I have 1 in my kitchen and 1 in R.V. Ordering 2 more, 1 for mom and 1 for mother in law. Work great. Don't be in a hurry, make sure plug is in spout before filling, don't over fill, and let set for a minute or so before removing plug and pouring out. Have used the one in kitchen at least 50 times, and it has been through the dishwasher as many times, with no problems. Took it to moms to make gravy for thanksgiving, and to wifes mom for second thanksgiving. Both want one, as did sister in law, but her husband asked me not to order 1 for her so he could get it as stocking stuffer.

I've had plenty of fat separators in the past, but this one outshines all the others due to one simple feature - the front lip of the cup is significantly higher than the top of the spout. If you haven't used a fat separator in the past, this is important because it dictates how much you can tip it without it spilling over. Others I've had weren't as good in this respect, so the pours were very, very slow. The top grid is good for catching spout clogging particles, in the past I would strain the stock going into the separator, this is good enough that I can strain coming out. The spout plug is helpful if you're trying to maximize the amount of fat you get out of the stock, but not really necessary (tilt the separator away from the opening at the bottom when you first start pouring the stock in, then flatten it out. Does the same thing). Seems durable, only had it a few months so far.

I tend to go through fat separators like crazy. I have a feeling this one will be lasting some time. I strain bone broth straight from the instant pot with zero problems cracking.

My aunt barged into the kitchen on Thanksgiving, brandy and gin (she calls it her "GO JUICE") on her breath. As she peers into the oven at our bird, she begins to reminisce about Thanksgiving dinners past, when she brings up the cursed memory. 2017's gravy fiasco. I was 90 days sober and decided to have everyone over for dinner. I was not paying attention and used too much fat to flour. The gravy broke. Aunt Yolanda berated me for 25 minutes during dinner. My mother was crying. She called me a failure and asked if I had been drinking again. I decided this year NOT to mess up. This device saved Thanksgiving and shut my Aunt Yolanda up very quickly. 10/10

This replaces a similar looking device that eventually failed due to old age. The stopper for the spout is an amazing improvement on this very old technology. And if you lose the stopper, a wine cork fits perfectly. The stopper / cork keeps fat from entering the spout as you fill the main chamber with broth. Thus you don't pour fat into your "degreased" pot. Clever and cheap - my two favorite things.

Many years ago, I had a super cheap, 2 Cup fat separator. It was wonderful. But it was small. It was lost in a move, and since then I have simply put the pan juices in a bowl, cooled and skimmed the fat. What a fool; these Fat Separators are easy to find. This year I sprung for a new pan AND turkey lifter (forks). When this popped up in the suggested items, I though. "What the heck, let's add it too!" Why oh why did I wait so long??? Thanksgiving morning, after lifting my 31# turkey from it's new Calphalon pan, using my new turkey lifters, I poured off all the drippings into my new OXO separator. Well, that's not true. I poured half into it, skimming off the big bits with the hand catch top. The other full quart waited in a Mason jar until this settled a bit. Within about 5-10 minutes, the fat had risen and I skimmed off all I needed to make gravy. I made a quick roux in my new Calphalon pan and then added the skimmed broth with my OXO separator. I then dumped the other quart in and within minutes was able to finish my gravy. It is amazing. I just washed it in the dishwasher and cannot believe I waited this long to buy one. This is such a nicely sized, well made product. As always with OXO, the handle is comfortable and simply feels good in my hand. Wonderful product.

I didn't realize how much I needed one of these. What a time saver! It had been aggravating to have to chill the broth to get the fat off. Why didn't I get one of these sooner? This fat separator isn't specifically hard to clean, it's just that the spout is long and narrow and getting in the opening is a bit tough. Any brand would be the same on that note I imagine. It isn't so bad if you remember to drain the fat and throw it away instead of letting it set. I hand wash with Dawn and hot water then put it through the dishwasher. I recommend this one.

Works like a charm! Large and thick walled so it handled very hot liquid nicely. The filter inset lid catches large bits so you don't have to fish them out of the liquid. The holes are not fine so if you need to remove smaller items like seasonings then you will need to use a sieve once you've removed the fat to get a clearer broth. The rubber stopper really keeps the fat from clogging the spout! One suggestion: I would love to have had a brush to clean the spot included with the separator. I would have paid extra for that!

I originally wanted to return this when I received it due to the size, it's pretty big and I have limited storage space. I had planned to exchange it for a smaller version. It must have been a a sign it was a non returnable item and I ended up using it to make gravy on Thanksgiving. I've never used a gravy separator, but I have to say it works amazingly well. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it made the gravy making process. I poured in the drippings and the fat nicely rose to the top allowing me to pour the drippings into my gravy. My only gripe as another reviewer stated is that I wish it had a brush to clean the spout. Dishwasher was not able to get it clean and I had to get creative to get itcl properly.

the great thing about this is the spout plug. just insert it before you pour in the liquid and then remove it when you need to pour and you will find that it starts from the bottom without the first drop of fat in the spout. the quality al always with oxo is high quality. Here is a company that understands its customers. Produce an exceptional high quality product and people will continue to purchase and trust them. I do not think I have ever had an OXO product that I have not been pleased with. sometimes you do not have to build a better mouse trap , just build a better quality mouse trap.
