LOVE having this door!! It has made the world of different for our family. I have a 9lb s***zu/bichon frise mix that is almost 2 years old. We've always crated him while we are gone and at night. This has helped tremendously knowing that he has access to outside when he wants and our cat cannot get out and nothing can come in. I do wish the key was a bit more sensitive. It took of about a week to figure out to wait for the click to signal it is unlocked. At first he would go to the door and bump into it bc it wasn't unlocked yet. He wasn't understanding to sit and wait on it, but instead would give up on it and wait at the normal door for us to let him out. But after several sessions of making him get to us one way or the other by using the doggy door and rewarding him with treats when he did, he finally figured it out! He's had no accidents in the house since the first day now that he has mastered it. I really think it's made him happier too since he can now play outside if he wants while I'm at work. I now can trust him to be out of his kennel anytime. So much so, that the kennel is folded up and put away now to only be used for travel! It was easy to install! Took my hubby 30min to an hour. I purchased the small and was slightly worried he'd be a bit too big for it, but I wasn't that worried since Amazon is so great about returns. I bought it and cut out a hole in a cardboard box first and tested to make sure he could make it through it without problems before cutting a hole in my wall. I would definitely recommend this dog door!! Ten times over again!!

With everyone in the house working, we wanted our dog to be able to go out when she wanted/needed to without having to be crated all day (she's a hound and easily bored.. just ask anything that can be torn apart). This has been a wonderful product for us. She is happier now that she can just come and go as she pleases. It was easy to install (My husband did it , I just watched). It took her a couple weeks to really get the hang of it but now I would never go without. I wanted a doggy door that was fairly secure since our past landlord had a skunk visit her house one night to eat the dog food... and this fits the bill. It is everything they say and more, giving us the peace of mind that our diabetic hound dog can go out when she needs/wants to and we can go to work/out with the only time restraints of being her shot times and no worries of potty time.

As soon as I signed the final papers for my new house, I ordered this for my spoiled brat. Taught her how to use it in half a day. Her best friend is a Queen who DEMANDS a personal hand servant. She was using the door herself within the first hour of their first slumber party with zero training other than dog to dog and regularly uses it when she visits. As I live in a very rural area but don't have raccoons around, I have yet to use the key option. I do like the ease of locking my dog in when I am away. I bought the large for a 36# dog, too my surprise, 2 identical sized dogs ran through the door in tandem. While I do not regret buying a size larger than my dog, the sizing of these doors is true and correct. PetSafe has always provided me with a high quality product and fantastic customer service. This gives my dog full freedom to come and go as she pleases and will pay for itself in energy cost of heat in winter or cooling in summer.

My dog and her two "cousins" really give this door a workout! Playing outside, then in, then out, then in ... at full speed most of the time. It's a race to see who gets out the door first then, let the games begin! It took three or more years to break the first one I ordered but, because it was so sturdy, I had no qualms about getting another. The plastic door came apart from the metal piece that hold it to the frame of the unit. We don't use the special features because one or more of the dogs would break it by going straight through the door not knowing it was "locked", So, while the extra features are nice, they're not necessary in this house.

We have one senior cat that was simply born to be outside. He doesn't even go anywhere except outside on our gated patio. However, we have three other foster kittens that are NOT ever allowed outside! This was the PERFECT SOLUTION to allow access to only Squints! He's now a happy camper and doesn't wake us up twice per night while we're asleep! lol! We also got the door panel on amazon to fit this into it. We had a handy man replace the open flap in the slider panel with this automatic door opener via automatic remote collar tag! It didn't fit perfectly, as this is slightly smaller than the door in the panel, so we had it fixed so that it would fit! All furry friends are happy as can be now! Meow and purrrrfect!!!

We needed a door that would keep the cats in while letting the dogs come and go as they always have. It took one of our dogs just a couple of minutes to figure out she needed to wait for the click before going on about her business. The other one, while she is an absolute sweetheart, she is NOT an intelligent dog. For a week or so, she would simply wait for the other one to open the door for her and follow close behind. We worked with her for a while, and she's finally using it on her own, though she still doesn't particularly care for it. Our 2 year old cat is NOT happy that she can no longer come and go as she pleases. The kittens hadn't learned to use the free-flow dog door, so they don't care. I'm quite pleased with this dog door! It was very easy to install, and in fact it fit perfectly into the existing dog door hole we already had in the back door. It took a bit of work to get both SmartKey's keyed right for our dogs, but all in all, it was simple. And because the flap doesn't just swing away in the wind, our laundry room no longer floods when it rains!

Works great. We had a problem with raccoons getting through the dog door. So far this door has worked out great. It took a little time for our dog to figure out the procedure of getting through the door but had it down by the first day.

The product installed easily using the provided template and ran flawlessly for about 2-3 weeks before it no longer worked. I ran the trouble shooter which seemed to fix the issue for about 12 hours or so then the issue came back. I then contacted customer service via email which reply in 24 hours and had me run another type of fix in an attempt to alleviate the issue, that lasted about the same amount of time before the issue arose again. I replied via email to customer service that the issue persisted and was immediately issued a return RMA (with apology) and was told a NEW replacement PetSafe SmartDoor would be shipped out and to return the defective one using the enclosed prepaid shipping label and same box. GREAT JOB, and they shipped the new PetSafe SmartDoor within 24 hours and provided the necessary tracking information! NEW door installed and working okay, plus I was told that door was still under the manufacturers 1 year warranty! Order one, PetSafe stands behind it's products!

This door is my back up. I bought one just like it 8 years ago. I have to small dogs they use it all the time. I thought I was going to have to replace it so I bout another just like it. so I could just use the same hole that is in the door. I have replace the batteries over the years numerous times, I could not imagine not having the door. the manual lock is used frequently, my dogs run in and out all the time. I don't use the little magnetic collar keys , they do work but it didn't make any sense for me to be bothered with them. this is a great product. I may never have to use the new one, but I could not manage with out this door. it was a pretty easy install if I remember correctly. good instructions with template for the hole to cut. buy it you will love it. two years late I finally had to install this one. very easy since I already had the hole cut. four screws and I was good. did I mention I have two dogs. the door works great. I don't use the smart keys. I tested them when I first got the original door. for my application I didn't need to bother with them.

There are pretty mixed reviews about this product so I'm going to try to clarify a few things. As other people have indicated, there are a couple different versions. The original version has a clear door with an extruded "range" knob whereas the newer version has a frosted door with a flush "sensitivity" knob. Some have complained about the older version. I received the newer version so can't comment with that respect. There are actually 3 different versions, though. Lowe's sells a version of this door which is "iris" compatible. This is a replica of the newer version of the door but can be distinguished by one additional "4th" blue LED as the leftmost indicator marked "link". I lucked out and got the "Lowe's" version of the door. As such, here is my review accordingly: This door is excellent. Some complain about range, intermittent ID recognition failure, magnet strength, binding, installation, etc., none of which I have noticed. If there is a range or recognition failure, it is probably caused by RF interference in the area. Mine works great and has not "forgotten" any of the 3 keys. After experimenting with a number of different pet doors, this is by far the best weatherized model I have had. It stops heavy winds and has no problems with binding or jamming. The rigid door makes a huge difference over the rubberized flaps. I ensured that the hole was square when I installed it, which is probably an issue for some. Correct installation is obviously a necessity. If the door is un-level or not squared appropriately, I can see a problem with binding. Mine is installed in an insulated steel door. Framing and mounting this through a wall would not be difficult, even without the tunneling kit sold separately. The doors frame is plastic so when the installation screws are installed, the door could easily skew if the hole, level, or square are incorrect. This would absolutely cause binding or jamming, as the door actually slides down into a channel to fully "lock" or secure. The door is pretty quiet, except for a rather loud "pop" when it lifts from the channel to unsecure. It scared the crap out of my Dingo for a few days but he got used to it quick. Now the two dogs and cat have learned that the "pop" means it's time to push. Yeah...if you didn't catch that...my 4lb. cat can easily open the large version of this door, but the wind does not stop it's reset. Now that the functionality is explained, I'll go into the Iris part. Just for entertainment, I got the matching "Iris" hub from Lowe's which is a Zigbee and Z-Wave radio home automation controller. Not only does this allow you to switch from "Automatic" "Locked" and "Unlocked" modes from a smartphone or PC (locally or remotely), it monitors which animal (based on the collar transmitter) exits or enters. You can look at the "activity log" in the Iris app or website and see which animal went "in through the door" or "out through the door" and when. This is a pretty cool feature which has a ton of practical application, even if you don't realize it at first. (ie. it's now pretty simple to see if the kids actually let the dogs out). I should note that, although it is annotated nowhere in the documentation, I have determined that the internal radio for this door is Zigbee, not Z-Wave. If you purchase it with the intent of using it with a Z-Wave controller, it will NOT work. Lowe's convolutes these systems with "Iris" by selling both Z-Wave and Zigbee devices and not bothering to tell you what product is which. There is a lot of room on the inside of the device also. I wanted to add an alarm sensor into the door and it was exceptionally easy to add a wireless reed switch based sensor inside the frame, using one of the built-in magnets as it's motivator. They should build this ability into the door, but it would require too many different versions for compatibility, as there isn't a single protocol for wireless alarm inter-compatibility. It was remarkably simple to add a Honeywell/Ademco 5800micra sensor. The door has now been running on a cheap set of 4 "D" batteries for 2-3 months and hasn't dropped a bar on the "Iris" battery monitor. I would speculate that the version without the Iris transceiver has even longer battery life. I have a 50lb Dingo, 75lb Siberian Husky, and 4lb Siamese cat. None have a problem operating this door. It is solidly constructed, albeit all plastic, and reliable. If you get the correct version, install it correctly, and aren't a complete and utter moron, I am confident (after my personal experiences) that you will be more than happy with the door. This door is well worth the $75, $100, or $229.00 (version dependent) that is spent on it. It looks clean and works great.
