Helps keep the water clean
The filters really help keep the water clean. I have cats that love sticking their little paws in the water fountain and making the water yucky a lot faster than it would get otherwise. At first I didn't buy the filter because I figured I could get by w/o them and you can, but your cat's water will be disgusting in no time which is counter productive of having a water fountain the first place. With the filters I don't have to change the water as often and that makes the kiddies happy because they are in love with that water fountain and hates it whenever its down for service.

My cats love it.
This pet water Fountain works great well made and my cats love it. Super easy to clean. I clean it once a week and everything seems to be good. I add water everyday. Ordered it with the extra reservoir but why not the cost was the same with or without and who’s knows I might get another cat have 2 now. I might get a dog things are always changing but as far as water for my pets I’m ready.

The best filter at a good price
Multiple cats don't have an issue sharing water from a Drinkwell (unlike sharing other things). These charcoal cartridges make the water seem fresh to them for a long time. Yes, you need to put one in a bowl of water and let the loose carbon float off before using. That's not very hard. I do that while taking apart the Drinkwell pieces and cleaning off cat hair and whatever else off the unit before reassembling with the new filter. I gave this five stars, but I have never drunk from it, so can't vouch for how good the water tastes. But it's the preferred drinking spot for out felines, and have many years experience using countless filters. The authentic Drinkwell filters are best, and Amazon sells them at a good price.

Actual OEM filters for my Drinkwell Platinum Pet Fountain
I have had my Drinkwell Platinum fountain for over 24 years and in all those years, I have used a multitude of filters which I all thought came from the PetSafe vendor. Since I had anywhere between 2-4 cats simultaneously over those years and the filters were original, the fountain water stayed clean and would actually last up to 7-8 weeks (2 months). The filters use to come in a foil package with three to a package. I never paid attention to the design on the filter (6 squares or 2 squares). However, I ordered this 12-pack of filters and received 12 separate filters in a plastic covering. I did not realize that the ones with the 6 squares were knock offs and complete garbage causing the water to foam and foul with black mold within a few days. However, these filters come in a 3-pack and have the 2 squares on them which are as pictured on the PetSafe website. These are definitely the original OEM filters. My cats' water no longer fouls and I have been using the same filter for a couple of weeks now. I would never order the other filters again.

Well, my cat knew when the filter wasn't there, so yeah, HE needs the filter
I was finished cleaning my Drinkwell fountain and didn't realize I had the last filter. I didn't bother putting the filter back in. Why would Frank, my cat, know the difference. Frank refused to drink from the fountain. He has been using it religiously for ten years. At 2:00 a.m. in the morning, he was sucking on the tub faucet, which is something he hasn't done in years. So, yeah, the filters do make a difference in taste and I immediately ordered some more online. (I dug the older, 6 week old filter out of the wastebasket and Frank went back to the fountain.)I had to respond to the person who said it doesn't make a difference. It sure did to my Frank. I bought the fountain when he just wouldn't drink water out of a bowl and his kidneys were abnormal at age two. He's twelve now and his kidneys are dandy. I love the Drinkwell, filter and all. I want my Frank around a long time. Without the drinkwell, his kidneys wouldn't have lasted long. That just shows you how important water is to your kidneys, people and pets alike. Drink up!

Love the filters, well made enough to clean and reuse
At our rescue we have two Big Dog fountains. While we would love to put in a new filter with each weekly water change and fountain wash, we learned to conserve by reusing them. This is probably not what the manufacturer wants to hear, but by rinsing off the filter or even lightly washing the white side with suds from dishsoap and using 1 ounce of white cooking vinegar to a gallon of water to lightly spritz the white side of the filter, and let it dry in the sunshine along with the disassembled and washed fountain. Before putting the filter back in, we rinse it well. Happy cats have clean water and no gross slime mold.

Wouldn't be without it
I want the best water filtration system for my pets' health. I've always used these filters for the' Drinkwell fountain water dish. I use filtered water also. The filters catch the sediment with the carbon cleansing the water as it rushes through. Each one lasts a few months if you rinse it out well with plain water (no soap or chemicals to upset the bio system) each day as you wipe out the bowl, rinse and refill it. The bowl itself needs to be taken apart monthly to clean the pump wheel. First, remove the filter, fill the bowl with dish soap, water and a tbsp. of bleach. Turn the unit on and let it run through for an hour then take it apart and clean well with brushes or your dedicated sponge. It will remove any mold that has accumulated. It must be removed for the health of your baby.

Buy in bulk for good value. A necessary accessory.
A required accessory to keep your Drinkwell Fountain working properly. They are easy to install, and can be cleaned and reused to extend their functional life without losing water quality. It is best to give the filters a good rinse or light soak before replacing, otherwise you might get a ring of charcoal dust on the bottom of your fountain. Harmless to your pet but a nuscience to have to clean. If you buy these filters in the bulk packs it brings the individual price of each one down and is easier on the wallet, and you have peace of mind knowing your pet's water is clean and your fountain should operate at best efficiency.

Great filters
These filters are great. I keep them on hand for my pets water fountain. They keep the water clean, catch hair and debris, and keep the water fresh. The water stays free of odor and my pets drink lots of water. I keep a supply on hand. They work well and are priced reasonably.

They work great!!!
And buying these filters for years for my cat to cat feeders can’t say enough about them right the only thing I would recommend is that you were in some really good under clear water before putting them into the tank just way any excess charcoal doesn’t come out in the water as the sentiment in the dish. been buying these filters for years for my cat to cat feeders can’t say enough about them right the only thing I would recommend is that you rent some really good under clear water before putting them into the tank just way any excess charcoal doesn’t come out in the water as a sentiment in the dish
