No More sharp edges
This can opener safely opens cans with SUBSTANTIALLY less effort by one's hands. Since it slices through the top seal of the can from the side, rather than the top, it leaves no sharp edges; it just releases the top layer. This makes a big difference in how the emptied can can be treated for recycling, etc. I got this can opener after a more traditional one I had failed. It does taking a bit of retraining to get used to, but the indentations on the top of the tool around the turning knob are good for orienting. After reading through quite a few reviews beforehand, I am very glad this device is now part of my kitchen tools.

Amazing can opener well worth the price
I have used traditional style, smooth cut style and wall mounted automatic can openers and this has been by far my favorite. I bought this to replace an older can opener and I'm glad I did. The handle is very easy to hold and turn and it cuts so easily I sometimes have to look down to make sure I'm actually cutting the lid. I thought the little "clamp" system for removing lids was a little silly at first as I always just removed them by hand but I enjoy using it and it does make it easier. Very easy to use, easy to hold and operate and it does not take up a lot of room.

This style of cutting is really much better than the standard / traditional sort
This style of cutting is really much better than the standard / traditional sort. The cut lid has NO sharp edges, nor does the can. I first bought one of these by mistake nearly twenty years ago ( I guess ), and I've never gone back. Why would I? This is only the second one I've purchased in that 20 years. I'd still have the first one but I broke it. I won't tell you how I did that. It's embarrassingly stupid.

Highly recommended!
This is the third can opener with a safe edge design I've owned, and this one is by far the best one! If you've never used an opener of this design before, it does take some getting used to because it attaches a little differently to the top of the can than the traditional ones. But I love how this type of can opener doesn't create razor sharp edges that pose a cutting risk. Plus, you can push the lid back on if you've only partly used up the contents of the can and store it in the fridge (the lid doesn't seal super tight though, so avoid shaking or leaning the can).

Good quality tool, and the new way to open cans!
This can opener is very good quality, and despite being mostly plastic, its thick and sturdy. Plus with the side-cut opening, there is far less force applied to blades and handles. I've had this one for 5+ years and no hint of it getting any less able to open cans. Regarding the side-cut can opening method: No more opening cans the old stupid way. I'm so glad someone invented this new can opener technology. It cuts from the side of the lip and leaves no sharp edges and lets you put the lid back on top (doesn't seal perfectly again obviously, but its decent and convenient and better than nothing). Some can's I've noticed have a recessed lip maybe 1-2mm in from the edge. This opener can still open them, but you have to hold tightly since the opener basically has to force itself to the can edge and slightly dent the can all the way around. Not sure if there have been advancements made for that very minor and uncommon frequency. Otherwise this is a great can opener I can't recommend enough

Best can opener I used
My old school can opener, the one where you open and lift up the top leaving a sharp edge. finally rusted. I was shopping looking around and debating where I should stick with the traditional opener, electric, or this type. After reading many different reviews, I decided to give this one a try and was glad I did. I was almost discourage by some of the negative reviews. Since none of the can opener receive higher than 4 stars in which this is the one with the highest reviews. Anyways, not sure why people gave negative review on this? Are they not able to figure out how to use this thing? It's quite simple, clean cut, and no sharp edges.

Best can opener I've owned
I have a thing about can openers. Such an essential kitchen item must be easy to use, stand up to wear, and look good. In the last several years I moved from conventional can openers to safety can openers, which I love. Unfortunately the first two safety can openers both failed for different reasons. The first was cheap and eventually broke. The last was a wildly expensive German-made can opener that was beautifully made, a joy to hold, but started dulling after a year or two. Half the time it worked; the other half it failed. Convinced a better can opener must be out there, I heard about this one from Kuhn Rikon, a Swiss company whose products I like. Sure enough, this model is my dream can-opener. My only minor complaint is the top mounted handle, which is a little awkward to use. The high-priced German can opener I owned previously sported an easy to use side handle. When it worked it was a pleasure to use. Sadly, as I said, after a year or two the can opener failed to open 50% of the cans I tried. The other big plus with the Kuhn Rikon is the built-in lid grabber. One push of a button and the two little pinchers grab the cut label and remove it from the can. At first I thought this feature was a joke, but now I must admit its true usefulness. Overall, the Kuhn Rikon is a winner (and under $20, too).

Nice can opener.
I used to have an opener by Pampered Chef but it started losing its ability to grip the can and make it turn. So I was in need of a reply. I didn’t want to have to find a new Pampered Chef person and have all the pressure to hold a party or whatever. I’m glad I found this can opener! Works great, plenty sharp, has a good little lid lifter claw and I would say my only beef is that the plastic parts look great but make it kind of bulky to fit in my small kitchen drawer.

I recommend this side cutting can opener
I had a $5.00 side cutter that quit working after 1 year. My daughter told me about the Rikon brand can opener, with which she is very happy. I didn't get the fancier one that she has. This one is a nice size to grip, which makes it easier for me to use. I am very happy with it. I would only appreciate if it were just a little easier to turn. While it is not really hard. My muscles are just not cooperating with me. So, the easier the better.

Best Can Opener I've Ever Had.
Very comfortable to grip. Easy to turn handle. No sharp edges on opened can or it's top. Don't even have to clean it because the blades never touch the contents of the can.
