This game is a faithful recreation of the arcade down to the enemy AI. That was always my gripe about home mortal kombats back in the day, your old techniques didn't work. Graphics are as good as it can be on a low res small screen, but still good. Sound is disappointing with headphones, due to over compression of voices/music. Never played the arcade one with headphones, so it may have been the same way there too. No difficulty adjustment in the options, but the AI isn't insane. When I heard people talking about how hard it is, I was thinking mortal kombat trilogy for the N64 (if you played it, you know what I mean). Controls are good, but on my DSiXL, trying to jump towards or away from the enemy made me jump straight up instead. It's just the way the D pad is, but if you push a horizontal direction first, then roll your thumb up, it works every time. Just takes a little getting used to in order to do it quick. Puzzle Kombat is fun, but a little slower paced than I like. Still fun though. One last complaint though, the move list shows fatalities, but not "brutalities". Have to look those up on the Internet. I still think over all it's well worth the asking price. If you loved the arcade version, no real reason you won't like this one. I am glad I got it.

Yep, just like you remember. I had a little trouble with special moves but that could just be because I'm rusty at MK.

My daughter loves MK.

.. It is everything youd hope for in a Mortal Kombat video game, appearing as if the sega games fused and grew legs and turned themselves into a DS port, with all the secret code nonsense, brutality blood spewing, IMPOSSIBLE fatality-combinations that are more a matter of luck, MINDLESSLY numbing hard one player fights that make solo-Motaro a thing to be wished for instead of those [E] blocks on master-difficulty and secret characters and fun the same that the sega always offered! Now on the DS! .. Requires buying TWO carts just to play two player. I was never pleased with Nintendo pulling that nonsense when theres perfectly good Wifi built into this game.

LOVE! I love being able to play the more original Mortal Kombats. I am completely happy with my purchase.

UMK DS is probably the MK game I play the most. I have always loved the way classic MK games play because of the fast running and combos I have come to love. Its basically UMK3 in all its arcade glory only on a smaller device. If you were never any good at these games, well its safe to say nothing will change because its just as hard as it was. After playing many times, eventually you will have a favorite character that you know all his/her moves and combos(mine is Shang Tsung) Overall, if you have played the MK3/UMK3 classic, then you know what to expect from this as its the same thing. It also has a nice little mini game of puzzle kombat, which is a good little distraction, but in the end you will spend the majority of time trying to beat Motaro and Shao Kahn in UMK3. I just wish they also ported MKII because that one is my favorite.

Shut up! Mortal Kombat 3 is an amazing game and MK2 was crap JS... I love this game for NDS. I wish I had it in the 90s. Would of been awesome! anyways. Its a good game and easy to play in this system. I like the puzzle bit. A nice add on.

Great game. Got it for my grandson.

I enjoy the game, although I'm not very good at the normal game. It's just UMK3, and Puzzle Kombat is fun. I recommend if you want to play with another person, buying a second copy, because they only offer 4 characters for both players if you play download play.

Great game, pretty hard but worth it because its addicting and will take you long to beat. The puzzle game included is fun, but i'm not a fan of it. In total, the game is awesome and worth buying if your a MK fan and you want it on the go. I verse my sister a lot and shes actually better than me, like brother like sister. :)
