Easy to use, and gets rid of the weeds. There is the danger element, and I have to steer clear of the weeds near the foundation of the house, but on my pavers, it is way easier (and more effective) than pulling, and I am happy to not have to use insecticide. As others have noted, you can use the propane at Walmart, though I found that the Bernzomatic canisters are roughly the same price at Home Depot. Which I'm glad of, since I kind of loathe Walmart.

Works well. Note that if your propane cylinder is less than half full, the torch will flame out after about 5 minutes of use, even though you still have propane in the cylinder. This torch uses a lot of gas, and when propane vaporizes, it makes the remaining liquid propane colder, which reduces the rate at which the propane can vaporize, ultimately causing the flame out. You'll notice the cylinder itself is cold to the touch after a flame out. Once the cylinder warms up, you get another 5 minutes or so of use. As the cylinder empties, the interval you can use it will become shorter. The torch works better with 1 lb squat cylinders, rather than the 14.1 oz slim variety, simply because there's more liquid propane there to lose heat vaporizing propane for burning.

wow! I wish I had found this device a long time ago. I rarely write reviews but this thing is a huge improvement over other methods - chemicals or manual removal. Simple, lightweight and easy to use in my flower garden where I do not have much space in between plants. I am glad I purchased this size because of that. Other units on the market are bigger and would make quicker work for ditches, fence lines, etc. but would not work well in tighter quarters such as a flower bed or vegetable garden. I also have a deck and walkway made with pavers that need continuous weeding. This device does well there also. If you need help with weed control, this is your tool.

this thing in awesome! I relied heavily on herbicides to get many of my weeds under control. This greatly reduced my need to spray. Granted, many weeds do come back, especially perennials with big tap roots. But, it puts a hurting on them, and after a few burn downs, they eventually die. Not to mention the benefit of reduced back pains from not having to bend over to pull up as many weeds! This thing is so lightweight! I use Coleman brand propane tanks that are designed for their portable stoves, and they work perfectly and are very lightweight. My only real complaint is that the ignition switch is halfway down the shaft. I'd expect it to be up at the handle, like where the control valve is. That is a strange design error. But, other than that, I love this thing and strongly recommend it!

I bought this to replace a cheap home improvement store model that malfunctioned. The Bernzomatic is a big improvement in that it has an easy-to-use ignition switch, meaning no annoying scrambling around with matches when the flame goes out (which was a frequent occurrence with the previous cheapie model). I use this burner to exterminate patio and pathway weeds. It does an efficient job, propane works out to be cheaper than herbicides, and there's something satisfying about seeing annoying weeds scorch, shrivel and go up in smoke.

I love this thing. I used the sprays, you have to wait till it is dead, then clean the straw away. No more. Torch it to ashes, and it blows away. (Near) instant gratification. It's almost therapeutic. I just stroll out maybe one evening when it gets cooler (in Florida) and walk my patio and paths and driveway torching any unwanted strays.. Less chemical to makes its way to the pond in the woods behind me, and it is quick and tidy... There are some with bigger heads for torching large areas prior to sodding but I don't need that... (and I would likely spray that with the dreaded glycophosphate.) Nice because I don't just want a nice yard, it has to nicer than <-and ->.

I use this to weed 1200X4 foot rows of raspberries...you can tell the weeds you hit and if you keep at it, very effective for my organic crop. Not too good with thistle or goldenrod, but it does slow them down. Splurge and get the fitting to refill the 1 pound tanks from a 20 pound tank. What you save makes up for the cost of all those 1 pound bottles

Works great. One suggestion I have is, only use Bernzomatic cylinders. I have tried other brands and found them to be inferior with the quality of propane in the cylinder. They weigh the same but you'll find that they do not burn as well as the Bernzomatic cylinders. I have put 12 cylinders through this torch so far. One thing I noticed is that as the propane is near depletion the torch will not stay lit. This is not a problem with the torch but rather with the amount of gas needed to keep it from going out.

Bought one of these for home use because we installed a few walkways and I wanted to use it to clear the cracks. This is fantastic! So easy to use and lightweight. Pop it out of the box, screw on a propane cylinder (I have used 3 different kinds and they all fit perfectly - not sure why there are reviews indicating problems fitting cylinders on!), turn on the gas flow and click the lighter. Success the very first time. If it stopped, I unscrewed the cylinder and screwed it back on (to relieve any vacuum) and it was fine. This did not happen every often and only on a cylinder that was partly full. Lasts for hours on one little propane cylinder. Loved this so much I bought one for my parents. Reasonable price for a useful garden tool.

I've had this for several months now and I love it. This is why: 1) It is better than using chemicals. If you read round-up, in order for it to work it has to be applied when the weather is a certain temperature, no wind, and no rain for 24hrs. Add to that that it all has to happen on one of my days off, and quite frankly I have better odds of winning the lottery. I wouldn't use it during a high wind, but other than that, I have been able to use it whenever I wanted. Also, I think it works better than chemicals because it provides better weed control. I removed three large sections of lawn; one section I did weed control with chemicals, one section I used the torch, and on the third section I did nothing. The section with chemical spray looked hardly different from the section that I did nothing, but the section that I torched was almost weed free. There were some weeds that didn't die, and there were some others that sprouted later, but that's the nature of weeds. I just went over them with the torch again. The section of my yard that I used the torch for was far and away the easiest and least-weedy patch of ground. 2) I also like that the torch burns things like dead leaves as well as green weeds. I have a lot of rock and gravel and this made cleanup easier 3) I don't have to bend over to pull weeds and I don't get hand cramps pumping the weed-killer bottle. This was so much easier and faster! 4) Some of the reviews complained about the flame going out easily. Although this did happen to me occasionally, it was always because the propane in the tank was getting too low. When I changed the bottle this problem stopped. Also realize that the hole to the mouth of the tube is little, so it can get suffocated more easily. Cons: 1) There aren't a lot. Right now I feel that the tank is too little, but that is just because I am using it so much. I am in the middle of a large re-landscaping project, so I am using the torch A LOT and am running through tanks quickly. I deliberately chose the small model because I wanted to be able to use the torch around my flower beds. I think that it will be perfect once I get my garden established, but for now I am considering getting the adapter that allows you to use the large propane tanks. I highly recommend this product.
