So easy to use, so safe.
I thought it might be overkill when I bought these alligator loppers to help cut down an old hedge in our front yard: After 2 minutes using manual loppers I was convinced I could never have gotten this done without these. They are very easy to use, and very safe, the design is clever in that you need both hands to operate, so no chance of accidentally activating while you are clearing the jaws. Also anti-kickback feature is great. I would recommend buying a heavy extension cord, and a locking attachment to keep it plugged in, it tends to come unplugged if it catches on branches or you step on the cord, but I guess that is also a kind of a safety feature. It is quiet (no earplugs necessary), and the added bonus, my "indoor" teens enjoyed using it, and so provided me with a lot of uncharacteristically enthusiastic help! UPDATE: After about a month of challenging use, this continues to perform. Twice I have managed to get the chain to come off the guide, both times when I was in a weird position with a very thick branch, and was inadvertently "torquing" the chain rather than just straight cutting. However, the chain was easily placed back on the guide using the instructions included. I will say that this operation is tough to do with just 2 hands, and the first time my wife helped hold the jaws open while I completed the re-threading of the chain; the 2nd time I managed on my own. My other minor nit is that the port that the chips come out of can get clogged with twigs, and sometimes has to be cleaned out. I still think this is the best product in this category on the market. Remember to oil the chain!

I like it because it holds the branch steady while it's ...
Report on 9/26/2017 - Purchased Jan 2012. For over 5 years, I've used this to cut branches. I purchased a spare chain, but haven't had to use it. I like it because it holds the branch steady while it's cutting. If you use a chain saw, unless someone else is holding the other end, the branch will be jumping back and forth. How big of a branch can it handle? Look at the attached photo. The tree in my front lawn died and I had to trim it up. The Alligator is wide enough to cut this stump! It only took about 5 minute to cut the branches down to 2 foot lengths for disposal. I noticed the price has been reduced to $67. Guys. Buy this. It's "dirt cheap". You'll have no regrets.

Keep mouth closed while using! Great product! Read this review!!!
I learned that you should not open your mouth while sawing wood with the lopper. I had to spit out wood chips and saw dust and leaves a few times! I was pleasantly surprised that this is as easy to use as the reviews and videos say! I am 64 and not as agile or strong as I used to be. But this takes very little effort to use. Because it works like scissors, and because you must use 2 hands, the weight is distributed well and it is not at all awkward to manipulate. It's also not overly noisy. I was disappointed to find that oil does not come with it. However, upon reading a government article on chain saw oils, I found that canola oil is perfect and I had some in my kitchen cabinet! The squeeze bottle that comes with the lopper is too hard to squeeze, but I let the oil drip from it into the hole on the lopper and then pushed the squeeze bottle nozzle into the hole to help the oil go down wherever it goes. It is almost impossible to hurt yourself with the chain saw part of this contraption. You would have to intentionally stick a body part between the scissor-like guards to saw something off or cut yourself. That being said, I read the 12 page manual, and I think it is very important to read it. Follow the instructions! They give you sound advice. I read about many dangers of which I had been previously unaware. It is easy to end up having a problem using the lopper, so be proactive and prepare yourself with the proper knowledge so as to avoid the problems common to chain saw use. At one point, I held the lopper upside down to cut a limb and it got stuck. I pulled the lopper out from the partially cut limb and the chain came off. So I got to follow the instructions to re-seat the chain. It was very hard to get the 2 nuts started turning (turn counter clockwise to loosen) but I gave a good yank on the included wrench and they moved. It was actually fairly easy to replace the chain. I was pleased and surprised and rather proud of myself to accomplish it, and without mishap. After every cut you make, shake the jaws out while running the chain in order to let any wood chips or debris fall out. When all done cutting, unplug the lopper and close your eyes and blow out any remaining debris. If necessary, remove the 2 nuts and the plastic piece they hold in order to completely clear out debris. Lastly, if you get tired, STOP! This is not a tool to use when you are even a bit weary. You don't need to misjudge and bring down a limb on your head, trip over something, or saw the electric cord. Oh - last, last thing: My palms got very sore from holding the lopper handles and from the vibrations. Of course, I didn't notice this was happening until after I was all done. I may invest in a pair of those gloves that protect against vibration. Or, next time, maybe I just won't do so much at one time, LOL!

This is an excellent lopper-chopper!!!
I just finished cutting my oleander hedge all the way to grade, again. First I cut each main oleander limb off at the stump. After that, after dragging each main limb to clear ground, I then lopper-choppered each main limb into smaller and smaller pieces until all of that limb's bits were each made to fit into heavy-duty plastic contractor bags. The time before this time when I cut those oleanders down then, which was about seven years ago, I used a regular chain saw that became dull really quickly due to the blade regularly coming into contact with dirt (I had to sharpen my blade over and over then before I was finally able to finish the job with that regular chain saw). With this lopper-chopper saw the blade was completely and entirely protected from the ground's dirt, so this time with this saw the blade remained super sharp from beginning to end. The time before this time I essentially could only use my regular chain saw to make the early cuts, and I had to finish the job with manual loppers. This time, with this saw, the saw itself was the loppers. This time with this saw I cut down my oleander hedge in a third of the time that it took to cut it down before. As the saying goes, work smart, not hard. My using this lopper-chopper this time was just plain genius. Get one!

Wow! light, powerful, fast!
This is an initial impression. I took it out of the damaged box it arrived in and tried it out today to make sure nothing was wrong. It is surprisingly good! After applying bar/chain oil to the saw, I chomped down on several 1"-2" branches and it was like going thru butter. I cut a forsythia bush down last year and a lot of 1/4" or less stems had sprouted up 2-3 feet high. I was able to corral several of them at a time with the jaws and effortlessly cut them. I tried it on the stump of a 4" diameter tree and it zipped though in a few seconds. All except the 4" stump were living trees and were running sap enough that I got some on my hands collecting the branches. The light weight of the tool, 6.5 lbs, is a big plus. I got this saw mainly to cut into smaller pieces and get rid of a large pile of branches of various lengths and thicknesses that flex when a regular chain saw is applied: the jaws of this tool makes cutting them so much easier. I expected that would be a job completed over several days, but this tool will make it a one-day job. How long the 6" chain will last until it gets dull, I don't know, but I bought a backup so I can drop-off one to my brother-in-law, who has a part-time business sharpening tools, and keep going with the other.

Tree Gone in a Day!
These worked great!. I took down a dense 15' tree in about 4 hours with an electric chainsaw. The result was a driveway full of limbs and branches. I used the Alligator Loppers in another 4 hours to reduce that whole pile into baggable chunks that went out with today's recycling. It could not have been easier. Worth every penny in time saved. They are easy to use. I watched a couple of videos on YouTube and went to town with them!

My new favorite landscaping toy
Great chainsaw, it worked exactly as I had hoped. I was able to cut down a few small trees and easily take some of the larger branches off of my hedges. I initially did not have the chain quite tight enough (my mistake) and it was extremely easy to get the chain back on with the poroper tension (and I am not the most mechanically inclined). I would recommend this to anyone I have noticed some of the other buyers complaining about not being able to get oil out of the little plastic bottle that comes with the saw and the solution is simple: the top twists like the top on a bottle of school glue.

Very Handy Product
If you are forced to tackle branch and or tree limb removal this little chain saw works very well and is suited for those not familiar with this type of power equipment. I opted for the corded model since my feeling about battery power when it comes to this type of equipment leads me to believe that a battery powered unit might be more problematic since it needs optimum power 100% of the time, although one must be careful not to damage the power cord while cutting. All in all a very handy saw for a homeowner.

I cant get over how it performs
I am so impressed at the way this cuts, we had 15 trees get blown over roots and all I bought this as chance and figured if it did not work oh well my bad. Since it was electric was not expecting too much, Wow was I surprised this dose all it is advertised to do and more I have not been easy on it. It cuts thru the branches like butter and I like that the chain is self-adjusting. The branches rang in size from less than an inch to 9 Inch’s. I have been using this for an average since it arrived Sunday 10 hours a day it is now three days straight and it is performing like a champ. Oh did I mention the trees were oak & walnut, I did sharpen the blade after two day use I cannot praise this product enough. I will update this in a month and let whoever is interested how it is lasting that is unless I get all the branches cut from the trees before that.

One of the best tool investments I've made for yardwork.
I love this! Gives me the power to cut through branches that are too big for a lopper or that I no longer am capable of cutting by hand. With all the rules and regs for yard waste disposal, this is a must have for me. I can make small sections of branches rapidly, that will fit into yard waste bags. The chain does come off at inconvenient times, but since I learned to push the spring mechanism of the blade back to hook the chain on again, it's not terrible. It's become one of the top workhorses in my arsenal to keep my yard jungle free. It's safe for me to use too. I'd never trust myself with a regular chain saw! :-O I'm a wild woman out in the yard.
