I'm not the kind of person that gets excited about a sprinkler. Let's face it, they're there to do a job and if they're a really good one like this one is, they do a really good job. I received this baby today and put it into service right away on my 7,200 sq. ft. property and I couldn't be more impressed. It has simple quick finger tip adjustments for width of coverage, back and forth limits, a removable nozzle cleaner built into it and even a quick disconnect adapter if you choose to use it. And, it looks cool with its black and yellow exterior. And, the price? Amazon sent me an email notice on this item and I was quite surprised at the $16.00 price tag! Over the years I've bought a few of these but never one with so many features at such a great price. The water stream is the right density to not fine mist or spray where only part of what goes into the air comes down on the grass. I've watched the spray carefully at even high voluume to be sure all of what goes up comes down and this sprinkler does that perfectly. I also have a very old Rain Bird sprinkler which back in the day was kind of the sprinkler you judged all others by. But, during the sprinkling cycle it has some mist which is produced from the extended oscillator lever and I always saw that as a water wasting design issue. But, way back, water conservation wasn't the big deal it is now. This sprinkler won't waste water. Where you adjust it to put the water, that's where the water goes. I'm totally impressed and happy with it. Now, if it continues to work great for the next couple of years, I'd say this is one solid bargain.

This is one of the best sprinklers I've ever purchased in my life. I am quite accustomed to using the 'old school' standard sprinklers (for ex. lawn tractors, rotating sprinklers, and the basic oscillating sprinklers everybody has from Walmart) that do the most basic job of watering your lawn and garden but never go above and beyond the length and width of coverage that most of these other products suffer from. This product right here is the solution! I could not be any happier with how well this sprinkler waters my precious veggies. One word of caution for those worried about leaks: avoid over-tightening the connection to your hose because the entirety of this product is plastic. Usually what happens is that plastic parts will crack on the inside (usually the threads fail first), followed by worn out O-rings, etc. O-rings should have greased up, and I would avoid using PTFE tape on these because it's not a permanent connection. You can use some of that grease on the threads but just a LITTLE bit. All in all, this is a great product that I absolutely recommend!

This sprinkler is amazing. I highly recommend it . It is very adjustable and you have the flexibility to water an entire lawn (up to the capacity of the sprinkler, of course) or just a small area. For example, this was my first time buying and using a sprinkler and I accidentally bought one too large for my yard. This waters up to 4000 sq. ft. while later I realized my yard is only about 700 sq. ft. Yet I'm able to adjust the sprinkler so I'm perfectly within the perimeters of my yard. The only thing I noticed is that it's a bit light weight so I put two small rocks to help keep it in place.

Feels a bit thin but overall is awesome. It is all plastic so dont leave it out in the hot sun or cold weather to freeze. The adjustments are fantastic, I can set it so that it goes right up to the property line and hits my whole yard without watering the neighbors, the fence, the house, or the sidewalk. Since its all plastic I dont see it lasting a super long time like a metal one but for the price I dont think I could have found a better sprinkler. Adjustments can be made to widen the area it sprays out from the sides, the pressure it sprays so that it can water further away or closer to the sprinkler, and finally how far each way it goes so it can go side to side almost horizontal each way or more vertical back and forth for a shorter distance.

I’ve been using a Melnor spray nozzle and another Melnor sprinkler (model XT4100) for more than a year now through spring, summer and two autumns plus a winter of storage and both continue to perform very well. Had more landscaping and sod placed this fall and needed to be running two sprinklers at once, so decided to add this XT4200 model. Two of its features are the same as the model I had (adjustable oscillation up to 180-degrees; adjustable width from narrow (straight-ahead) to a wide fan spread). Plus it adds a third feature -- a little switch that turns the water flow from high to low without turning it off, which is very useful for keeping me dry while I reposition the sprinkler :) Very pleased with Melnor and this model.

I just took delivery of this product and since it works now, I give it 5 stars because I know its weaknesses and I can deal with them. I have been using the old plastic version for many years and I use it to water my compost pile which converts tree leaves to compost. The compost bin is rectangular and I like this sprinkler because I can tailor its watering pattern precisely and don't waste much water. I don't know of any other product that has independent control of both dimensions of the water pattern. My new product keeps the original yellow plastic rings which allow independent control of how far the water is thrown. Maybe the new product uses a better grade of plastic but it doesn't matter to me because I will not be depending on the little teeth or whatever the yellow rings use to stay in place. I will use my new sprinkler to water part of my lawn and will set both yellow rings to their maximums. That way the little teeth won't be needed. If in the future I do need to limit how far the water is thrown I will do what I have been doing with the old sprinkler. The yellow rings of the old sprinkler no longer have teeth that work so I use duct tape to attach the yellow plastic rings to the stationary body. I don't need to change how far the water is thrown but if I do need to change that I can just adjust the pattern with the faucet. There are rules in using this product I have learned the hard way. One is, keep it clean, internally and externally so that sand does not get in the close spaces between parts. Another is, keep it operating with the longitudinal part as level as possible. That way the water flow can be minimized if necessary. Adequate water flow is vital to keep it oscillating. If your sprinkler stops oscillating, check how level it is. I plan to keep my new one in the garage and/or even in the house so that the sun and heat do not cause the plastic to degrade.

It has all the adjustments I need for my 1/4 acre with twists and turns and narrow aisles, outbuildings, etc. The plastic tabs look a little flimsy, but time will tell. Update: I've had it a week now, it works fine, but I found an old one just like it at Goodwill for cheap, so I picked it up as a spare. So, based on the evidence of an old one from Goodwill that works just as good as the new one, I'd say they're pretty durable.

I can't tell you how many different types of sprinklers I've tried to water my garden. Basically all had to be moved a couple of times to properly water due to their typical spray pattern. I either watered more than my garden to be sure it's watered, or like I said, had to move it a couple of times so I'm not watering the area around my garden. This one is absolutely the best I've bought. Can adjust the width and the stroke so very easily, just like the one guy that left a video in his review showed (I'd look for that review if you're not sure what I'm talking/typing about). This sprinkler is definitely the "cat's meow"!

This is my 2nd Melnor XT and I still really like the product. The ONLY shortcoming is the fragile "width adjustment" levers. The are plastic and break easily. It is important to use both simultaneously and do it carefully. They really should be more robust plastic, or even metal. That aside, it's a great product and I will buy more (hopefully not because I broke ANOTHER width adjustor.
