Very easy to instal and easy to use. Have had them for months and my three year old and 18 month old cannot open them. Doing their job for sure! UPDATE!!!!! Well freak! Still gives stars. We have had them for two years and two finally broke (the two mostly used) within a week of each other. Two years of almost daily uses and they held up. My kids are now five and three. My husband hated that two were off, so he took them ALL off. I just got home to the smell of gas. My dog reached up on the stove to grab a cooking spoon I had left on there. She turned the gas on and filled the house. Hello Mr Firemen. 😠Luckily she didn't start a fire.
We bought this because one day my cat decided to put our gas stove on. Scared the life out of me so I decided to try these, they work great. I don't know about kids, no kids in my household but if you need it for your cats then buy it!
These knob covers are great for dog owners. They are extremely easy to put on, they are very easy to open when you need to turn your burners on or off, and they protect your home from catching on fire due to counter surfing dogs who could otherwise accidentally turn the gas knob on when trying to investigate smells or food bits on the stove. Our dog is well behaved and has never counter surfed (as far as we know) but we put them in as an added precaution because animals can be unpredictable and stoves do smell like food to them. The covers are fairly big, so if your stove knobs are unusually close together, they might not fit. They are 2.75 inches in diameter As far as childproofing goes, I think the effectiveness would depend on how dexterous and determined the child is. It's not that hard for a human to open. The knobs are a clear plastic and look fine in the kitchen. If we were staging the house to sell it we would probably take them off, but they don't really stand out or get in the way of the existing modern decor.
I like these a lot! My son has grabed the knobs and turned just the gas on without igniteing it so that gas was leaking out in our house, which is really dangerous. The knob covers make the kitchen a lot safer for him. To instal you have to remove the knob on the stove which took me a little bit to figure out because the are stuck on fairly tight and i didn't want to break my stove. I ended up you tubeing it. But it worked in the end. I included a picture to help others see how they are instaled
These totally work with respect to keeping our daughter from trying to play with the knobs and also blend in nicely with our oven's stainless and black look. These do not melt either. I totally recommend!
The knob covers are easy to put on the knobs and simple to snap open when you want to cook. I got these after moving in with someone who owns a cat. The cat often roams on the stove top, especially at night. There is no way to monitor what a cat does when you're asleep. These are a great option for people with gas stoves, who want to keep the stove from lighting up or gassing from a cat playing on it. To put the knobs on, you slide each one off, put the knob inside, and slide the knobs back on the stove with the safety cap opened so you can get the knobs back on. Then you snap the covers shut. The knob cover leaves plenty of room around the knob so a cat paw will not be able to twist the stove knob on. If a cat paw touches the cover, the cover will move around and jiggle but not snap open or fall off or move the knob. The only way the knob can be turned on is by someone pressing the snap button hard with their finger.
I used these in an apartment that I was temporarily renting. I was not used to a gas stove or burner knobs that were in the front of the stove. So I would constantly lean on them and accidently turning on the gas, just the gas and not the flame. I came home one night after dinner out to find my apt smelling really badly of gas. So I opened all the windows and deck door to alleviate the gas smell went in search of these knob covers. I felt safer knowing that I would not accidentally hit the knob and turn on the gas again. I also had my two dogs in the apartment when the gas was leaking - so it could have killed them as well or it could have happened while I was asleep. WHEW
I don't have young children. But my new stove has dials that turn on with the slightest bump. On several occasions I've smelled gas and then checked to see the knob turned just enough to let out gas, not enough to light. I can't believe this is not considered reason for a recall! Obviously the consequences of not noticing would be completely catastrophic. The old stove had knobs that had to be pushed in firmly in order to turn. This stove, well you do have to push and turn, but the "push" is hair trigger. The brush of a hip from a passing person is enough to turn it on. Not to mention what could happen if a dog put his paws up there. So there you have the back story. I thought of just keeping the knobs off entirely when not cooking, but that would be so inconvenient that I doubt people would keep it up. These covers are the perfect solution. They are very easy to open when you are ready to cook and snap closed when you are done, really no inconvenience at all. I feel so relieved not to have to worry about the house blowing up! (I mean, geez stove guys, get a design engineer in there. How hard could it be to make a stove knob that works properly!) The only downside is that when the tops are open they hang down so that when opening the oven, the oven handle sometimes knocks off both the cover and knob. So if I am cooking on top of the stove while also opening and closing the oven to check on things in there, I keep the knob covers closed. So there is an extra step if I want to adjust the heat on the burner, of popping open the cover. I find it not at all annoying, considering the peace of mind I get in return.
Frantically bought these after I woke up on a fluke at about midnight one night to walk out of my room and discover the whole downstairs smelled pretty badly of gas. I didn't think my two year old could turn the difficult-to-turn knobs on our stove, so I didn't stress about it. OOPS! But holy smokes that was scary. Another hour or two and it would have reached the door-less upstairs where our kids were sleeping. *SHUDDER* Apparently, he managed to turn a knob juuuuuuust enough to turn the gas on but not turn on the flame. And he had to have done it right before bedtime too, because we were completely unaware. These awesome covers enter the scene, and now the only time he fiddles with the knobs is to have fun spinning these harmlessly around in place. One time his older sister took a gander at them, but instead of being able to open them, she popped it right off...Which took the whole knob with it. In other words, she/he couldn't turn on the stove without the knob. So yeah. They work! PS WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND DESIGNS A STOVE WITH THE KNOBS ON THE FRONT WHERE ANY LITTLE PERSON COULD EASILY REACH?!?!?!?
Six cats and a gas stove don't mix. After a few incidents of my clumsy ninjas not-so-gracefully jumping up on the stove and turning the gas on, I knew I had to do something about it. Half an hour before these were delivered, one of my furry assassins turned the gas on yet again. Needless to say, I eagerly ripped open the packaging the moment these arrived. They were so easy to install and I would have been done in minutes had I not decided to clean the stove while the knobs were off. While my husband wasn't thrilled about having to put child-proof covers on the knobs of our stove when we don't even have kids, I think they look really nice. The tinted black goes well with our black stove and doesn't even stand out. As a bonus, our house hasn't exploded and we're not dead. While one of the cats did manage to step on the cover just right and pop it open, I'm happy to say that she didn't turn the stove on. I've watched them jump up and the cover just spins as it should and we've been incident free since these were installed. For the time being, I can sleep better at night knowing that we've successfully thwarted our cats' attempts to kill us. I couldn't be happier!
