I researched a couple of telescoping ladder products and found the Xtend & Climb 780p to be a perfect choice. The measurements were conflicting on the Amazon website so I will give a definitive measurement. If you were to build a storage container it would fit inside of 4.75x19.75x32". The 4.75x19.75" measurement is at the base...at the top it tapers to 18 1/8x 3 1/8". It comes with a velcro strap that keeps the ladder compacted while transporting it. Built into the strap is a padded base that creates a natural holding position while transporting. The measurement from where your hand cusps the handle to the top of the ladder(which would be under your armpit) is 15". So someone with a shorter arm could easily carry this ladder. It's build sturdy and it weighs 29.6lbs. Extended it feels stable and well built. Time will tell on how it holds up. The other aspect of the past reviews seems a little murky on how the telescoping feature works so I will try to paint the perfect picture...One note: The older version of this design must have been a finger pincher, However this design is brilliant. It has a fail-safe design that when retracting the ladder it only retracts the selected segment 5"(each rung spacing is 12" extended) Selecting the next lower segment retracts the previous segment the final 7" and retracts the selected segment 5". This design keeps the compacting segments(the pincher) 7" away from your hands! In order to retract a segment you have to have both hands on each side of the ladder, with your thumbs horizontal contacting a safety latch. A simultaneous pushing action with your thumbs allows the segments to retract. The tolerance of the retracting tube design creates air pressure that deflects the weight of the retraction...a great design! Another note the other reviews don't cover is that the first rung is a fixed 6" above the ground. This enables you to put your foot under the rung while positioning the ladder on the ground (while the ladder is not fully extended... you will figure this out sooner or later). And another note is that it's very difficult to retract the ladder in a horizontal position (and I would not recommend it since you really don't want to get the segments dirty or filled with abrasive grit since this will diminish the retraction design). With this in mind it would be a good idea to keep it covered when not in use.

None of the big box stores carried these, much less in different lengths, so it was great being able to order here on Amazon. Working in my attic crawlspace through a 22"x32" access hatch requires getting my 6 foot step ladder from the garage, packing it up two flights, then stepping off the very top of the ladder in order to climb into the attic space. Not safe at all to utilize a ladder in this manner, so now, I can get a chair, step up and remove the drywall cutout and use this extend-a-ladder in order to climb safely up through the access point onto the ceiling joists. I no longer need to trek up and down the stairs to the garage because I can store this ladder in a closet. Another nice thing is it I need an indoor extension type ladder, this works tons better than leaning a collapsed step ladder against the wall. Makes helping someone else out a lot easier when I can store this safely inside behind the seats without fear someone will steal my ladder when in the bed of my truck.

First, I will note, I purchased this, but returned it today, but ONLY because it was bigger than I anticipated. I opted to order the 10.5 Xtend & Climb, also here on Amazon, so I stuck with the same maker. I have a RV trailer and will use this during our outings. It's packed well and the directions are clear. This 12.5' is weighty at 32 lbs, but a good aspect to it is that it will hold up to 300 lbs. I always error on the side of caution. Better to have the added weight capacity if you're weight is closer to the 225 lb capacity of the smaller Type II Xtend & Climbs. Also, keep in mind, if you plan to carry any weight up it. My friend and I extended it to the full 12.5', fairly easy enough. I found the best way to do this is start with the top rung of course. What I like about this ladder compared to other telescoping ladders is that this ladder; LOCKS AT EACH INDIVIDUAL RUNG. Thus, you have a safety feature that locks the ladder every 12". Extending was easy, and as the green locking levers slid into the locking position, I could hear a distinct "click" as each section locked. If you go the full 12.5', lowering it can be some work, but because the way the retraction works, the fear of smashing your hand goes away. I'm going to get this out of order, but you'll get the gist. When lowering, you start from the bottom. As you unlock the slides on a rung, at times, the rung will full retract, but others, it will only 1/2 retract. This is NOT a defect. It's a safety feature. The next rung that half retracts, won't fully retract, until you retract the rung above it. This is genius as you don't pinch your hand or finger when lowering. This fit in the back seating area of my truck easily and in the bed. There is velcro strap that encompasses the entire rungs when closed, and has a nice soft padded handle under the last rung, right where you would pick it up to carry it. All in all, I'm impressed. My 10.5" arrived today, and I will trial it and leave a review. I recommend this ladder.

This ladder is ingenious, especially for smaller spaces. Very useful indoors and out. Compact, sturdy, and convenient. It won't accomplish all that a full extension ladder can, but for all of those intermediate jobs, it's perfect: easy to carry, easy to set up, and easy to store. Wish I had been able to buy one of these years ago. Only caveat: be sure to follow the directions carefully and practice setting it up to avoid any collapses or pinched fingers.

Purchased this ladder after buying a house and needing a longer ladder to get on the roof. Inspector came over with this ladder and it just seemed so simple and nice. Been great to have, though did take a few uses to break-in the sliding action so it was nice and butter smooth. Ended up with a (small) chimney fire (previous owners apparently burned a lot of garbage) so I set my ladder up while the fire department was on the way over in effort to save a few moments of time. Got a lot of compliments from the firemen about the ladder after they used it. Great size, easy to use, and really manageable. Only downside is that even when collapsed it's a little large for my fiance (5ft tall) to get her arm around the top in order to carry under her armpit. I think it's still easier for her to carry than a "normal" 15ft ladder so it's still a boon.

This ladder is awesome! Feels very sturdy. Has rubber feet that grip the ground. I weigh about 180 and it wobbles a little when I'm near the top but I never felt like I was going to tip over. Extending the ladder is simple simply pick up each step and raise it to your desired height. Collapsing is easy also. Each step has 2 tabs that you slide inward to lower the steps one at a time. If you use one hand to lower the ladder and the other to move the tabs you will never have to worry about pinching skin or smashing fingers. We have a car and a larger SUV but even in our large SUV I have to put the seats down to fit an 8ft ladder in there. With this I can simply lay it either in the floor board of the back seat or the truck without any issues. It's great! We live in a one story house and this 12.5 ft ladder is tall enough to get up on the roof but I would prefer a few more feet. However for the price this is hard to beat!

I LOVE this ladder! But I have a suggestion for men that "don't need to read instructions because they're only written for ppl that can't figure things out", let your wife read the instructions and show you how to use this ladder. I am a 60 yr old mother of all sons and grandsons. They are all of superior intelligence so they do not need to read directions for anything, ever. So, while I was sitting reading directions and looking at the useful diagrams, my husband attested to "figure it out". He walked away with both index fingers bleeding and mumbling something I couldn't quite hear. As I continue to read, my adult son made his attempt, he now has a profusely bleeding tip of a finger . After I finished my reading I went to the ladder. I extended it fully, climbed to the top where I felt completely safe because it's not wobbly at all (I'm 160lb) then I lowered the ladder, strapped it up and carried it to it's new spot in MY storage room. All of this was done with zero bleeding and zero pain. If you need a ladder I highly recommend this one, I also highly recommend reading instructions first LOL

Love it. We have some overhead storage in an upstairs bedroom and craft room. The storage is tucked under the roof in areas that are vaulted in the actual rooms, so they are high (8’ in bedroom, and 9.5’ in craft room) so they can only be reached by a ladder. Both rooms are smaller, so there is no room to store a typical ladder of any style. The rooms are also upstairs, so lugging a ladder up there every time was a hassle and I ended up dinging the walls multiple times. I considered one of these extendable ladders for over two years, but just couldn’t bring myself to buy one because of the high price. I am so glad I finally did! After reading many reviews, I decided to go with the name-brand one, and not one of the imitators, despite the higher price. I couldn’t be more satisfied. It is sturdy, and even after much use it opens and closes with no problem. Afterwards, I collapse it down and can easily store it in the bedroom closet. It has made using the storage areas easy, instead of a chore. I’m not an industrial user, obviously, so I can’t say how it would hold up in daily use, but the materials and workmanship seem first class.

I am a firefighter and very particular about the quality of the ladders I use. I researched this ladder for my personal use at home, and was not disappointed when it arrived. High quality construction and very stable when extended. The "feet" are stable and very well designed with no slip grip. I would agree with the caution labels that you need to be careful with pinch points when retracting (or lowering) the ladder. I like this product for easy access around the house for changing light bulbs and smoke detector batteries. No need to drag the big extension ladder in any more. Not cheap... but worth the cost.

Okay I bought this ladder primarily for my RV but I have found one particular use that has made it worth its weight in gold. I am a firefighter, and maybe a bit nuts, but when doing my Christmas lights on the peak of my roof I would basically hang half way over the second story roofline to staple my lights to the facia. With this ladder I can put it on the first story roofline that has a decent slope and just climb up and staple that same string of light in what took me 30 minutes and fairly risky down to 5 minutes. The base has nobs on it and it is also angled so it sits great on the pitched roof. I'm sure the mfg wouldn't recommend this but what's life without some risk. By the way it also works great the usual way!!!
