I really like this puzzle. The colors are true to the picture. It is made of good quality wood and the edges are smooth. No problem with splinters. The faces of the characters are so cute and appealing. This is a very durable and safe puzzle. It is a fun way to learn about some of the animals in the zoo. It is a good way for children to learn more about colors. I like that it helps develop those small motor skills, too. She will, also, learn about the differences in shapes and sizes. It takes a critical eye to match the puzzle piece to the right cut out. Puzzles are a good gift because the child does everything themselves. They don't push a button and have it done for them. They have been around for a long time for a reason. Note: If you have more then one puzzle, take a sharpie and put a number on the back of the puzzle and the same number on the back of each piece. It works perfectly and you have added another skill. Number recognition, take two or three puzzles and mix all their pieces together then let the matching begin. My two year old niece won't be able to use that skill yet but as she gets older she will and won't out grow the puzzle skills as fast.

I purchased this puzzle for my niece who at the time was 16 months old. She enjoys puzzles and animals so I thought it would be an excellent fit. As it turns out she LOVES this puzzle and is one of her favorites. The Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Safari Chunky Puzzle is very good quality. It is sturdy with wood puzzle pieces. When my niece first received this puzzle she banged on it a lot and there has been very little ware despite that. In addition the the sturdiness, this puzzle is painted beautifully with very vivid colors. The pieces also fit perfectly into their spots. The puzzle is also great for learning. My niece doesn't just put the puzzle together, but together we go over the names of the animals, as well as their colors. I would definitely recommend the Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden Safari Chunky Puzzle, as well as other Melissa & Doug puzzles. I have since purchased the fantasy themed puzzle and intend to also purchase the letters puzzle.

My 18 month old son has several of these puzzles now. The Melissa and Doug Safari Animals one is great because it has nice bright colors and the pieces are the perfect size for little toddler hands. My son plays with these daily and so far there’s no paint chipping or splintering of the wood. My son seems to enjoy these and I would definitely recommend them.

This is a great tool for engaging the oil ones and labeling. Its also good for teaching hand eye coordination and simple commands like turn the car around, pick up, put on and clean up time. I picked up a few of these puzzles and I like that durability of the wood pieces and the strength of the board itself. The images are applied and not painted to the blocks. I've had these for about 14 months and I've seen no lifting or peeling. The twins just turned 3 a few months ago and there were a favorite toy option for them. Sometimes, I had to send them to nap with their favorite pieces. I have used a damp paper towel to clean stains. I'm more than satisfied. I purchased the farm animals, shapes, and construction sight.

We loved these puzzles. We still have them but at this point we've lost a lot of the pieces because my son likes to run around the house with them. I love most of the Melissa and Doug kids products. They really seem to hold up to my sons abuse and that goes for this puzzle as well, we bought it nearly a year ago and the pieces (When we find them) are still in pristine condition and the puzzles themselves are super solid not flimsy or pliable.

This has been such a hit for a while in our home. My daughter experiences the world mouth first so she loves to gum on the pieces and she then moved on to smacking them together and finally to putting them in the right spot. It's sturdy and the paint hasn't chipped from her constant attempts to eat them. Im excited to see her move to learning the names- this one will be a big hit for a while and is worth the investment!

My 20 month old loves puzzles... the only problem is that she can't really do the little 24 piece puzzles by herself yet, but these Melissa & Doug Chunky Puzzles are perfect for her. Each piece has the same picture underneath it, so it is more of a matching game than a puzzle, which is perfect for her age. We have a few of these puzzles now and she loves to mix all the pieces from all of them and then figure out which board to put each piece on. She loves her puzzles and with these ones, we often have to pull her away after a while to try something else. She could play with these for hours at a time if we let her. Best of all, these are educational, it wasn't long after playing with these puzzles that she started trying to make the sounds of some of the animals when she matches the pieces up. These are built well. I'd highly recommend these puzzles.

Great quality! The pieces are solid chunks of wood with a screen printed image on it and the back and sides are painted a corresponding color. When the pieces are picked up, the image of that same piece is underneath it, so they don't have to decide where it goes by the shape alone. We bought this and the Insect one for our 1 yr old for Christmas in 2013, so of course she needed help with it but the big chunky pieces were easy for her to hold and its just so bright and colorful!! It didn't get much play as a 'puzzle' but she liked to just play with the creature pieces. : ) It's almost a yr later and they still look great...just a couple of chips off the color but nothing really noticeable. It's not played with constantly, but whenever she comes across it she still plays with the pieces and tries to fit em into the puzzle board now!

My 2 year old daughter really loves this puzzle. She loves matching the shapes to the spots on the puzzle and she is also learning the names of the safari animals. These pieces do stand up on their own and my daughter likes to play with them separately from the puzzle. It is one of her favorite toys right now. I'm not sure if they changed the product somewhere along the line, or if people were getting knock off items, but our puzzle is painted wood not stickers. It appears to be very durable.

Very cute and colorful, my 2 1/2 years old daughter loves to play with it, perfect size for her little hands and easy for her to hold the pieces. Besides teaching them about shapes and making the connection in their little brains that says "this goes here or there", it allows me to teach her to name the animals and the sounds they make (in both english and spanish because we are a latin family) and she would take one of them and comes to me to show me and tell me its name and do the sound, it's really cute :-) . Also since it is so colorful she can practice the colors names (again english and spanish) and I can make up safari stories or take one of these guys and make them come to life, which she loves!! :-) I love a simple toy that looks more like real life and still keeps them entertained and at the same time encourages their imagination, I beleive a kid at this age needs a lot less from a toy than we think, they can get fascinated by a piece of wood and may lose interest in the sophisticated battery operated "whatever" in an hour. Summing up, very simple yet educational and cute toy, I love that combination and apparently my little girl does too :-)
