I LOVE this water changer! Before I bought this, I used a basic siphon and bucket. Not so bad when emptying water. But for refilling I hate it. This thing however does both. Hook it up to your faucet and run the water. This creates a siphon and the water is pulled from your tank and straight down the drain. It had a shut off valve to so you can stop anytime. When you're ready to refill the tank, turn the valve on the faucet end and the water pumps straight to your tank. No mess, no buckets! Just be sure to have your water condition ready and check the water temp while doing so.

First, I want to say that this Aqueon water changer makes life SO much easier. But there are a couple of add-ons you may want to consider buying. After I received the hose in the mail I saw that that the faucet adapter was PLASTIC. I had trouble connecting this piece to my faucet and once i got it on it leaked horribly. I searched Home Depot's website and picked up the "NEOPERL Dual Thread for 3/4 in. Hose or Male 55/64 in. Adapter" for $5.95 right from my local store. :) This thing is painted chrome, but its SOLID BRASS and its Lead Free. It was a perfect replacement for that cheap plastic adapter the aqueon came with. Next, I realized that 25 feet of tubing wasn't going to be enough so I searched Lowe's website for 5/8 vinyl tubing (which is the exact size of the tubing the aqueon comes with) and I found "Watts 1' x 5/8" PVC Clear Vinyl Tubing" for a mere $0.37 cents a foot. I went to my local store and bought 10ft of it and a 1/2" plastic splicer (to connect the hoses) for a total of $5 bucks :) Now its perfect! No more leaks and I can reach ALL 3 of my tanks! :D I highly recommend that you purchase the brass adapter from Home Depot instead of Lowe's. The one from Lowe's is made out of metal and contains lead which is poisonous to fish. The Aqueon water changer is just as good as the Python, if not better!

This works great! Watch the video to see how to use it, but there's an additional thing: once you get the siphon going to drain water from your fishtank (or whatever, I'm sure there are other uses), you can turn the tap off to save water. The siphon will continue working as long as the fishtank is higher than the faucet -- even if it's across the room. The only issue I can see with it is if you have a fancier faucet that doesn't take any standard connections, then you'll have to go to the hardware store to get a converter. I wouldn't be able to attach this to my kitchen or bathroom faucet, but since the tank is in the basement, it attaches just fine to the laundry room faucet. If we ever put a fishtank upstairs, I'll just get a longer one of these to keep attaching to the basement sink.

OMG! This product saved my life! I had a small 10 gal tank with a couple of goldfish and water changes were easy. I really liked the aquarium so I decided to up my game and got a 29 gal because the fancy goldfish were getting too big. But that wasn't enough so I got a 55 gal tank and use it as a tropical freshwater so I can try breeding angelfish! So now with the 10 gal, the 29 gal, and the 55 gal the water changes were becoming more and more work! I didn't get into the fish hobby to work! I got into the fish hobby to ENJOY the fish! Plus using buckets I was not making my wife happy getting the carpet and hardwood floors wet ask the time. I'm new to the fish hobby and I thought there has got to be a better way AND THERE IS A BETTER WAY! This product is very easy to use! It syphons the gravel AND also fills up the tank! Just attach it to the kitchen sink, vacuum the gravel and do the water change in one simple task! After cleaning the gravel and removing old water, simply add water and water conditioner and your all set! All I can say is I'm very happy for smart people who create such great products! This one works great!!!

This purchase replaced a 25-foot water changer I purchased several years ago. After fighting with the mess of partial and full water changes in my 55 gallon aquariums, I finally found this product and it works perfectly. Not only does it eliminate the mess and splashing that normally accompanies the water change, it also provides and excellent vacuum to pick up debris from the rocky bottom of the aquariums. When the water removal is complete, a simple flip of the switch on the faucet attachment changes the flow from suction to filling, then I flush the hose into the sink or a bucket, and then I can fill the aquarium without further effort. When vacuuming, I use cold water only as none of the water actually goes into the tank... it only acts to siphon the water out of the tank. When I refill the tank, I adjust the temperature at the faucet to ensure that I don't shock the fish. I add de-chlorinator and anti-shock when I start the fill process. I will say that the gravel tube provided with the water changer is fairly short, not nearly long enough to reach the gravel in a 55-gallon tank. I separately purchased the 18-inch gravel tube (available through Amazon) so that I didn't have to stick my arms down into the water. There are other products on the market that provide similar functionality, but the other brand I tried had a cheaply-made faucet connector that sprayed water all over the place, and used 25-foot extension add-on to the hose to achieve the a 50-foot length. Over time I had problems with leakage where the extension coupled to the changer, which defeated the purpose of the changer hose in my opinion. That one went into the trash. I've never had a problem with leaks with the Aqueon version.

The siphon is a well worth investment. IMPORTANT- yes the sink adaptor is lower end of plastic durability but manageable hence a maids touch. Alot of the reviews say it broke or such but most of the images are from being tightened to much/hard over and over again. You dont need it to super tight, unless your pressure is extremely high but mine is as well and I dont have leaks from it. Just tighten tell it stops then run water. If it does leak tighten a bit more or if like me I just let the small leak go. Its mainly a quick drip. But over all it removes and replaces the water with no issues Dont be a brute and it will last

I got the 25ft one first but it was too short for one of my farthest tank. I noticed it was a lot harder to create a siphon with this new 50 ft on my closer ranks though. So I remembered seeing someone els comment that I should extend the hose completely, instead of leaving it sorta coiled, and that worked perfect. I was able to get my siphon and change the water in my closet tanks. A lot of ppl also say that the plastic breaks after a while, I think if you don’t overtighten the threads, you should be good. There’s rubber seals in between so you could probably get by without having to over tighten the threads. Also I read that the hose cannot withstand normal household pressure, so I tried it and it was able to stop water flow but I think you should just turn off your tap or have someone els do it. Just so you can make this product last. I’m pretty sure if you take care of it, you can make this thing last and save you from having to haul buckets.

Works well & saves a lot of time when doing water changes! Just hook one end to your sink & turn it on to create suction & clean the gravel then turn the valve & fill up the tank with clean water. Makes cleaning the tank a lot easier. Be sure you have a faucet that this can screw on to & that the tube is long enough to reach from that sink to your tank. The one bad thing is I did have to replace one or the plastic pieces because it broke while being stored so it's not super durable but it was probably mostly my fault. I was able to buy the plastic replacement piece on Amazon for about $8. Overall I'm very happy with it & it was much cheaper than the pet store.

I have multiple fish tanks in different rooms in my home and Saturday water change day used to be a pain with emptying water pails and lugging water from the sink to the tanks. Not to mention, the amount of water that ended up on my floors!!! This product is GREAT. Now, I hook one end up to my kitchen sink and put the other end into a tank, turn on the water and vacuum away, with all the dirty water ending up going down the drain. Refilling is even easier... just a matter of setting the correct temperature at the sink, changing the plugs from closed to open and filling the tanks. Fortunately, I have well water so don't need any water conditioners which is even better! I was nervous since some of my danios try to swim up the vacuum, but I watch carefully and keep a strainer in my sink so if one does happen to make the 50 foot trip it can be rescued before it goes down the drain. 50 feet is plenty long enough to get to all my tanks from the kitchen sink. Water changes which used to take all afternoon now can be completed in under an hour. GREAT product!!! After reading some of the other reviews I came back to edit mine. It seems we can all agree that the faucet hookup is the weak link in the system, right? Well, believe it or not, that faucet part, all of it including the adapter AND the siphon part is the exact same system that is used to empty and/or fill a waterbed and is available really inexpensively at pretty much any larger store like Walmart, K-mart, Target, etc. Instead of a lever to start the siphon or to start filling the tank you turn the bottom of the pipe in some of them, at least the one I have for my waterbed. Another point no one has mentioned, if your tank is fairly level or at least not downhill too much, you can shut off the water at your tap after you have started the siphon and it will continue to siphon with no less suction. My tanks are all at least level with my sink faucet or higher so I do not need to run water to keep the siphon going. The hose does run along the floor but as long as the tank and the sink are pretty much the same it will keep sucking along without the waste of water.

I am very happy with this item. I use to own the python version of siphon hoses 20 years ago. They are very similar with the exception of the shutoff valve location. The Aqueon has two shut off valves. Bothe are on the attachments on each end of the line and not in-line on the hose which is actually an improvement. I ordered the 25 foot version which was about 5 feet shorter than where I put my tank from the bathroom sink. This was not a problem. I went to Home Depot and purchased a 10 Foot length of the 5/8" clear/matching hose and a brass (like shark bite) Union and turned my 25' hose into a 35' hose which was much cheaper than buying the extension. No leaks, No complaints.
