I picked this up because I was simply looking for something better than the manual sharpeners, it's amazing. It actually sharpened my butcher knife so much that it cut through my hoodie when I reflexively wiped it on my side after a rinse while cooking. I've had that exactly knife for 10 years, and when it was brand new it wasn't that sharp, hence my development of such a lax behavior with it. You should most certainly purchase this, you should also most certainly be aware of the instructions, as well as the fact that this thing doesn't just do "a good job", it does an incredible job and you should be careful with your knives after sharpening them if you're accustomed to dull-ish blades.

Wow! I have owned a whetstone for years, but never quite gotten the hang of sharpening my knives on it (I'm so terrified of screwing up the blade). A whetstone takes more time, creates more mess, & is a challenge to use when there are little ones in the kitchen, eager to help/interfere. I am so glad I purchased this! It's fast, fool-proof, & made my knives waaaaaaaaay sharper than any whetstone. What's best, they have kept their edge far longer than I expected. I think this has made using knives much safer for me (I have not cut myself with a knife once since purchasing this; I used to do so regularly enough that I keep bandaids in one of my kitchen drawers. A sharp blade is safer than a dull blade!). I really cannot recommend enough. The only "downsides" (if you can even call them that) are that it does take up more space than a whetstone (so I store it on a garage shelf--I only need to use it every 5 months or so) & that it makes a rather unpleasant sound when used (duh, you're scraping metal!), so my kids run out of the room while I do it. But hey, the sound doesn't last long & wow, does it sharpen my knives well!

I have a set of good knives that we got for a wedding gift 20 years ago. We have used them daily for all those years. I had never once sharpened them. I was going to pitch them and buy new but decided to try this sharpener first. Was skeptical after reading some mixed reviews. This sharpener is great. Just read and follow the directions. They are very short and easy to follow. My knives had deep nicks and were very dull. They could barely cut through the skin of a tomato. I was able to sharpen all 7 knives in under 15 minutes and they are like new. I cut a tomato today and I could hardly believe how sharp the knife was. Even if the machine doesn't last it was worth the price for one sharpening! But, it seems well made. I think it will last quite some time.

My arthritis makes sharpening my knives manually pretty painful. I make cooking videos so I use my knives a lot. I decided to invest in an electric sharpener, but I didn't expect a lot considering my price range. I did some research and saw that this little machine is often rated in the top 10, and at this price point, that surprised me, so I decided to go with it. Well, let me tell you, that was a good investment. I read all the directions, practiced on a knife that had not been sharpened for 2 years and was so dull it wouldn't cut paper, just made a dent. It took several times running it through both sides of sharpening and then honing, but wow. You could shave with it now. Makes a clean cut on paper and cuts a tomato or onion almost paper thin with no tearing. One of my viewers reported that she has been using an identical one for 5 years with no loss of sharpening quality. Would I recommend? Unless you want to spend $200 for the best ever with diamond blades, this is your new best friend. Yes, yes, yes.

I was a little skeptical that I would be getting a descent knife sharpener for under $25 dollars but after sharpening 5 kitchen knives and a meat cleaver I have to say that I am really impressed. This sharpener put a really nice edge on my knives and it took only a few seconds to sharpen each knife. Now I can get rid of my sharpening stone and save lots of time and potential injury of sharpening with the stone. In the instructions it says that the sharpener will slow down or stop if too much presser is applied to the blade while sharpening. This is intended to be a safety feature and does not mean that the sharpener is defective. i had it slow down on me a couple of times but after I practiced my technique I didn't have any more issues. In the instructions it warns to be careful that you don't cut the power cord while sharpening the knife and I concur. The power cord is just in front of the #2 set of sharpening stones and I can see that it would be easy to draw the edge of the knife over the power cord. I think that it is a design flaw that would be easy for the manufacturer to correct by moving the power cord to the side of the sharpener. I would definitely not recommend that you let children use this sharpener. Other than that I do not have any issues with this sharpener and would recommend it.

Why did I wait so long to get an electric knife sharpener? I have no idea. I only wish I had done it sooner. Many years ago I indulgently bought my wife a full set of very nice, very sharp, kitchen knives. Over the year, live has taken a toll on the blades. I occasionally honed the knives on the handheld honer (is that a word?) that came in the block with the knives. What I didn't know is that it was not actually sharpening them. It is intended to kind of reinforce the sharp edge before every use. Needless to say, our knives have been essentially useless for quite some time. It was so bad it almost didn't matter which side of the blade you used to attempt to slice your food, because neither side worked. I finally bought this as a last ditch effort before buying a new knife set. I am extremely happy with the edge this device has put on our knives. It's like they are brand new again! Some of our knives had been badly abused by our kids, being used to pry things open, or used to cut things other than food, and those particular blades took a extra time in the sharpener to get a nice edge on them. But, I was able to put an almost scary edge on all of our knives! I highly recommend this little (and it is smaller than the pictures implied) tool.

I was going to just buy a new 7" Henckels Santoku knife because I had used mine and sharpened it with cheap gadgets for years and it had finally given out on me. It couldn't slice through a tomato no matter what I did. For some reason I decided to look for an electric sharpener instead and came across this one and read the reviews and was convinced to at least try it and I'm glad I did. This is a legit sharpener that doesn't mess around, I took my knife through the entire process twice and now it slices through paper like it's air. I had forgotten how easily and thinly you should be able to slice garlic cloves! My knife is an absolute dream again! I did notice like another reviewer said that it scratched my knife, but I'll just be a little more careful during the next sharpening to try and hold it steadier. My knives are work horses, not show ponies, so I'm not too troubled by it, but it is something to be aware of if you're the type to display your knives. The one thing that I would warn on is that I have found it easy to forget how unbelievably sharp the knife is again and have nicked myself a couple of times. Be careful!

This is the best sharpener that I have ever used. Very easy to use too! I sharpened all 14 of my kitchen knives with this in about 15 minutes. My knives range between good quality steel and poorer quality steel. The poorer quality knives sharpened easiest as the steel is softer. The high carbon steel knives sharpened the slowest due to the harder steel. But, all of the knives are very very sharp and delightful to use now. I need to say that at the start of the sharpening they were all very dull and disgusting. One of my favorite 3.5" knives is an old boning knife that I love to use as a paring knife. It just fits my hand so well and I have good control of it. It is a cheaper knife with softer steel and always needed to be sharpened about once a week. But to my amazement the edge that this little sharpener put on it has lasted now for a couple of weeks and is still as sharp as when I finished with it. I may come back and add to this review later, if I remember, to tell how long this edge lasted. I was so ecstatic that this edge has held up so perfectly after a few dozen uses that I just had to tell everyone about it. This is money well spent and Amazon's price was very good and the shipping was very prompt even though I no longer am paying for Prime as they raised the price too high and the delivery drivers with Prime always drove up in unmarked vans with drivers who had no uniforms. I was constantly thinking some stranger was coming to the door.

I was hesitant to purchase something so large just to occasionally sharpen knives. It generally bugs me to have a big "uni-tasker" taking up space in my cabinet when I could do the same thing with a sharpening stone and such. However the trick is I have no freaking clue how to sharpen a knife with those things, so I was looking for something that was relatively idiot proof. I chose this model over the others based on the name brand I had heard of and the generally positive reviews. The body is made of plastic but generally feels sturdy. I haven't noticed it sliding around or binding up when I use it. Sharpening the knives is easily... just draw the knife across each of the openings a few times, in turn, and there's an immediate noticeable difference in the way they cut. A few folks have mentioned in their reviews that it "grabbed" the knives but I have not experienced it. I think the key is not to force the knives down... if you have decent quality knives, their weight alone will be enough pressure to make them sharpen correctly. This is basically a grinder, so you should expect some noise from the unit as the stones grind against the metal of the knives, but it was not anything tremendously loud. Also as a result of the grinding you will notice a bit of metal dust, I guess technically filings, on the knives when you're done. A simple wipe down or even rinse should clear that right up.

I've had a two stage manual sharpener for years that seemed to stop being able to sharpen my knives, so I decided to go more commercial strength with this replacement. It works great. Resharpened my nice kitchen knives as well as the last time I had them sharpened at the hardware store. And for the same price as one trip to the store, I have one I can use for years, hopefully. It's easy enough to use, but there is something to the technique. I suggest starting with knives that aren't your favorite while you get the knack, but the ones I started with did fine. You are just sharpening your own knives at home with an a real spinning grinder, so you should be confortable with that idea. The guides are fine for making it pretty easy. It's nice enough looking to leave on the counter. I am very happy with this purchase, and I paid full price. I just liked it enough to want to do a review.
