I needed a 18" light fixture to hold my UV bulb for my bearded dragon's (lizard) habitat. It worked perfectly. Despite the fixture's plastic body (which I preferred as it was more light weight and easier to mount) it's build quality is just fine. It has 2 sets of mounting holes allowing it to be mounted on the wall or ceiling. For those interested in using this fixture for their reptile, and are using a glass vivarium, I recommend mounting it with 2 or 3 3M all weather velcro-style strips ( [...]). These worked perfectly for me. I also used a Zoo Med Reptisun 10.0 18" UV bulb ( [...] ). Zoo Med has great bulbs but I find their light fixtures and other accessories very cheaply made. This fixture is 10x better than Zoo Med's own fixture and it's cheaper. You'll want to mount the fixture inside the vivarium, but out of reach of your reptile. Having UV bulbs sitting on top of screens can block a significant portion of your UV light. For the same reason, you'll want to forgo using the included light cover with this fixture.

I ordered two of these to put inside my bearded dragon enclosures with their UVB lights. These are perfect. The price is what I was hoping for as well. I used some Velcro to attach them to the enclosure and then removed the protective cover for the light. I also replaced the bulbs with UVB bulbs. I am glad that I did not need these for what they are technically intended for because one bulb was broken. Not an issue for me because I was not using the provided bulbs but if you are – make sure it is not broken. In the future, if I need another fixture, I will be buying this again. I might grab another one to put in my 75 gallon tank to provide extra light and extra UVB for my reptiles.

I purchased this to put a light under my cabinet. It is very bright and lights my counter up very well. I do not need to turn on the big kitchen light whenever I am working at the counter. There is no shadow from the light. We usually keep this light on in the kitchen during the night, because family members are always getting up in the night to get a drink or snack from the refer and with the light on, they don't have to turn on the big light. The bulb is fluorescent, so it doesn't run the electric bill up that much. I am very happy with the light and will purchase it again when needed. Also, the price from Amazon was half price compared to Lowe's and Home Depot.

I purchased three of these for starting seeds indoors and for lights for plants that are already growing. Some of my windows do not have enough light coming in for plants or to start seeds. I have two 10 gallon fish tanks that were given to me that I placed pots inside to start seeds. The fish tanks were pre-owned and did not come with lights. Lights for fish tanks cost too much. I was looking for a lower cost lighting solution. When I purchased these the price was lower, now I see they cost more. I had two pieces of scrap wood that I mounted the lights on and placed the lights over the fish tanks. The third light, I mounted on the ceiling of my basement which is over a shelf with some plants on the top shelf. The lights provide enough light for three plants in quart pots. The other two lights over the fish tanks, a couple of pots with seeds have sprouted and they are two inch high seedlings as of this review. The only complaint I have is how the lights mount. They have holes that you place on the screws, then you push the screws into slots. The screws that come with are a little too small for the holes and slots. The light mounted on the ceiling sometimes pops off the slots when I turn the light on or off. The other two lights I have plugged into a power switch, I turn of the power strip to turn off the lights. After the lights are mounted, I would recommend that you support the light with your hand when turning off and on. I have many spare screws and I could not find the right size screw, they were either too big or two small for the holes and slots. The other complaint is the price, when I purchased these they were under $9 for each one. I was thinking of buying more, I will not buy anymore for the increased price.

Used this to replace the old fixture in the terrarium setup for our bearded dragons. Worked out great. The ballast is an instant on type so you don't have to worry about holding the switch down a second or two when turning on, which is nice. Works exactly as expected. Also has numerous mounting options so making it work for your application should be no problem

Got this to go under a cart so I could put all of my African Violets on it. Works great.

I wanted an electic light to put under the cabinets so I wouldn't have to deal with changing batteries. The florescent lamp is easy to change, should it break, but is well protected otherwise. The light isn't as harsh as LED's, which is what I prefer for indoor lighting. This one went in the kitchen and took care of the dark corner over the appliances. The unit is slim enough to be discreet once installed. It doesn't have a remote, nor will multiple units daisychain easily. But if you just need one or two under cabinet lights and don't want to spend money on features you're unlikely to use, this might be just the ticket. RECOMMENDED

I have four of these. I bought the first one because I have tortoise who needs his UV bulbs changed every 6 months- so I have a pile of UV bulbs that still light (But dont give off enough UV for a tortoise) that fit into this fixture.....I also had a dark counter under a cabinet...2 birds, One stone-- now I'm getting some use out of my tortoises old bulbs and my counter is lit. Then, the tortoise fixture died....So, I bought another of these to install in his enclosure. It's been there about 1-1/2 to 2 years and works great. (I took the plastic shade off for the tortoise's). It gets a ton of use because it's on a timer. Then I got 2 more to light up some shelves for my plants-- Also super. This is great-- I'm using the old spent tortoise UV bulbs that are fine for giving light, and have found great uses for these little fixtures- I may get more! I don't understand what ppl are complaining about, saying theyre flimsy and they're plastic-- Are you kidding me? You spent 8 bucks!!! What do you want?!?I I'm really happy with mine.

I bought this because the 18" fluorescent tube in my existing fixture died. After looking at pricing for just the 18" fluorescent tube, it became readily apparent that it was much cheaper to buy a whole new fixture, bulb included! Go figure. When I got this I popped off the translucent cover, removed the bulb, installed the bulb in my existing fixture, put the cover back on my existing fixture, flipped the power on, and voila' - let there be light once again! BTW, the new fixture-sans-bulb is sitting on my storeroom shelf. I would have preferred to go LED, but replacement 18" LED tubes are hard to find, not to mention expensive.

Great light and give a nice warm light under a cabinet or a desk! Cord plugs in to wall socket (nice no wiring needed). Switch is on the left side of the light for easy on and off. This light makes no sound when on or off. Was worried about buzzing sounds. Light does not flicker but instant on and bright. Just 2 small screws hold the light on to the surface. You get the screws started into the surface (wood cabinet or where ever) then slide the light on for the last bit of tightening. It has sliding screw slots on the housing of the light fixture. Light is snug to surface once screws are tight. White lens easily pops off and on to the light fixture. Bulb is typical size easily found in hardware store and not proprietary.
