This is such a high-quality mat. I use it for so many things. You will not be disappointed in its quality. Also, here's a bonus: It is shipped in a very nice plastic bag with extremely thick cardboard to protect it (and it lays flat while shipping). You can save and modify the shipping setup to make sure that your mat always stays in pristine condition when not in use (as you can see in my photo).

Using this as a cutting pad and leaving it on as a general-purpose work surface on my workbench and it is quite nice. The whitish color reflects light making the whole work area seem brighter. The stuff this pad is made of is like the indestructoniuum hull of the Enterprise- so far no solvents or oil have attacked it at all and it cleans up with a quick wipe. My sweetheart has one on her light-table in her art studio and it allows plenty of light transmission for cutting stencils etc. Good product, well worth the money. Those Xacto folks seem to know what the heck the're doing when it comes to cutting stuff.

First off, I'm one of the people out there who research most purchases. I try to compare features that aren't normally mentioned on product pages. For instance, while shopping for an 18"x24" cutting mat I compared the obvious (color, average customer reviews, price, etc.) to the not so obvious, like layers and thickness. First off, besides the larger size, I decided I needed a cutting mat with good contrast between the guidelines and the mat itself. Until I received this mat, I was using a smaller (6"x18") Fiskars mat for my cutting needs. It handled cuts of all types fine, but the size showed it's limitation very quickly, and the orange guidelines on the dark gray background made lining up the edges of items to be cut somewhat difficult. So after looking around at the various cutting mats available, it came down to this one, an Alvin and a Dhale. I ruled out the Alvin because I really didn't want a green mat. The dahle mats look and seem very nice, and have great reviews (in fact I have a black one on the way as well), but only the black one seemed suitable for my needs; it has a black background and light gray guidelines. The blue Dahle is nice, but I don't feel there's enough contrast between the background and the guidelines. A shame really, because blue is my favorite color. As for the transparent Dahle, they really need to give that one an overhaul, as there is nearly no contrast between the background and guidelines. Blue guidelines would make the transparent Dahle much more desirable, and more importantly, useful and functional. So after ruling out the Alvin, and blue and transparent Dahle mats, I ordered the X-Acto. Shipping was prompt, packaging was very sufficient for the item and the price was very good (ordered from shoplet). As for the cutting mat itself, it's absolutely fantastic. It's a nice light gray with light blue guidelines. The contrast is perfect. It's a 5 layer design, like most of the better brands. What really surprised me is the thickness. This cutting mat is twice that of my Fiskars. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. If you need a good, thick, reliable cutting mat, give the X-Acto brand a good look. My Fiskars has served me well, and still has a place in my workspace, but it's taking the bench while the X-Acto becomes my front runner.

I bought this so I could avoid having to borrow my wife's mat that she uses for her quilting projects. I've only needed it a couple of times since, but it does seem to work pretty well. I used it to cut some foam rubber and you can't tell by looking where the cuts were made. I will admit that you can just barely feel the place, but I don't think it will be a problem. It's a good size for a lot of projects and the printed graph/ruler is a big help. I also found it to be less money than some of the ones used for quilting. It's about 1/8" thick and not flimsy so it won't curl under what ever you're cutting. I would certainly recommend this product.

If you're like me and need to use X-ACTO knives frequently, then this board is for you. I make things out of foam board often and have the respective X-ACTO foam board cutter, but using cardboard on a hard table was annoying. It would get caught in it, slowing me down and probably also dulling the razor. I got this since it's made from the same brand, but mainly so I could cut and know that the knife is on a surface that is designed to not dull it and take cuts. All I can say is...it does what it's advertised to do. The cuts disappear by themselves, so this thing will last for years. I cut foam board on it too, and it was nice knowing that I could push as hard and deep as I could for once, in oppose to restraining myself a bit to avoid cutting into cardboard like before. The grid on it is nifty, too. I got this on here for probably about half the price than it is in other online shops, so I think I scored. So, if you use X-ACTO knives a lot and need a board that isn't too small to where almost no project will fit on it, or one that's too large with more space than you need and a hefty price tag, then this is perfect for you.

I was looking for something new to replace the green unbranded mat I've been using for the last 10 years or so. There are certainly many to choose from on Amazon. I picked the X-Acto based on Amazon's price and the fact that I wanted a mat that would tolerate high-pressure linear paper cutting (especially heavy guage paper) with an X-Acto type of blade. So far it's been great! Like all mats of this composition you can run your finger over the surface and feel your previous cut lines, however this particular model has a bit smoother healing performance versus others I've used in the past. I also like the fact that it's somewhat thicker than most. To me, the gray background with light blue color scheme is easier on the eyes than the typical green / yellow style. Definitely recommended!

I just helped my daughter put down self-stick vinyl tiles in her newly finished basement. The cutting mat was great protecting the table where I used a razor box-cutter to score the vinyl tiles. The mat held up very well! I look forward to using it for art projects with my x-acto knife set, too. It is much larger than the previous cutting mat that I had used and covers my work area much better.

This matt is heavy and perfect for my book binding cutting and working. It is large enough to fill a good working space and I like the fact that it is grey rather than green. The guidelines are obvious and easy to use. I would recommend this cutting mat to anyone who wants a mat of substance. It is heavy and not partcularly portable but that makes it a perfect permanent working space.

This mat came in perfect condition, unlike some of the ones that other reviewers got! I ordered it on June 11, and I already have it today! (June 14)! I did not pay anything for the shipping by the way!~ Make sure you buy it from the right seller if you don't want to pay shipping & get the product fast! I paid around $13 for the whole thing including tax. I got it from the seller called My Office Innovations! It came in a huge box with air bags in it, and the mat was laying flat on the bottom of the box! The color was more of a light grey than a bright white, which I liked! I tested out the "self heal" function by making a scratch with my fingernail, and the indent seemed to pop back up by itself! (So far, so good) As for the smell, I could smell something, but it wasn't a bad smell.. kind of like the rubber smell from new shoes. I also like the elasticity of it. It was thin, but not flimsy. It could bend a little, but definitely not easy to bend in half! It is worth the money!

I purchased this, as well as the large size, to roll fondant out on. I also cut fondant and gum paste on these mats with a surgical scalpel and I couldn't be happier with the purchase. It's non-stick, self healing, and the grid pattern is super useful as well! I also really appreciate that these are thick and sturdy enough that they won't flip and flop and squish around when I'm rolling out fondant. I cut little pieces of rug backing and stick under the mat and it doesn't go anywhere. These are fantastic for cake decorators!
