and I've been using it for about four years now. What I really like is the small form factor. I attached this to the right side of the center console, just left of the legs of someone sitting in the passenger seat. It's easy to reach from the driver's seat, but is unobtrusive at the same time. You don't need a bunch of fancy features in a CB. You need basically what this comes with: volume, squelch, channel selection. This comes with RF gain, which is nice too. Yes, the channel knob is a little loose, but the speak sounds fine and people seem to understand what I say in the mic. And the price is unbeatable.

I contemplated on this CB for months. I couldn't decide if i wanted a full size CB for the features or save space and weight and sacrifice. Turns out, this little radio kicks some serious butt. I really got the best of both worlds. It doesn't have a few features like roger beep or Noise Blanker or the built in SWR meter but it does have ANL that seems to work excellent. I thought that i would get a noise cancelling mic but the little mic that comes with it is truly a nice one as i get many "loud and clears" when talking to others. I wired it up using a cigarette lighter plug, which isn't the most ideal power source, but i get very low noise and i like the convenience. I'm currently using this radio with a Wilson Lil Wil magnetic antenna and I'm getting SWR's just a tad over 1 to 1. Overall, I didn't have to sacrifice at all. This radio has all the features that i would need for backwoods communication and i even saved a little money in the process. Highly recommend.

I originally was looking for the 510xl, but found this model at a lower cost. The only difference being there's a gain adjustment on this model. It does what it's supposed to do and I have no complaints. I find that I do like having the gain as I can turn it almost all the way up and then adjust the squelch. This allows for further reception from what I'm told. Since I only use it when off-roading, my use is limited to maybe a couple of miles distance :-). The compact size also allows me to slide it into my door pocket or any small cubby in my Jeep as I don't have any permanent mounts for my CB gear or antenna at this time. Until I do, I changed added a 12v power plug to the power cable to keep it temporary.

I added a PA speaker and noticed 2 things. 1. When the switch is on PA it will send all CB transmissions out to the PA speaker, my solution is to turn the squelch all the way up to prevent unwanted sound coming out of the PA. 2. The CB to PA switch itself acts up. Sometimes I have to wiggle it in order to use the PA speaker. Not a big deal considering the overall price of the unit. I can still yell at people in traffic.

I was very surprised when I install this in my wife jeep. Very easy to place almost anywhere in your vehicle. We placed it on the glove box. And it was still out of the way. Very powerful. You can pick up even farther out with the RF knob that comes with it. We have a hustler white antenna with it. Tuned it with an srw or SWR meter. This thing works so well it's better than my bigger CB in my big truck. I'm thinking of picking up another one of these to put in my pickup truck. Again very impressed. Plan on buying another one.

My second CB radio. I must say for what I use it for it is perfect. It is loud and Clear with a tuned Antenna like my MOST highly recommended Firestick. Very easy to use, Is very small and compact, Easy install and Setup. You can be up and running quickly with this device. It was purchased as my backup CB for my Jeep but instantly became my primary while off road. You want small, loud, clear and economical????? BUY THIS

You will read that there is an issue with the speaker not being loud enough. The fact is that this CB is really small. The mic in the picture that comes with it is really small too which makes the CB seam bigger. With a speaker that will fit in the housing, it has to be small. If the bottom, where the speaker is located is not blocked, it helps. Unless you want a expensive galaxy or something, this CB is okay. The small size is nice and it's not complicated. If I'm talking to someone in the range of about 2.5 miles, the sound is pretty clear.

I've owned about 5 of these things and I always leave them in the truck I'm selling. So, I've had my current truck awhile but I'm installing these PRO520XL in it this coming weekend. Only complaint is, for it's compact size, which allows all kinds of places to install it in, I know there's room inside the unit itself to add Weather Channels (NOAA) I'm sticking with this radio because of the price #1...#2 it's always performed as advertised with no problems at all. Transmitting distance, with a CB Radio, ANY CB Radio depends on a multitude of things like, mountains, windy roads, elevation ("skip" is fun when you're on the top of an especially big/tall mountain, especially when it's the flat desert for hundred's+ of miles on the other side...Talked to MANY MANY folks from all over the SE, East, NE and I especially like "conversing" the Louisiana/Georgia area States. Man, those guys have accents that just won't quit and especially unique stories to tell...Like a different world over there and I want to visit it before I'm dead and gone and you just gotta love it! Thanks Uniden for keeping me posted while driving, and at home too! And, almost around the world. I started CB'n back in my late teens (16 once I got a license to drive...) and because I've used my CB in many occasons o an emergency, for usually less than $100, you can fire a CB up in your vehicle, talk to the truckers on your trip and just have peace of mind. You might think you're OK with just your cell phone...Uhmmmmm, ever been driving in areas where there is no cell signal, basically a NO CELL ZONE??? I rescued a family of 5 in a NO CELL ZONE in the mountains at 11pm. Car just stopped and it was about 40 degrees outside. Parents had 3 kids ranging from 7-12. Couldn't use my Verizon Cell so I fired up my Uniden PRO520XL and after a few minutes, I finally picked up a guy who lived in Georgia. The State of GEORGIA! I was just outside of Bend, OR, just a couple THOUSAND miles away rom the guy who answered my "May Day" Call...GEORGIA!!! Had a good clear signal so he took my info of where we were, approx. how many miles we were up on a specific mountain road and gave him my cell number too. What he did was call the local Bend, OR sheriffs' office, about 30 miles away from where "The Family" and we were. The police then relayed the message to a AAA towing company located in Bend, and within a little over an hour, up the road a AAA Towing Truck finally came! Family Saved!...We were there for about 2+ hours total, but it was great to be able to help this family. Literally, the "Dad" told me he was going to go buy a CB for his SUV and one for his motor home too as soon as he gets back home to Portland. Not only are CB's great in emergency's like this (Cheap insurance against a possible tragedy...) they're fun too. I also use mine when caravanning with a few of my friends who have CB's while driving together on our way to a camping or fishing destination. Easily coordinate Pee breaks! And, they're just plain fun, convenient too and you get quality at an affordable cost. PLUS, they're very very easy to install! Ken J. Nehalem, OR.
