Got what I wanted
I'm in the process of completing my Nancy Drew PC Games collection (nearly there). I wanted Danger on Deception Island for a long time especially since I've never actually played the game for more than twenty minutes when my friend had it. So I thought a three dollar price tag was a bit off and I expected it to be damaged, used, or something crazy like that. But no. The game came today, and I just ordered it Friday afternoon. The company even gave me RUSH processing so the game could get here even faster. Wish the other things I ordered had RUSH processing as well! When I opened the package, I was a bit surprised as well. It wasn't ONLY a Nancy Drew game. It was brand new (still had the plastic on it) and contained three separate games! Now, I probably will try the other games, but won't play them much. I just wanted the Nancy Drew game. Each game have their own discs so you won't be burdened with the other games if you don't like them, you can just give them away. I got what I wanted for a VERY good price considering the game was twenty when it first came out.

Deception Island
This is one of the best Nancy Drew games I have played. I enjoyed the challenging games within the story. It was fun to drive the sailboat, dive for treasure and play with the monkeys. I would love to find a Nancy Drew Mystery Game that lasted longer than 6-8 hours.

As expected, and works well.
My FAVORITE Nancy Drew game :)

Definitely One of the Best!
As other reviewers have mentioned, Deception Island is one of the best games that I have played so far in the series (I've played a little over half at this point). The characters were interesting, and most had pretty good depth. I was a little disappointed by Andy Jason, as I thought his character could have done with a little more development. All of the puzzles were fun, interesting, necessary for completing missions, and, most importantly, NOT IMPOSSIBLE! I feel so weak when I have to find walkthroughs for these games, and I was very pleased to not need one for Deception Island! The graphics are pretty good for its time of release. Transportation was a little lack-luster for me. I got excited to actually ride on the road with the bike, and I was pretty disappointed to see that "biking" was just clicking on the destination and watching Nancy's location on a map. Kayaking was slightly better, but I wasn't very fond of getting around via water either. It was too disjointed and confusing to begin, and it was really only toward the end of the game that I started to be able to really get myself around. Despite the few negative points listed, Deception Island is a terrific game. I was especially impressed with the plot line. If you're a fan of truly not knowing who the culprit is until the VERY end, this game is DEFINITELY for you! I would highly recommend this as a great starter game to someone who's new to Nancy Drew computer games. Be warned that you'll definitely want some paper and a pencil handy for this one -- some of the puzzles in one location will need lots of information from another.

Perfect for anyone looking for a mystery!
Product is awesome for my 9 year old daughter. She has really remained challenged, but not overwhelmed with the mystery to be solved. Having a junior and senior level allows flexibility so that different age ranges can play and not become bored. What a great start to her first computer game as well as her interest in Nancy Drew!

A New ND Favorite!
I had VERY high expectations for this game, and I'm happy to say that it met all of them! It's definitely one of my new favorites! I'm going to split my review up into different sections so I can give the game a more accurate rating. PLOT - 5/5: Nancy is invited to Snake Horse Harbor to go whale watching with Katie Firestone. But when Nancy gets there, she discovers Katie's boat has been vandalized. Somebody in Snake Horse Harbor is up to something illegal, and it's up to Nancy to figure who it is! I thought that the plot was excellent. It was really intriguing and had lots of twists and turns and really kept me on the edge of my seat. The plot was so unique and fun, it's a perfect example of just how awesome Nancy Drew games can be! CHARACTERS - 5/5: There was a good amount of characters in this game, and they all had incriminating evidence against them, so it was practically impossible to guess who the culprit was! There was Katie Firestone, a marine biologist who's nice, but virtually everyone in town hates her. Then there's Holt Scotto, and old school fisherman who's running for political office as Harbormaster. Jenna Dublin, who runs the local cafe and especially hates Katie. Then there's Andy Jason, who owns a whale museum and rivals Katie's whale watching tours. I think Andy was my favorite person to talk to because it was hilarious every time he said "And remember...WHALES RULE!" And, of course, there was the orca herself, who was very cute! SETTING - 5/5: The setting was really well done. I've been to Washington State, and this game captured exactly what the beaches look like there. It was foggy, but very beautiful. Plus, the cafe was friendly feeling and the stained glass was really pretty. The whale museum looked just like a real museum. Everything in this game was so realistic. And the music was really cheerful and nice, and it never got annoying or repetitive, which was great. PUZZLES - 5/5: The puzzles in this game were also wonderful. There was just enough so that you didn't feel like you were doing a puzzle every second, but you still always had something to do. Plus the puzzles were challenging, not so much that you get frustrated and want to quit, but just enough so that they're exciting and fun. That's another thing, the puzzles in this game were actually FUN, and as much as I enjoy this series, I can't say that a lot of the puzzles in the other games are fun. They're challenging, but not very much fun. But I can honestly say that I had a blast playing this game! IS IT CHALLENGING?: Yeah, it's just the right amount of challenge. It was hard, but not so hard that I got frustrated or tired of it. It was really just perfect, I'd give it a 4.5. ENDING - 5/5: The ending was so exciting. Snooping around, I really felt like I was in danger of being caught. Plus there was a big twist at the end in terms of revealing the culprit. I was surprised how scary the culprit got at the end, they just looked so evil! Catching them was fun, it took me a while to figure it out, but once I did I was very pleased. It was a fantastic ending to a fantastic game! FINAL SCORE: Plot: 5 Characters: 5 Setting: 5 Puzzles: 5 Challenge: 4.5 Ending: 5 = 29.5 divided by 6 = 4.9 rounded to 5

Mystery in the pugeot sound- get your kayaking skills ready
Love all the ND mysteries and this one was no exception. I liked the exploring and seaside atmosphere. A good solid mystery. This is one of the older formats- but still enjoyed the game once I got used to these older controls. Played years ago, and still enjoyable. Downloaded fine to Windows 10 from Amazon.

Excellent
I admit I am not usually a Nancy Drew kind of person, but this game was very good. It took me awhile to get use to how to play it, but once I figured it out, it was more enjoyable. The ending was interesting. The puzzles were not too difficult, but not easy either.

Plunge into Peril and Excitement in Danger on Deception Island!!
From canoeing to playing games in a whale-watching headquarters, this well-thought out game had it all. I have played most of the games in the series and was very pleased with this one. It was on my Christmas list and the first one I played, partly because of the intriguing-looking cover. I'm now very glad I chose this one as my first to play, because I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm going to divide this review into sections and rate each particular area how many stars I think it deserves. Setting/Graphics- Okay, the graphics were incredible!! The characters looked genuine, and the beaches were pretty. The water looked amazing: it was just so REAL-looking!! I loved the graphics!! Unfortunately, the setting disappointed me just a little bit because it was dark, gloomy, and foggy on Snake Horse Harbor. I prefer the bright, sunny games to the dark, gloomy ones, but that is okay. It didn't ruin the game, and I suppose that it looked realistic, though depressing. That is the only reason I'm giving the setting/graphics a measly 4 stars. Plot- You don't really know there is one until you start the game. But just moments after you begin, you see that the boat you're staying on has been vandalized!! You learn later in the game that the boat is not the first place to be vandalized or stolen from recently. But why? Your goal is to find out why all these strange accidents are happening, and by who. Nice plot that is a little different from other ND games, I'll rate 5 stars easily. Characters- There are the typical ND amount of characters in this game, plus the usual Bess and George, Frank and Joe Hardy and such. I'll separate the characters and briefly describe each one. Katie Firestone is the young lady whose boat you are staying on. She is really into sea life, but spends most of her time in this game fixing her engine that the culprit tore apart. Katie is not well-liked in the harbor, and often doesn't see eye-to-eye with the other characters, but accepts that fact pretty well This character is a good asset to Deception Island. Jenna Deblin runs the Hot Kettle Cafe and has for two years. She is kind, and you can eat her delicious clam chowder and blueberry muffins if you're bored. Jenna is a sort of average person, and nothing about her really stands out that much. But that does not at ALL whatsoever make her a bad character; she's probably my favorite. Holt Scotto spends his day usually at the Hot Kettle drinking coffee. He's running for harbormaster, and the time he spends not in the cafe he usually spends at campaign meetings, but that's funny because he isn't exactly what you'd call a politician. Katie despises him, and the feeling is pretty mutual. Holt's a little amusing at times, especially when he flips out if you try to get into the lighthouse when he's watching you. A good, solid character. Andy Jason runs a whale-watching business just like Katie. But his is all decked out, and is at a special place called Whale World. You can play games in her center, and he is the friendliest of all the characters to Nancy, though I find him slightly obnoxious and WAYYYYYY too enthusiastic about what he does. Even so, he fits well into the game. A character you can never meet face-to-face but is a HUGE and crucial part of the game is an older lady named Hilda Swenson. She went "crazy" after her husband died, and moved to land across from Snake Horse Harbor without taking any possessions along with her so she could escape all the people of the harbor, whom she grew bored of. Hilda has a lively personality and is very active, and a request she makes to Nancy is a major part of the case. I have nothing to complain about the characters, they are all very different and have different stories to tell. Great characters!! I'll give them 5 stars. Transportation- There are two methods of transportation in this game: bike and canoe. By bike you can go to 4 places: Katie's boat, the Hot Kettle Cafe, Whale World, and the Lighthouse. If you're traveling by canoe, you can get lost and go anywhere you want, but sophisticated places to go are the beach, the sea caves, and a few places in the water that Hilda assigns you where to go. Unlike some ND games, there are plenty different atmospheres and places to go. All the transportation stuff I'll present with 5 stars. Puzzles- Great!! The puzzles were fun and didn't usually require cheats, but not so easy that they took you five minutes to figure out. There weren't really any "big" puzzles, and you wouldn't know right off the bat that it was a puzzle, but you can't really qualify them as anything else. They were fun to solve and as usual about half the game. The puzzles were brilliant, so I'll easily give them 5 stars. Ending- I was very, very, very pleased with the ending of this game!! It all happened so well and fit together perfectly. I won't give you too many details, but I'll say that this ending is one of the best ones!! There was a bit of a twist and it made playing this game all worth it. Unlike some of the ND games, this ending was brilliant. It didn't leave you feeling cheated, and it fit well as a part of the game. I'll give it 5stars before you can say "Alacadabra!!" Extras- This game, along with most Nancy Drew games, had various things you could do other than solving the case. You could go to Whale World's centers and play 4 different mini-games. Also, you could visit the Hot Kettle Cafe and eat lots of clam chowder and muffins. Lastly, you could go to the beach and build sandcatles or tickle a goldfish. The extras came in fun bundles, and I'm glad they were there. They deserve 5 stars. They were great to play when you got bored of or stuck in the mystery. Though I didn't find myself get bored, they were fun do anyway. Overall- Altogether, this game was FAB!! It was SO much fun to play the first time, and the second, and the third, and on and on and on. You will not be disappointed if you purchase Danger on Deception Island. And, for the final tally- Setting/Graphics- 4 stars Plot- 5 stars Characters- 5 stars Transportation- 5 stars Puzzles- 5 stars Ending- 5 stars Extras- 5 stars Add those up: 34, and divide by 7, and round to a total of: 4.9 stars!! Yay!! Thanks so much for taking the time to read my review!! I really hope it helped!!
