I am ecstatic with this product. I got home form work the morning after it arrived with a migraine and decided to stay up just a little longer to get this on the window that gets the most sun, and is the one that makes my sleep the most difficult. I did not find the instructions until after I finished applying this tine to the 2nd (and last) pane (instructions are rolled up in the tint roll). Had no issues, I had watched my car get tinted and had the basics down pat. It is not as dark as it looks in the photo, probably about a 15% tint at a guess. But the difference this made to my sleep cave was phenomenal. If you are looking for black out tint - this is not the tint for you. But if you are just trying to decrease the light and heat, this tint is perfect. Let me reiterate - I put this on the window with a full blown migraine going and had never tinted a window before in my life and the tint came out great. You are going to need a soapy water bottle, a smoothing blade and a razor to install. I purchased the kit that is sold on Amazon because I was too lazy to round up everything but you don't have to buy the kit, you can use what you have on hand. Make sure you clean the window before application and have plenty of paper towels on hand to clean up after application you are going to have soapy water dripping from the window when you smooth the tint. Don't be stingy applying the soapy water prior to application, this makes it so the tint will stick and is easier to reposition as you are figuring out placement on the window.

I was nervous to put this on because I have slight OCD and if there were any edges or bubbles it was going to drive me insane. I cut it to the size of my window and went for it. I didn't use the solution, but water and soap instead. it was super easy! the soap and water made it easy to slide so there was no edges. I smoothed out all the water and bubbles with a smooth edge and it was done! it really tinted the window! My window however gets a ton of light and I like my room dark so I put another layer on top of the first. Again a super easy application and it made the window dark!! I can still see out of it during the day but it blocks enough light not to bother me!

This was easy to use and put up. I did use the recommended Spray to help with the adhering process. Make sure you clean your window both on the surface being used and the outside surface. With a clean surface and the recommended spray this way easy to put up. I used this on my son's window to help blow the sun from entering his room due to a medical condition. Our neighbors LOVE to have flashing lights that shine into his room and this really blocks out the light. LOOKING FROM OUTSIDE the window LOOKS totally blacked out - with a light on - however, you can see through some of it. I did double up on the bottom part of the window and that seems to have worked well. If anyway was considering doubling up the layers - I have had no issues. I would suggest that you cut the size a bit larger then needed - then once set let site for about 2 hours - then go back and cut to fit. Also I found that using the squeegee and pushing the liquid UP was easier then I would use a paper towel to just wipe across to collect the residue of the spray. I also was able to once dry - take a paper towel and wipe straight down from top to bottom and smooth out any left over bubbles or lines. I was hesitant with buying this product - I AM VERY SATISFIED. In fact from the outside you can NOT see the edges that I had to use to go over as the first time I cut too short. This is perfect for outside doors as well - it gives privacy and also helps with the UV Radiation from the Sun. I will be buying more in the future to do my son's other window. If you are comparison shopping THIS IS THE ONE TO GET. The length is much longer and you do not need to do as much cutting. The box was longer then expected and most come in the length of 1.5FT x 5.9FT this is MUCH LONGER at 3 FEET by 6.5 FEET - it is TWO of the other size boxes in length. This is a think material and easy to manipulate and even was fine when I had to remove it to put onto another window once dry. I have used other Gila products on my windows for decorative purpose and the quality will hold up and stand for years. Thank you for making a GREAT PRODUCT for my SON.

I purchased a privacy film from a different company, not only was it more expensive it was like a gray cellophane. It was extremely hard to work with, I followed the instructions to the letter and the finished product was less than ideal. I delayed my Gila project but was surprised when I saw the film, not chintzy cellophane and the application process was completely different; they gave options of using their solution or a homemade solution which can be found on their web site using baby shampoo and water which works fantastic. Make sure you have plenty of film, my biggest challenge was the cutting of the film because I have windows that are greater than 5' in length; have someone help to keep things "straight". When they say have plenty of razor blades for trimming they are not kidding; I used 3 on one window. Be patient, don't be in a hurry and you will be happy with the results. My chair is right next to this window and the difference this film made in heat reduction is remarkable.

First and foremost, this film is not as dark as what is shown in the description. Second, this is actually a good thing (for me) since my bedroom theater is now dark enough to use my 84" projector display without any added glare from the sun. (Any darker and it would be too depressing). In fact, when I first installed it, my girlfriend didn't readily notice. After waking up the following morning (post-installation), she asked me, "What time is it? Why does it feel so late in the day?" I responded... "It's only 11am 🤔." It wasn't until she roamed around the apartment several hours later when she finally realized I had 'tinted' the windows in my bedroom. That said... She actually thinks it's too dark. For my batcave, however, it's perfect 😎👌 Honestly... Any darker and you might as well get blackout window film (which was not something I wanted). With this film, I can still see what's going on outside my window in the daytime, with added privacy. It also proved to be the perfect dimming solution for viewing my HD projector display during the day time. To get a better idea of what it looks like... I'd say it feels like a dark storm is coming. Even though it's sunny outside, it forever feels cloudy inside. It's definitely enough to fool your senses into believing it's much later in the day than it really is.) Dawn feels like early dusk; sunrise will feel more like sunset. For me, this is perfect, not only for watching movies, but to also zone out and study for long hours without being distracted with wanting to go out to play in the sun. Application tips: 1) An old spray bottle with a few drops of dish detergent is all you need to make the film 'stick'. 2) Make sure you scrub and scrape your windows clean before applying the film. 3) Since I didn't have a squeegee, I used my dust pan (which had a rubber liner). Some say a credit card works, but I think something more squeegee like definitely will make your life easier and will help to smooth out the bubbles in one swipe. 3) I used a 'scraper' with a razor blade to scape the window clean, and used the same razor to trim the excess film after applying. 4) When you trim the excess, leave about 2-3 mm of excess; the window film will shrink a little after a day or so, so if you you trim too 'perfectly' you may windup with a small gap between the window film and the edge of the window. Honestly, the most important part of applying the film is to REALLY clean the window. Take time to clean the window frame as well, since ANY lingering dirt may seep between the film and the window -- causing it the bubble up. That said... I applied the film in the following steps: 1) Measured and cut the film to fit the window. (Didn't worry much about excess). 2) Scraped every inch of the window with a razor blade scraper. 3) Washed the window and trimming with mild soapy solution (w/dish detergent). 4) Scrapped again (for added measure). 5) Sprayed window excessively with mild soapy solution. 6) Squeegeed 7) Sprayed the window with the soapy solution again. 8) Applied the film. 9) Sprayed the film (on window) with soapy solution. 10) Sqeegeed to remove the bubbles. 11) Trimmed the excess with razor blade. *I also placed an old towel on the bottom of window to catch all the excess water. That's it! For the price, I couldn't be happier. Although I would give this 4.5 stars for the misleading darker tint Shown in the description, I'll give it 5, since it served my purpose perfectly. Any darker would probably cause clinical depression (for me). That said, if you think you need something darker... you can always try doubling up (by layering it), or trying the 'blackout' film. Hope this helps with your purchase decision. Peace & Love 😎✌️

I used this tint to cover two sliding glass door sets in my townhome. Each sheet is big enough to cover one door of the sliders, so I ended up buying four of these, total. Some tips I learned from doing this four times: 1. DON'T BUY THE INSTALLATION KIT. You simply don't need it. A spray bottle filled with water and with a few drops of dish soap in it will do nicely for the solution you need. I also purchased a 12" squeegee for a couple of bucks at my local grocery store. I used it for both cleaning and application. I've seen tips to use a credit card to get bubbles out. Why use 3" when you can use 12"? (that's what she said) 2. CLEAN THE GLASS REALLY WELL. If you have a razor blade (like from a box opener), use the edge of it to go along the glass and remove anything that might be stuck. You might not see that speck now, but you'll definitely see it once the film is applied. 3. MEASURE, MEASURE, AND THEN MEASURE AGAIN. When you have the measurements, subtract that from the dimensions of the film. That will be the amount you need to take off from the length and from the width. It's easier to measure and mark what you DON'T need, than to measure what you do. Depending on how much you trust your measurements, add an extra 1/8-1/4" on each measurement. 4. DON'T USE A RAZOR BLADE TO MAKE THE INITIAL CUTS. You'll just end up frustrated, and possibly cause snags and rough spots on that edge. The film is fairly thick and you'd need a really sharp razor to make a clean cut. Instead, use scissors to trim the excess. After I made my measurements, I marked a line with a sharpie and straight edge, and just followed that when I cut it. Much easier. 5. SET YOUR UNCUT EDGES AT THE TOP AND SIDE. That will leave you just one side and the bottom to have to trim, if needed. As you begin to squeegee the bubbles out, keep an eye on the top. It will tend to slide down just a bit because it's riding on the slick application fluid. I didn't have a helper, and I don't think it's needed, but if you have someone to hold the top in place, it probably wouldn't hurt. 6. LET IT SIT. Before you get all excited and start trimming to finish the job, let it sit for a few hours. This will allow you to see if the film moves at all and make those adjustments. Mine didn't move, but you never know. Waiting also allows the film to "adhere" to the glass better. 7. USE A SHARP RAZOR TO FINISH. If I were to do it over, I'd get an exacto knife to make that final trim. I used a box cutter, and it worked, but I think the exacto would allow better dexterity when making the final trim. You also may find that you don't need to trim it at all, and can just tuck it in place using a straight edge. Definitely use that straight edge to hold the film down and also guide the razor when making the final trim. And that's about it. A few final comments about this. From the outside, the film is dark and you can't see anything inside during the day. I've even turned on all my lights and stood outside, and still couldn't see anything unless I got right up on the window and cupped my hands by my eyes. The black of the film makes the reflection of the glass more prominent and that's all you see. You looking back at yourself. At night, you're able to see in, but it's still darkened. From the inside, depending on how sunny it is, it just looks kind of like an overcast day with a slight sienna tint. Overall, very happy with the results, and I can't wait to see how it performs this summer in the Florida heat.

This is actually the second roll of this tint that I am buying. The first roll I bought I installed on my guest bedroom window back in 2014, and it is still on there today and looks as good as the day I installed it. This roll is on one of my master bedroom windows, and the quality is as good as it was 5 years ago. It is easy to install and clean and as I have already explained it is great quality tint. It has just the right amount of privacy for my needs. I would also like to note that I bought this from Amazon Warehouse as used - very good, and the tint was in excellent condition, and the instructions were included. So don't hesitate to buy it used either. This isn't completely blackout tint, but it works great if you have a window that gets too much sun during the day.

This is my second time using Gila films. The first time using it this dark. The first one I installed on my windows 2 years ago and it hold like new. So naturally I hope this one will deliver the same. As far as installation goes, it is easy, just clean , spray, stick and squeeze the air out. Well, almost, also you need to have patience and take your time, and if is not right. Just do it again, no big deal. I used the solution kit from Gila also. And I saw some reviews talking about just using water and soap. But still, the solution kit comes with a handy cutter, perfect for straight lines arround the edges, without damaging the window rubber gasket. All in all, I will resort to this product whenever I will need it again.

These window darkening sheets are amazing. I've used this brand before and it really helps control the temperature in the room they are applied in. These are thicker than the last set I had used, so they were a tad harder to cut, but doable. You should use two people to do this. I cleaned windows with water mixed with a little rubbing alcohol, vinegar & baking soda. I sprayed the window again with the mixture, then put them up on each window with the backing on at first. Used a razor to cut to size, a 3 inch wide plastic putty knife to smooth out bubbles from top to bottom, wiping excess liquid from bottom of window. Carefully bent top corner while holding other side down, slowly removing the white backing. Another pass with the putty knife for excess bubbles/liquid and it was done. Immediately noticed improved temperature in room by about 10 - 15 degrees. I will be doing the rest of the windows in the house next. If you live in a hot area like me (the Central Valley in California), You will appreciate these immensly. Our cooling bills will really be lowered with these on all of our windows. I hope this review helps some of you who are not really sure how to do this.

My new home is full of south and west facing windows. While the sunlight is wonderful it was making the house very warm and I was concerned about it fading curtains and furniture. After much research I decided that this film would be our best choice as it would not only block the UV light but also provide some heat control. As an added bonus they also have provided us with some added privacy. In the attached photo the film is already on the oval window in the door and the side windows, The upper transom and the upper arched window are plain - they have not had the film applied yet. You can see the difference in the amount of light coming into the windows. The film is very easy to install if you have measured correctly and have a very sharp blade. Installing this film was time consuming and tedious, but it was not difficult. Using sharp scissors I cut the film (backing still attached) slightly bigger than the windows and then trimmed the film to size directly on the window using a razor blade. I covered all the windows in my home and went through several blades in the process. I can't stress enough how important sharp blades are as the film would start to tear on me with a dull blade. I did not purchase an installation kit, but used plenty of window cleaner and a square kitchen gizmo designed to scrape pans. I did install all of them alone, but if you have larger or high windows I would recommend having help to hold the film in place as you smooth it onto the window. Once the film was installed in the first room, we measured the window temperature using a point and shoot temperature gun. There was a 15 degree difference between the windows with film and without. That is what convinced us to do the entire house. This is a new home to us, so I can't say how much we saved compared to previous years but the house felt considerable cooler over the summer. The pros are the temperature reduction, UV protection and privacy (you can see out but it's very hard to see much more than outline when looking in). The cons are a loss of that sunny light bright look - which could probably be altered if you chose a different level, we chose black. Overall I would recommend this to someone looking for heat control film, just prepare well and you will be fine.
