I love this tool. You can quickly and easily determine whether you have a problem with your HEI ignition system, and if so, exactly where the problem is. The unit has been designed to show a spark only if there is sufficient energy. There is no need to determine the color of the spark as is required with some other ignition testers. This makes it super easy for you -- if there is a spark, that component is good... if there is no spark you have a failed component. I was rapidly able to determine that I had a bad coil on my F-150 that was causing a misfire in Cylinder #8. As luck would have it, the following week I had a misfire problem in my Dodge Caravan on Cylinder #3. Using this tool it showed me, again, that the problem was a bad coil on that vehicle. The test time was less than 3 minutes on each vehicle. I paid about 9 bucks for this unit from Amazon which is WAY cheaper than taking my vehicle to a mechanic, and I only had to replace the bad component on each vehicle... no getting ripped off by a mechanic for expensive parts that I did not need as you read that happens to others all the time in the car/truck forums. I highly recommend this tool!
This is a simple inexpensive tool that will tell you a lot about your coil and spark plug wires. I was getting a misfire code on my Ford but no other codes to indicate what might be causing the misfires. I changed the spark plugs with no improvement. Then I bought this tool and found a HUGE difference in the spark between one cylinder and another. You can use it at the spark plug end of the wire or at the coil. This will help you determine whether the spark plug wire is good or perhaps a coil is bad. This tool helped me a lot better than my $200 analyzer in solving my ignition problem.

I purchased this tester to work on my own vehicles as a handy man. I like the design of it where you just clamp one end to a good known ground and the plug wire to the tip end your ready to test the ignition system. It seems to be well made and durable. I do recommend this as a way to test your on High Energy Ignition in your personal vehicle for those of us guys who like to do their own repairs.
Worked great! Found that my # 4 cop was not firing. Alittle hit.. use a battery cable ground to hold the unit and ground the other end to the block. Makes a lot easier.
Cheap and easy to verify if you have a bad COP. Just pull the COP and reconnect it to a connector that is easy to get to and it will show you immediately whether or not it is working. A good COP will give you a bright blue spark that dances in a circle inside the tube. Good deal.
