Danco 89171 Shut-Off Valve.
This valve is well made of heavy duty materials. It came in a plain white box, not retail packaging. What people are calling a set screw is a roll pin in the one I purchased. It's sole purpose is to keep the control handle in place. There is a thick rubber washer between it and the shower arm. The way it is assembled, there is not much chance of the roll pin coming out. It is covered by the rubber washer and the shower arm mates right over the washer covered roll pin. It doesn't really require thread sealing tape but it was already on my shower arm so I didn't remove it. No tools were necessary to connect it to the shower arm. I did use a wrench on the shower head and the valve to connect them. The slight designed-in trickle reminds you to turn off the main shower valve at the end of your shower. With a lower water supply pressure you may not have the trickle, my water supply pressure is 100 PSI so the trickle is present. Water flow can be regulated from the slight trickle to full flow. The pressure on my water lines is 100 PSI so I get a strong flow through the valve and I removed the water flow restrictions from my shower head. I take Navy showers, get wet, water off, lather up, water on and rinse. This valve allows that without resetting the temperature on the mail shower valve. This is a much better design than the two lower priced valves that Danco manufacturers. The price on Amazon is a little less than other places. I highly recommend this valve for anyone who has a main shower valve that doesn't allow flow control.

VERY surprised this works as well as it does
I got this because our shower has no volume adjuster and my wife likes to turn the water way down when soaping up. Rather than replace the water control, I searched for something to do that in line. Other reviewers said that this worked well for that so I bought it. When I got it I was initially impressed by the quality of the materials, but then looking at it I very nearly didn't even install it I was so disappointed in looking at the opening. I was sure that it would be too restrictive of the water flow and would severely restrict my water pressure. Since I already had it here, I decided to try it out before stupidly just sending it back, and it works perfectly. Glad I decided to do that.

Customize your showering experience and conserve water at the same time with this device.
Since shower faucets no longer come with flow controls, installing this valve inline with the shower head restores that ability. Once again, you can reduce the flow while you're shampooing your hair, and turn up the flow to rinse it. Turn down the flow to rinse the beach sand off your sunburned body instead of feeling like your sunburned skin is being sandblasted. It's an easy way to adjust your water conservation without installing permanent flow restrictors.

Works as designed
My plumber installed a new Moen valve in my bath/shower, replacing my 35 year old Delta. He failed to inform me the Moen valve did not regulate the intensity of the flow - but only the mix of hot/cold. Therefore I ordered this Danco to fit up by the shower head so when I soap down I can turn the water down, saving consumption. I am happy to report it works perfectly and unlike some of the evaluations it does indeed shut the water completely off if one so chooses by positioning the valve perpendicular. An added bonus is that the valve, with the aid of a small amount of teflon tape placed on the threads, does not leak even a tiny bit. It is substantial in weight as well. I would recommend this product to others.

Wow 4 sure 4 sure
The part was listed as delivered by the delivery service, on 12/31. Trying to contact someone with Amazon I received a full refund for that part I ordered. I received the part ordered today by the postman, on 1/2. I feel in debt to Amazon, but so needed that part, a water valve, as I do laugh,,,,,what service they did render, kind to others, Amazon amazing. Living in Southern California the service incredible when I think of some of my purchases.. They showed me how they value my business. I doubt if anyone human even looked at that transaction. I got the part I needed, late, but happy to have it now and free from Amazon. A friend of mine down Texas way told me he had read that Amazon was processing like kind transactions. I did not think that was going to happen for me. I since found that part a bit more difficult to find and the price has increased. I have been an Amazon customer and I am sure I will continue.I want to be honest with companies that are like kind.

Works Great
I was pushed to try to save water by our city changing sewer billing to be based on how much water we use during the winter months. I found some very expensive shut off valves, some around a hundred dollars, so I was a bit skeptical about a $10 valve doing a good job. But I'm cheap so I decided to order it anyway. At least I didn't stoop to ordering a plastic valve to save another $6 bucks. :-) It's easy to install, it only takes a minute. Nothing to assemble, just unscrew the shower head and screw the valve on, then screw the shower head back on. You do need to wrap the threaded part of the pipe with some teflon plumber's tape just to keep the connections from leaking when it's off and under pressure. It does extend your shower head down a couple inches which is a problem for me being tall. I've had to learn to bend my knees a little when I stick my head under to rinse my hair. Other than that, I love it. I used to just stand under hot running water for at least 10 minutes each shower while I lathered hair, conditioned hair, shaved pits and legs, lathered up, etc. I'm sure I'm saving a lot of water each day, and as a side benefit, I'm out of the bathroom at least 5 minutes quicker as I don't find myself compelled to dawdle under that oh so warm and hypnotizing blast of comforting water.

EXCELLENT !
I swear if you have had half the problems with plumbing in your bathroom as I have for the past 4 yrs. then you owe it to yourself to purchase this shut off valve. It's so affordable, I almost went with another valve, at twice the price as this one. It works perfectly and so easy to install. I didn't even need the instructions. It was that easy. And the best part is, it stopped the leak from the shower head. So now I can take a hot bath without water spraying all over me, the floor and shower wall. After 4 yrs. in a 60 yr. old house, it is worth it's weight in gold. I was mad for 4 yrs. at my landlords, they don't do much for me when it comes to fixtures for this house, if I want it, I pay for it. This time I didn't mind at all. Thanks Amazon !

I like to turn the volume down when I'm soaping up
It does what it's supposed to do on shower heads. Most temperature balanced shower controls nowadays do not control the water volume. I like to turn the volume down when I'm soaping up, or when I'm just sitting there for a long period of time and don't want to waste lots of water. So you install this behind the shower head with a little teflon tape, and adjust the volume to your liking. Problems solved! I don't think it's a complete shut-off valve for other plumbing fixtures, or for permanently turning off your shower head, as it may leak. That's not the point--you use it for volume control only.

Great for the money
I bought this valve to save hot water. I have a high flow shower head and after one shower we were running out of hot water. You can buy a low flow shower head really cheap and if I remember correctly for about ten dollars. I wanted to be able to turn down the flow for most of the shower but have the high flow for final rinse. This valve works great for that. You can't find one of these any cheaper any where else and the fact of it is their about fourty plus every where else. This works great for what I needed it for. Now the whole family can take a hot shower one after the other. Like in other reviews I have the same problem with the valve not shutting off all the way. It does drip a little water while shut off. This doese not bother me any because I'm still saving water. I could see how this would be a problem for some one with multiple shower heads their trying to control. Shipping was increadibly fast and it arrived as described.

Takes Shower from Good to Great
We installed this flow control valve ahead of a new Aqua Elegante shower head. The combination exceeds all our expectations. We agree with the reviews that are excellent and numerous. They are right. We especially appreciated the instructions on how to remove the flow restrictor from the shower head, and followed them. This in-line flow control valve upstream makes an unbeatable combination. We also appreciated the roll of plumber's tape with the shower head to help with the installation. Heartily recommend both without without reservation. My wife loves the flow options. What insanity prompted the shower head manufacturers to drop an included flow control and go to a one-size misfits all shower head? The government regulations are dumb but this is dumber still. Love the flow-controlled shower head.
