I use this on a Harley Fat Bob, usually only during the winter when my battery doesn't seem to have enough cold cranking amps. Very simple to use. Plug it in, the light starts flashing green, when it's solid green I unplug it. I usually plug it in before bed and let it charge over night. Haven't noticed any issues with it at all. Says it's weather proof and I've had it out in the rain and snow and it indeed appears to be weather proof. I make sure I unplug it at least an hour before I plan to ride to properly let the battery cool down. Very happy with this purchase

I use this tender to maintain the battery in my Ski-Doo MXZ during the off-season. I really like that this model is waterproof and wall-mountable. I have it screwed to the wall in my garage, and using the Battery Tender brand 25' extension cord, have the sled's battery plugged in while it sits in the enclosed trailer. I like it this way because from my garage I have a 'status light' for the battery in my sled. I have the fused pigtail permanently mounted to the battery posts on the sled's battery so it can remain on the sled all year long, and I can just plug the charger right in when the sled is going to sit for a long period of time. This tender charged up the battery to capacity in just a few hours and has displayed a green light ever since. The sled kicks over with authority now more than ever before. It's nice peace of mind knowing that the battery is at capacity all the time. Great product!

I ordered this Battery Tender 800 waterproof charger a couple weeks ago and had installed it onto the battery of my mustang that sits for quite a while between starts and drives. Since the battery was at full charge it litterally took a very short time to go into storage mode and do what it was designed to do. Previous to this item I had the Battery Tender Jr that had failed after approx 6 months BUT, in Deltrons defense, I was using it between my jetski and my mustang. I knew it wasnt designed for outdoor use, especially here in the humidity of southwest Florida ( I did have the forementioned items under a carport and the item covered by the jetski seat or mustangs hood). I never blamed the Deltron company and never left a poor review as I was more to blame for using the wrong device for outside storing. I do also own the Battery Tender Plus and have used it inside my storage shed on my RV battery for about 1.5 years now with no problems at all. Though I have not given the BT800 enough time to write a thorough review I realize that thier prodects are above average for the price and wanted to share my overall experience in general with thier products. I can safely assume the BT800 will surpass its expectations as it was desinged as an outdoor product. My mustang does sit under a carport and the BT800 sits under a closed hood where it will never actually get rained on, come in direct sunlight, chemicals, or any type of water outside of humidity. So since its designed for this and even harsher conditions I feel assured it will give me years of practical use. I will come back periodically to update this review as time goes on. I would recommend any of the Deltron products to anyone who plans to use them in the way they were designed! ***update 2/1/15*** Unit still works perfectly under the stangs hood, keeps the battery charged perfectly so its ready to go when I decide to start or drive it. I still highly recommend this product for anyone needing to maintain a battery that is outdoors!

Deltran Battery Tender 12-Volt 800 milliamp Waterproof Battery Charger The Battery Tender Waterproof Tender operates in essentially 3 stages. It first initiates an absorption charge that attempts to charge your battery to 14.5 VDC at up to 0.8A (or 800mA). This bit of information was not readily advertised, so I was concerned when I heard my battery making gurgling noises while the LED was "amber" for the past 8 hours. This battery was only 2 years old with less than 5000 miles and had been maintained since day 1, so I was sure it wasn't a problem with the battery. It turns out that it was nothing to be concerned about since this charger was designed to be used for long-term storage of batteries. My previous charger, a Black & Decker / Vector 2A "smart" automatic maintainer tried to keep my battery voltage at 14.75 VDC at 2A for over 24 hours. Needless to say, I was concerned when I saw this happening with a brand new Battery Tender. I dug around on their website and discovered a PDF that indicated the Tender would try to reach 14.5 VDC for the absorption phase, at which point it would switch to a trickling charge and finally the maintenance charge. I logged all of the readings and confirmed that once the battery reached 14.4-14.5 VDC, it would start to trickle down finally remaining at about 13.12-13.22 VDC @ 20-100 mA. A modern car's parasitic draw is about 10-50 mA, so the maintenance charge is to compensate for the parasitic draw and for self-discharging of the battery. I discovered the Tender does a much better job at a maintenance charge because I have yet to see the Tender go into the Amber-LED mode, whereas my Vector/B&D occasionally switches back and forth even on a fully charged battery. I logged some data from the Vector/B&D and discovered that once the LED is green, it provides NO current to the battery. In essence, the Vector/B&D just shuts off once it reaches 14.5 VDC - which is not as useful as providing an actual maintenance charge. The Battery Tender wins. Quite a few people have commented that their Sears "smart/automatic" maintainer and other brands constantly switch between the Green and Amber modes. I suspect those chargers are doing the same thing as the Vector/B&D. They just shut off when the battery is "charged", which is not very good for the battery. It needs to hold a maintenance charge to prevent sulfation. The Tender Waterproof is fully encapsulated with a thermally conductive potting material. This makes the unit quite heavy for such a small device. It uses a quick-disconnect 2-terminal fitting that is commonly used for battery chargers/maintainers. It comes with ring terminals or large battery clamps all fused with a 7.5A ATC fuse. I made my own wiring harness with smaller alligator clips since I don't have room under the hood for large clamps, and I do not want to permanently install a set of ring terminals that can short out or cause other problems in the long-run. Pros: Battery Tender has an excellent reputation for making reliable chargers. The Waterproof unit is quite durable and is insulated from shock, water, corrosion, extreme temperatures and other environmental variables. Cons: At 800mA max current capacity, this charger will work rather slowly for 50Ah or larger capacity batteries, so expect 10-12 hours upon hooking it up to a battery before the LED turns green. The benefit of this is that it prevents boiling the battery or generating a lot of heat due to excessive current. Overall: If you're using the charger in an environment subject to cold or hot temperature swings with plenty of moisture, such as in a detached garage for your motorcycle, boat, stored vehicle, or even a daily driver, I highly recommend the Waterproof unit over the Tender Jr or Tender Plus. UPDATE: I decided to purchase an additional Battery Tender Waterproof because I needed another charger for my daily driver and because I experienced no problems with the first unit.

This seems perfect for my little boat which is only as good as the battery (garden tractor size). It is small, with a sealed construction, and rugged. I was impressed with the quality touch of the mounting screws being made of stainless steel so I did not even have to search for better hardware.. Most products come with the cheapest mount hardware. The manual is in clear English and not a partial translation from Chinese. I would prefer if it offered more technical details on the voltages of the charge profile. And information on its battery equalization/restoration function.

I wanted to buy a BT for maintaining an 850CCA battery in a pickup that is only driven occasionally. I shopped on the BT website, and this was recommended to me via online chat with one of their staff. I've only had it installed for two days, and, at first, I thought it was undersized, as it hadn't fully charged the battery in 24 hrs., but today, I see that it has... I think this will be a great solution for maintaining this battery...certainly economical, it's small in size, weather resistant...could be mounted permanently if desired.. Not a quick charger, but great for my purpose.

I have used their solar, a trickle and now I added the 800. Since I've used their products for a while and hadn't needed to purchase a recent one, I was concerned when on the initial connecting that I saw only a red light on the 800 charger showing. I decided to call Deltran because I wanted to make sure why with a low battery a red would be showing not yellow, for I'm used to seeing 3 lights (green means fully charged, yellow means needs charging, and red means drained). So Deltran explained they did away with the yellow light on the 800 model, so now all that shows is green light and red light. I know I have a low battery because I had to use my jumper on the battery, and being it's a secondary car the 800 seemed like a good choice. If I recall in the conversation I was told since a red light is showing to get it up to green light status it would take an 80 hr charge. So I'm going to gauge the days to see how quickly it comes back up. This being said I'm not working with a completely dead battery, just a low one. I wanted to express this in a review about the light difference on the 800 model. Hope this helps for all who didn't/don't know this information. Any Deltran battery charger is a good charger for me, and will be for you too :)

I have not had the opportunity to put it through all of its paces yet but I will this winter when I put my bike up. I have read a lot of good things and seen several videos about this charger. The video that convinced me was a fellow in Alaska taking his motor cycle out of storage for the winter and he had this charger on his bike for 6 months. He disconnected the battery charger and his bike fired right up. The Winter in my area of the Country does nowhere compare to Alaska winters so I am going with that but only time will tell.

This is my second battery tender 800. I had the first one installed in my first boat. I recently upgraded to a larger boat that has two batteries so I bought a second maintainer to match the first. I had my original boat with battery for over 10 years, always kept it the battery on this maintainer and never had an issue with the battery. I will always keep these units on hand for my boat batteries and I highly recommend them.

Another homerun from Deltran! I have been using Battery Tender brand float chargers for many years and have been very satisfied. Based on some of the reviews and questions posted, I’m not sure all folks have a complete understanding of the intended purpose of these chargers. This is not designed to be a primary charger that is used to recharge a dead battery. This is used to maintain a charge on a battery during times when a vehicle or piece of equipment will be idle. It can stay plugged in all of the time and will not over-charge the battery. I use this particular one on my utility trailer which has an on-board deep-cycle battery to power a winch as well as interior lighting. When the trailer is not in use, I rely on the Battery Tender to keep the battery at peak charge. Because the trailer is parked outside, I chose this unit which is moisture resistant. Folks often ask if it is waterproof—the short answer is “no.” It has an International Protection Marking of IP67 (6 = Dust tight and 7 = Protected against immersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes) and while it is certainly resistant to the elements (mine has been outside for almost eighteen months now) it would not be advisable to leave it where it is constantly wet or submerged. The charger comes with a harness with typical alligator clamps for temporary hookup as well as a harness with ring terminals for permanent installation. The harness is especially handy if the battery is not easily accessible—once it is installed, it stays with the vehicle and you only need to plug the charger into the harness. I highly recommend these chargers.
