I bought this as an addition to my son's Ludwig Questlove Pocket Kit, and it sounds so much brighter, sharper, and pleasing than the stock crash/ride cymbal. The difference in sound is astonishing. I'm sure that much more expensive and professional crash cymbals may sound better, but this Meinl crash cymbal (we got the 14") is an excellent value for what we paid for. When we upgrade other cymbals, I wouldn't hesitate to go with Meinl again.

First impression: This cymbal looks nice; a very bright finish, looks well made. Upon playing, something feels a bit different from the cymbal I replaced, which was a Zildjian ZBT. I feel like it is fair to compare these two cymbals, because HCS is Meinl's entry level cymbal and ZBT is Zildjian's entry level. They have a similar sound, but the HCS seems thicker and heavier. This may turn out to be a good thing, but right off the bat it is a little off putting. It just kind of threw me off. Overall, I'm happy so far. I'll update this review once I've played on it a bit more. UPDATE: After playing on this for just one week, I had to change my review from "like it," to "love it." The cymbal sounds great, and the uncertainties I had about it quickly faded away as I played it. Great cymbal, especially for the price!

Being a novice drummer I bought this cymbal by reading the reviews. What an amazing cymbal! The different tones that you can achieve I found were simply amazing! Some were even hypnotic. But what do I know I am just a novice. Did I mention I was playing in a band?

8" splash cymbal is a very nice product. We have other Meinl cymbals that sound awesome. Came in perfect condition. I would recommend it to everyone. The only down side was the packaging. It came in one of those package envelopes. It should be mailed in a box. The mail deliverer shoved it in my mail box . It was undamaged. I would definately order more.

A lot of the reviews for this are divided. "Oh, it sounds great," and "sounds like a s***ty gong" come to mind. I bought it anyways. It is definitely a cheap buy, and still looks like an amazing cymbal. As for sound, it does sound pretty crappy. But it's still a great buy for beginner drummers, or drummer who just like to jam out in their basements/garage. Once you start to get a gig or two, you should consider going with a better cymbal UPDATE: I've had the cymbal for about 1.5 years, and it's cracked to the point where I can't play it anymore. It's MOST likely because of the way I've been hitting it, and NOT because of crappy manufacturing. As I look at my old review I think I was a bit critical. I've grown to love the bright sound of this cymbal, and will probably buy another one

k,i've used meinl accent cymbals & are ok-this 14in. crash is great for any thing.play metal?great 4 it.the brand is so gut i'll replace my zildian hi-hats w/ the hcs meinl(i like 2 mix & match cymbals)ones. they r inexpensive,not cheap.meinl alwys comes thru w/quality @ good price & amazing sound quality.made in Deutschland!!!!!

Great sound for the price. I am on a very tight budget and already owned a larger china but wanted something to compliment my kit. This is a great sounding cymbal for the price. I have only had it for a few hours but am pleasantly surprised with its attack and "swashing" type of sound found in many higher priced china cymbals. Great product for the price!

I am a novice and pretty new to musical instruments and that being said, I think this cymbal holder is very good quality, nice to have to add and attach another cymbal to a drum or percussion set and it does come complete with 2 cymbal felts and washers and wingnut.

I bought this HCS china to use in conjunction with a 10" Byzance traditional splash for a mini hihat/stack to use with a cajon and other various percussion. Works great for my application. I am a huge meinl fan and this little guy does not disappoint. I currently own Meinl byzance 13" fast hats, 17", 18", & 19" byzance traditional crashes, 10" byzance traditional splash, & a 22" MB20 ride. I also own to many meinl percussive pieces to mention. This is my first time purchasing from the HCS line & I'm very happy with my purchase. I Would definitely recommend this China to anyone considering it.

I purchased this cymbal to compliment my timbales. I have used various cymbals including Paiste, Pearl, Zildjian, Sabian, etc., but had never purchased a Meinl cymbal before. First: I am pleased at the overall quality and finish. Although I have had it for less than a month, it has help up well with use leaving no residual marks such as oils from my fingers. Second: The sound is sharp as expected for the crash family of cymbals but the smaller size, 14", does not make it overpowering for salsa, songo and other Latin rhythms. I will be adding a splash cymbal to broaden the range of my cymbal use but am definitely pleased with this purchase. Disclaimer: I was offered a complimentary gift for this review.
