I use this double boiler to make yogurt. It fits in the pot I use to make my double boiler. The pot is very sturdy , easy to hold and the handle does not get hot! I gave it 4 stars because it is a tad bit tricky to clean the 90 degree edge on the inside of the pot where the sides meet the bottom. A toothburush would work great in this area. I am very happy with this purchase and recommend it.

I purchased this to use for candle making, specifically for making 4" ball candles with the molds I also purchased on Amazon. I had to find a pot deep enough so the bottom of this unit did not contact the bottom of the boiling pot, like it did with my existing Dutch ovens. I found a stainless steel pot that was 8" deep for around $8 at a local store, which works great! This double boiler is perfect for my candle making purpose, as it holds large quantities of wax and, more importantly, pours perfectly in a manner that is easy to control. The pour spouts are formed exactly as needed for slow, no-drip pours. I actually was able to pour the melted wax through a hole that was only 1/2" in diameter. Easy cleanup too!

I make homemade soap, wax tarts and other bath products and this is a lifesaver! I use to to melt my wax in for my tarts. Heat dispersion is even and I LOVE the pour spouts and long handle. And cleanup is a breeze because it's stainless. So glad I purchased it!

Purchased this to melt chocolate and icings in large batches to dribble over fresh baked pastries, as well as to keep my mocha hot throughout the day without scorching. Was hoping would fit the Instant Pot, which it does but sits a couple inches high inside the chamber. This means the IP60 can hold about 3L water around the NorPro; kinda inefficient to get any brew heated up in a hurry but at least no danger of the pot running dry during the day. Lower section of the NorPro fits perfectly in the Ecolution Pure Intentions Stainless Steel 2-Quart Saucepan also purchased here, and fits an old 3Q Tramontina dutch oven of mine to a T. Also kinda fits a relatively new SS T-Fal 3L, though a bit tricky to balance so as to keep level. Luckily though the glass lid of the T-F mates perfectly with the NorPro, quite a boon because this double boiler doesn't come with its own — perhaps typical of this style with [dripless!] pour spouts, but with such a large vessel would have been nice at least to have the option of buying a dedicated cover as an add-on. Not to mention but I also found that using a lid helps stabilze the balance, either when immersing the NorPro inside another vessel or standing it up on a counter solo. Concur with rest of reviewers as to the overall high quality of piece. Definitely the most sturdy and well polished of any double boiler I've ever had... perhaps even too good for my lousy cooking! Included are shots of various setups I tried using the NorPro with varying degrees of success. Please note that the glass lid pictured does not come with this double boiler and I have no idea where it might be purchased separately. It is by no means necessary for use, just convenient.

Sturdy gauge stainless. Does displace a ton of water. Good for melting candy for coatings and egg based sauces. Remember due to the odd shape you will need a larger pan with less water than you think

Love it for making a special frosting that requires a double boiler. Doesn’t spill over the edges as it increases in size! I’m also thinking it will be perfect to make caramel apples in the fall!

I could of used on a size smaller but it still is well made and works great

Love it love it love it. After futzing around with makeshift double boilers (for soaomaking) i decided to splurge. Used it for the first time today and it's fannntastic. Oils melted evenly and cleanup was a breeze. Highly recommend.

Purchased to make caramel apples and it's perfect. It rested securely on the rim of a 6 quart pot after I added the caramel to melt. The well at the bottom makes it easy to coat apples with much less caramel needed in a regular pot. After finishing my apples, I had only about 3 Tbsp melted caramel left which I poured onto wax paper and will use in next batch. Smooth stainless surface was easy to clean up. I just added hot water to the little bit stuck on and it washed right off. I don't make candy but I would think this would work well for that.

I love this double boiler. I made a pie a couple days ago. I melted butter in this db by resting it in a couple inches of water in saucepan, then took off heat and used blender in it to mixes other ingreds, then put it right back in sauce pan to bring it up to temp for hot pie filling. Poured hot pie filling right into warm pie crust and then easily washed db right up. Pretty, sturdy, practical. It’s great!
