For the price, this is a really good quality recorder that, in the right hands, has beautiful tone. Also it's transluscence allows your child or you to see how much saliva has gotten collected in there. I know ew! But, when my kids used it, they knew when to swab it out! It's literally a fast way into reading music and understanding how to play with finesse and breath control. Now my kids are playing guitar, piano, and recorder and loving it. Good to see them so excited. All because of this great value product.

I'm not going to lie here... I may have had a few drinks and went Amazon shopping when I made this purchase. I really wanted to re-live my childhood and see if I could still play the recorder. This purchase did not let me down. It's just a standard recorder with a little fabric carrying case. And if you were wondering, I can definitely still play "Do-Re-Mi" by ear.

Unfortunately we paid more for this on Amazon than we could have at a music shop -- but it's hard to find them when they're in stock in our area. They have a nice sound, not screechy- great student quality piece. I bought 3 for our children, as they are all learning recorder here at home. Note: I am not reviewing the price here on Amazon, but the recorder itself!

Pros: - Really easy to grip. - No issues playing this thing. Easy finding material on the internet (sheet music) and YouTube (tutorials). Cons: - My dog believes I am summoning the devil whenever I play it.

As I am writing this review, my son is happily practicing some tune he learned in music class which I just cannot recognize. It sounds like hot cross buns mixed with jingle bells, mixed with a healthy dose of not quite being in tune. I am simultaneously happy that he is enjoying this instrument and exploring music, and frightened that his current fad with the recorder might be long lasting. Like most of the parents purchasing this, I received notice from my son's school that this exact recorder must be purchased for music class. So I dutifully did. The recorder is make of very nice plastic, has a very pleasing color that looks like ivory, and has this uncanny ability to convince anybody to pick it up and blow into it as if they can magically play a little tune. I tried, my wife tried, and neither one of us could do anything with it other than make each other's ears bleed. The recorder comes in a nice canvas storage pouch. The minute I took it out of the pouch and looked at it, it instantly reminded me of my time in grade school music class blowing away at this thing. Ahhh, memories. The recorder appears to be pretty solid. So far it has survived the abuse sustained by being in my son's back pack like a champ. Hopefully it'll last until his younger sister needs it for music class in a couple years.

Well made and lovely sound. Bought these for my kids for our homeschool and they are loving them. I got a pink and blue in the YRS-20series. I even remembered several songs from when I was a kid and picked it right up and started playing them! Recorders are great first instruments for kids. My 8 year old is picking it up quickly.

On a Friday the school sends home a letter that says our kids are going to be learning the recorder and they need to bring one to school... on Monday. I crisis ordered this bad boy. Turns out there's options for recorders. It's been a minute since I played the recorder in grade school and I had no idea what I was shopping for. This is it parents! Yamaha is music teacher recommended. This exact one is what my kid's music teacher said he would have ordered. And prime shipping saved me! It comes with a little bag and so far it has held up well. I'm 90% certain my kid will lose it before the year is up. I'm ordering a spare just in case at this price. Don't buy the clear/colored ones. I was told they break easily and don't sound as good.

Pros: * Multiple joints that slide well, easy to tune and adjust pinky holes * Sounds just like I remember from 20 years ago * I learned how to play the Harry Potter song and I can reliably get 70-80% of the notes correct Cons: * My roommates have it made it clear that they don't think learning recorder is something a grown man should be doing

I am in awe! I have been playing soprano for over 25 years. I didn't expect much other than cute and colorful from this recorder because there are some really junky sopranos out there but this one actually sounds great! All the notes are in tune. It has over a two octave range...easily (middle C to high D - above the staff). I have played all kinds of music with this instrument from concertos to jigs and it never faltered. Can't believe the price! I have been playing the Yamaha YRS-314B for 17+ years and this pink recorder is like a clear pink version. Love it!! Will need the blue and green ones now. Highly recommend.

This instrument has a good sound and is easy to play. It is good for beginners, especially at its price level. It is also very durable. Although I haven't tried throwing it at the ground, it has fallen a few times (I use it to introduce my baby to musical instruments and she loves making noise on it, though she's too young to do too much more than that right now).
