Proven reliability...you won't be disappointed.
I rarely write reviews. I have 7 of these (SMART1500LCD) units powering small server/PoE switches at remote sites (HP ProLiant G8 1u + HP 1910 switches). I can absolutely attest to their reliability. Of the 7 UPS units, 2 of these were put into service in October 2013 and 2 in April 2014. Just 1 of my 7 units has failed, this week actually...so 4 years of 24x7x365 usage. In my situation, these units all provide power until the generators kick on...and they are all installed in areas where we experience 4-5 outages on average per year. I just purchased a replacement for the failed unit. I highly recommend these units.

GREAT TECH SUPPORT
I have to say that after a few calls to Tripp Lite the problem I was having with the downloaded software has been resolved! The software works perfectly now! The tech remotely took control of my computer and changed this and that to allow the software to correctly run. I am amazed at his patience with me! Now I am confident that, in a power failure, my computer, modem, and router will remain ON for a few minutes, giving me time to save my files, then shut off. I also like the feature: AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation), that will keep the voltage to my computer steady, since we are in the Summer months and our AC cycles on and off. Also the Tech Support is in Chicago, not foreign!!

Great UPS, the warranty is for 3 years
Great UPS, the warranty is for 3 years, so when I received it, I printed a p-touch label with a date of exactly 3 years in the future and stuck it to the back so I know when the warranty is up. I consider it the expiration date, at which point I will buy a new one. I've had a few brownouts and a power outage a few times since buying this, it kept my computer and both monitors, studio mixer, studio monitors, and subwoofer alive, with I believe at least 10 minutes of battery power, 15 or more if I recall. I like that the usb cable lets me see the battery life on my taskbar like on a laptop.

A cost effective solution for a shallow rack
I ordered this with the BP24V15RT2U battery pack for longer run time after power failure. Installation was simple and the battery pack is simple to connect to the main unit. I was pleased that the fan does not seem to be too loud, but it is louder than my PC's fans. The LCD display worked well at first, but after connecting the USB port to my Linux box only random segments get lit up in the same "scroll mode" timing that the display had when it was initially working. I don't know if this is a physical display failure, a display circuitry failure, or a firmware bug in the microprocessor controlling the display. I do not know if the display problem is something that would have happened anyway after 24 hours of operation, or if connecting and using the USB port had anything to do with it. I was able to show device status on my Linux box using the NUT (Network UPS Tools) software combined with knutclient to display status on my KDE desktop, so I am pleased with that. The USB port connection is used to do that in my case, and it shows on knutclient what I no longer see on the LCD display, which after only a little over 24 hrs of continuous operation is now showing only 1 or 2 random segments lit up. It is fortunate that before the display stopped working I was able to configure the device to indicate that it had an external battery attached and show estimated battery run times accordingly. Other than the LCD display issue, this looks like a cost effective solution for my shallow rack that yields a power failure run time of about 1 hour for my load. Update on June 10, 2012: The display is working again, without any action on my part (at least none that I am aware of). So at this point, I am updating my rating to 5 stars. Update on September 28, 2012: The display is currently working, but has stopped and started working a number of times during the months I have owned the unit. It does not appear to affect the function of the unit at all, since I always have been able to read out on my computer via the USB interface the same values I can't see on the display when it "stops working."

LIFE SAVER!
My battery was flickering out of very serious old age. I had an inherited an older APC model and since it did not have an LCD, I could not get any insight into it. At the same time, doing a battery swap would create significant downtime. Well it finally happened in the worst way (I asked for it) and that old battery died. Luckily these Tripp Lites were in stock and available for fast shipping. They are extremely easy to install and turn on. My loads were 24% and 33% so there's plenty more to go. But I will keep them low in order to have more life time. I used these for commercial use however if you have significant tech at home like a big home theater system or have servers at home, definitely get one of these. DO not rely on your home power. Have a back up plan always!

LCD crapped out - can't return to Amazon
Let me tell you - this unit works great, so I'll give it five stars. I can straight up watch TV off of satellite for six hours after the power goes out (it does that a lot here). Very happy with the performance, alarm silence feature is huge - especially since you can set it to mute all the time. Important because, as I said, the power goes out a lot here - sometimes during the middle of the night and I hate getting up to turn off alarms. Anyway, the unit works great, but the LCD has been twitchy ever since I got it - sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't . I would have returned it to Amazon as a defect but: WHOOPS! You can't return this unit to Amazon because it has batteries in it (?) and it's not worth dealing with the manufacturer. Since most people I know buy from Amazon because of their return policy, they should put this in, like, "BIG RED LETTERS: YOU CAN"T RETURN THIS TO AMAZON,CALL THIS NUMBER" at checkout or something. Also - be aware that this unit is force-cooled and can be a bit noisy, especially when charging or discharging. Not an issue for me but it might drive my wife nuts if it were in the bedroom or something.

Excellent features and performance
We bought this item early last year (2013) to replace an old unit of another brand after the battery started to die on it. I never bothered to write a review, but after reading some of the poor reviews here, I decided I should. We chose this unit because of the number of battery-protected outlets. Unlike every other battery backup I've seen, which have only half the outlets protected, this one has ONLY battery-protected outlets. We've had several outages during which we had to rely on this unit, and it's worked flawlessly every time. I notice that many of the poor reviews are fairly old, so it's possible that Tripp Lite has addressed some of the problems that those folks had. At any rate, I can recommend it.

Good product with great customer service
Everything is working fine. I was quite pleased that the applied labels on the back panel were in large type and in easy-read black and white (instead of being tiny molded black on black characters like so many products). The AC cord for the unit is massive, and plenty long enough to be useful. I like having the option of being able to use the unit in two configurations (tower or flat). For me, the tower option saves some valuable space. The sealed bezel just pops out and allows the user to rotate it to suit either the tower or flat configuration. The Power Alert Agent Console software (free from the Web site) is quite simple and doesn't seem to add much. The software agent is probably unnecessary for home users. One annoyance: the LCD display on my particular unit was cockeyed by a few degrees. This was a purely cosmetic problem, since the device was working perfectly. I put in a help request with Tripp Lite to see if there was way I might be able to repair it myself. They asked me to send them a photograph (which I have uploaded here). They responded the next to explain that they would be sending me a new unit to replace the cockeyed one. It arrived yesterday at no cost to me and I am now a tremendously pleased Tripp Lite customer.

Just Got It and It's Already Made a Save
It's already saved a print job for me! We had one of our semi-frequent power interrupts yesterday while my 3D printer was about half-finished with a job and the Tripp Lite kicked in seamlessly to allow the printer to continue. The printer didn't even notice the changeover. Normally the Tripp Lite is quiet as a mouse; during the power failure it emitted warning beeps but they weren't grossly loud. When house power returned the unit immediately went back to silent mode, and again the printer was clueless about the changeover. The instructions for the Tripp Lite say it can be placed horizontally or vertically, so I tried it horizontal first and easily swapped the position of the display screen, too. My table was getting a little warm from the underside of the unit, though, so I decided to use it vertically; it seems to run much cooler that way. So far this critter is a champ!

Perfect For Small Home Server Network
I bought the 1500VA (non expandable) unit to maintain two Ubuntu home servers during brownouts, short blackouts, and if necessary properly shut down the servers to protect the RAID array data. So far the unit performs as expected. My twin servers draw about 200W average load which gets me 20 minutes run time plus 3+ minutes reserve for shutdown. My only disappointment is in the software. Tripp Lite only provides power management software for Fedora and OpenSUSE Linux Distro's. However, I seem to have found a replacement with Gnome Power Manager which makes the Server think its got a laptop battery. However, there is a delayed response time when the critical battery level is reached and when the Server actually shuts down. For me, the ~30 second delay is no issue, but if your running 900W and only getting 3 minutes out of the UPS, then that could be a problem. I don't think this justifies docking stars as I'm a specific case, but I just want people to know who may find themselves in the same boat as me. Best, Austin
