I'm seeing a lot of complaint on this thermometer because it does not ship calibrated. This is so easy to calibrate, tools needed, small pot to boil water, small wrench that fits the hex nut under the face or a pair of pliers. Boil the water in the pot you want a hard boil not just a few small bubbles, then hold the pointy end of the thermometer into the boiling water, once the temperature indicator stops moving use the small wrench or pliers to turn the small hex shaped piece under the face until the temperature indicator is pointing at 'Boil Test' on the face. Easy. This thing works great once that's done.

I bought the CDN IRM200 ProAccurate Meat/Poultry Oven Thermometer with the Extra Large Glow-in-the-Dark Dial. This has a large, easy to read dial that even I can see with my visually impaired eyes (I'm nowhere near blind - just need increasing prescriptions each year for my vision). It seems very sturdy and well-made, and I like that it's ovenproof and dishwasher safe. This is the type of thermometer that can be left in the meat while cooking, which I prefer, as opposed to the instant read type that can not be left in the oven. It can also be put on a shelf of the oven, rather than in meat, to check if your oven is heating to the correct temperature as well (not to be used under the broiler, though). An important feature is the small hex nut on the back so it can be calibrated for accuracy, so you'll know it's reading correctly. I only just recently learned about calibrating thermometers, and it took me at least 10 tries before I got it right. I found it helpful to move the outside temperature target indicator dial to where it says "boil test" on the thermometer and use it as a visual when turning the nut left or right. I immersed the tip of the thermometer about an inch or two in a pot of boiling water using tongs (be careful not to touch the bottom or sides) and if it went over the boil test I adjusted the hex nut to the right or clockwise, if it went too low I adjusted the nut to the left or counterclockwise. These are miniscule turns, turn it too much and it will go too far. Overall, a great buy!

Time of ownership: One year and three months. I have had many meat thermometers before, and they all broke. I especially recommend against most inexpensive digital ones because they electrical circuits are quite fragile and easily break, and they are never dishwasher safe. This is the only one that has lasted me over a year. It is hard to find a thermometer that says it is dishwasher safe. Additional features are that it is large with relatively easy-to-read numbers and it can be re-calibrated using a boil test. I have used on average once weekly, and it has served me well.

I always rely on thermometers and this is the best one I've used by far! *Large, glow-in-the-dark dial that makes it easy to see in the oven *Long spike for reading *You can move the outer black marking to the food you are cooking so it is easy to see when the food is at the right temperature. *Don't forget to calibrate with a simple boil test before using. And it is great to be able to recalibrate to always make sure your temperature reading is correct. Highly recommended! I hope that you have found my opinion to be helpful with your decision process to purchase this item. If this is the case, and where Amazon asks if this review helpful, please click "yes".

I really like this thermometer! The temperatures and dial really stand out and are much more readable than our old meat thermometers. First, it passed the "boil" test; it was spot on. Next, we used it on a roast and pulled it out at 142 degrees; the meat came medium-rare, just as we wanted it. It appears accurate! As a result, we threw out the old thermometers out, which gave us some more room in our drawer. Life is good and the Universe is now in balance!

I ruined my last meat thermometer because I didn't notice that it was not made to be left in the meat while roasting, so it melted. This one is very durable, and it "reads" so much faster than the two digital thermometers I got at the grocery store--and big enough to easily see too. Also, the point is very sharp and goes right into the meat easily with no pushing. I love it.

I have a digital thermometer, but I wanted something cheap that I could leave in the turkey while it cooked. After reading the reviews on this one, I expected that I would have to do a boil test and calibrate it. Mine was accurate out of the box! I’ve posted a photo showing the boil test results, which is showing 204F (which is correct for my elevation in Colorado). I used this for my turkey, and it served my purposes perfectly. The dial is large and easy to read, and there is a little piece that you can slide to the temperature you want. That way, you can quickly see if the needle has is at the temperature you want, without actually having to read the dial. Additionally, if you do need to calibrate it, the mechanism for it looks simple. There is a hex dial on the back that you simply rotate, which allows you to correct the reading of your boil test. After that, it’ll be accurate.

I have used many different types of meat thermometers. This is inexpensive, easy to read, accurate, and oven safe. It arrived quickly. The package does recommend that you boil test for accuracy. Mine was perfect upon arrival. Just used it for the first time on a roast. The meat was perfectly cooked, juicy. This is easy to clean. The only issue I could see with it was that it did steam a little on the inside of the glass but that's in no way a dealbreaker for me. I would recommend.

Purchased this in 2016 on Amazon. Used it a few times and never gave it much thought. Been living in Florida since August and purchased a Kamado Joe also on Amazon. I unpacked it and used it outdoors. It has been out there in the rain,Sun and humidity until I lent it to my neighbor for Thanksgiving. I decided today just to purchase another one and let my neighbor have the original one. Really like it and very easy to read. Works great.

We used this thermometer to cook the turkey and it was perfect. It stays in the oven in the bird thickest part of breast (for an accurate reading it must NOT touch the bone). It indicates the perfect cooking for various kind of meats and you can read the temperature even door closed as it shines in the dark. Mechanical, not toxic, I like it. Price is right too.
