the front got super grimey, but once it cooled down I cleaned ...
Works well in our grill. I got it really gross when we had a large grease fire in the grill...metal got all discolored, the front got super grimey, but once it cooled down I cleaned it with dish soap and it came right back (though the metal is still discolored, but who cares). Despite the probably searing heat it endured, still reads temperatures well. Useful for grilling - the thermometer mounted in the lid is never accurate for the actual cooking surface, especially in a two-zone cooking method.

I went to good ol' Dr Google and began to research why this ...
I was having the strangest problems when cooking. I was trying new recipes, for cakes, dinners, appetizers, and they would always come out undercooked, raw, despite me following directions to a T. I went to good ol' Dr Google and began to research why this could be happening, and the common consensus was that perhaps the oven was, in fact, not cooking at the right temperature. I purchased this, because it was cheap, I wanted to just see if maybe the temperature was an issue. When I first got it, it told me it was cooking 20degrees LOWER than what I set the oven at, I thought this was absolute crap, no way, so I purchased another, thinking it was broken - Same thing. So the next time I baked, I upped my temperature by 20, and cooked, bam, food was perfect, I haven't had a problem since, I keep both of my thermometers in the oven now, and I use them to gauge the temperature of my oven, I have no raw/undercooked foods anymore

Large, simple display face and "safe" temperature ranges are easy to notice
Exactly as described. For a thermometer that is less than ten bucks, this is a great buy! Well made and a very clear, easy to read face. Definitely satisfied all of my expectations; understood it is not highly accurate (recommend buying a very expensive thermometer if that's your expectation). This one is close enough for monitoring my freezer. I especially like that anyone opening the freezer is now likely to read it and let me know of any impending problems. Another feature is there is no maintenance (that is, no batteries required).

This is a baker must have!
Oven temperatures vary and if it’s too far off from the temperature you think you set it at your baking creation might not turn out the way you hope. I think oven thermometers are a must have for serious bakers. This one works great. We recently moved and I could not find my original Taylor Classic oven thermometer after the move. I strongly suspected the temperature of the oven at the new house was quite a bit off. I ordered a new thermometer, and I am so happy I did. The oven I was using was running 50+ degrees higher than expected. With the thermometer I could adjust the temperature appropriately and my family didn’t have to eat overcooked/burnt food.

Great item for the price!
I had been using digital thermometers in my fridge & freezer, and the batteries never seemed to last very long so I picked up a pair of these "analog" thermometers a few months ago. I don't have anything to measure the accuracy, but the food in my fridge & freezer seem to have remained at the correct temps, and the thermometers have shown both compartments to be in the correct temperature zones. Nothing fancy about these, but if you're looking for a simple thermometer, you really can't beat these for the price.

Necessity for any baker
If you're baking anything other than boxed cake mix, you need this thermometer for your oven. I only realized how poorly calibrated my oven was when I started to venture into bread making. While I' not a professional baker by any definition, I do appreciate the control this thermometer provides. My oven was incorrect by 50 degrees F at some oven set temperatures! This little, inexpensive device can really help your baking game and I'd definitely recommend it for any baker.

My oven was too hot
I was wondering why my baked goods would come out with different results. So, I decided to purchase this Oven Thermometer, primarily to find out how good the thermal sensor, built into the oven, actually was. Come to find out, If I believe this one, the "oven sensor" is off by more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Now I don't wonder anymore, why my goods didn't come out right! I primarily bake all kinds of bread and it is essential to keep baking time and temperature at the value that is called for. In particular with bread, if it is too hot, the crust will become hard and not crunchy. Basically drying out the interior. The guessing is pretty much over, my recent breads came out just fine and delicious.

Accurate life changer
I was sick for almost a year and no doctor could figure out the issue. I bought this and found that my refrigerator and freezer were turned way down to dangerous levels. I had been eating bad food the whole time! With this thermometer I was able to tune my refrigerator/freezer to the correct settings. I was even able to find the areas that are way colder than the rest of the fridge. After 2 weeks, I finally feel like myself again! I tested this against another more expensive thermometer and the readings are in fact accurate. Thank you!!

Because burnt brownies are intolerable...
...I ordered a oven thermometer to check the actual temperature against my oven dial after the oven was repaired. (F'real, people still fix things in this disposable society. Amazing.) At first, I thought this was not working as it read exactly the same as the dial. However, going back and checking 10 minutes later, and it showed my oven was 40 degrees off, in the burnt brownie direction. (Actually, on two thermometers since I didn't trust this one after reading some reviews. I take my brownies seriously.) It's well made, sturdy, and arrived in immaculate ready to use condition. I noted no strong odors from paint on the dial baking at all during the first use, and it will ensure amazing brownies going forward.

I was a bit concerned that our older oven may not be accurate - which is a big deal for me as I enjoy cooking, especially baking
Living in a house with older appliances, I was a bit concerned that our older oven may not be accurate - which is a big deal for me as I enjoy cooking, especially baking, frequently, and have moved on to more complex recipes where temperature is more important. Took a few times to figure out the best placement in the oven, but we also compared it with a 2nd thermometer and it is absolutely accurate - turns out our oven is, in fact, about 10 degrees off from the digital display. Best placement is hanging from the top rack in the center of the oven, and we did crimp the hook a bit with pliers after figuring this out, as pulling the oven rack out too fast would make it fall. Very happy with this purchase, and recommend to anyone!
