We recently added a baby to the family, who is breastfeeding. As part of this, my daughter-in-law wanted to store extra breast milk for later, for the baby. My son bought three of the top rated bags off Amazon: Nuk, Lansinoh and Bow Tiger. Then, he tested them with regular milk, 6 oz, frozen overnight, and defrosted in the morning. All bags performed as expected. They all have double zippers, there were no leaks, and there was no taste to the milk. All bags can stand upright once partially full, and store up to 6 oz. Bottom line: Nuk is made in the USA, works great, and the label is on the top part, not where the milk is in the bag. Lansinoh is made in Taiwan, works great, and is pretty much the same as the Nuk. Bow Tiger is made in China, works great, but the label is where the milk is in the bag. All three are great options. Given other's experiences with bag quality, you may want to test each batch before use.

What I've learned as a first time mom, is that I can purchase products that have great reviews from other parents, but the bottom line is "what does the baby like?" I purchased Tommy Tippee bottles, because parents raved on how great they were, but my baby hates them. It's not that it was not a good product, it's just my baby's preference. All I know it's that these bottles are awesome and my baby loves them. You can unscrew the bottom base to place the nipple inside and sterilize them in the microwave. I'm a huge fan!

Love the shape of these, they fit well in the freezer without taking up a lot of real estate. Haven’t had any leaks from any so far, and they are from a trusted name.

These are a really thought through product. I love that all the writing is done on the top part so the ink can't come into contact with the milk. The heavy duty ziplock has never failed me. The sides have a half circle shape that is perfect for pouring the bottle into, so I've never spilled milk pouring it in. The milk pours back out of the sides just as easily. I would recommend laying these flat before freezing because it will save you freezer space and it is much easier to thaw out the milk. I tried freezing milk in little bottles and it took FOREVER to thaw the milk which is not helpful when your baby thinks she is starving. These thaw out pretty quickly. I did not notice a plastic smell to the milk after thawing like others mentioned. My baby has not ever denied milk that has been frozen and thawed in these either. She has denied milk that was a few days old in the fridge though.

When I was breast feeding my first child I used the plastic BPA free bottles and froze what I could. It took up a lot of space and was somewhat of a guessing game as to how much could fit into each bottle. (I tried to get as much as I could into each one.) When I was looking for a better way to store breast milk the second time around I wavered between several types and finally decided to give this product a try because it would require the least amount of space in my freezer, is BPA free, and looked easy to use. I have been using them now for two months with no problems. I've ordered a second box and have approximately 75 bags in the freezer right now. One of the concerns that I had with choosing this product was several woman complaining about leaking bags. I've used over 75 bags with zero leakage. I do make certain that the surface I am using is clean of all liquids and crumbs. I could see crumbs possibly causing a small hole which would create a leak but, you would have to be really careless to have this happen. I've also thawed several bags in the fridge and followed the instructions that come with the bags, quite logical really. The company claims that they have an easy pour on the bags but, I tend to be klutzy so instead of using the pour spout I gently turn the bag upside down and cut off one of the corners and then use that to pour the contents into a bottle. I figured that way I can make just a small hole that allows me to have better control when I'm pouring the milk thus creating less potential for spills. I have been so pleased with my choice in using these bags. I am able to lay them flat to freeze, store them upright in my freezer once frozen, thaw and use just as much milk as needed for each bottle. I would strongly encourage anyone looking for an easy, clean, and effective storage system for breast milk to seriously consider giving these a try.

Pumping into the bag saves so much more time

I love the fact I that I can pump straight into the milk bags and not have to deal with bottles. The attachment is hassle free, simple and easy to use.

EDIT 7/29/14 When I wrote the review, I was in the process of storing milk and had not started defrosting yet. As a lot of reviewers have pointed out, these bags have a tendency to leak when defrosting. This meant that I had to plan ahead for defrosting in a bowl rather than in water or a bottle warmer. While that is worth deducting a star, the fact that the bags are recyclable gave the star back (Medela's, which did not leak, are not). --- Because I use a Medela pump, I got a lot of Medela paraphernalia when I started pumping, including their bags. At one point I ran out when traveling, and I am so glad that I did because I was forced to try a new brand--these are SO MUCH BETTER. They are easier to open, easier to fill and hold a lot more per bag, easier to close, easier to freeze flat (rather in that awful unwieldy teardrop shape), easier easier easier. I wish I used these from the beginning.

These bags have worked fantastically for me. I love that i can pump right into them and that I can freeze them flat for storage. I have gone through 4 boxes already with no issues.

I have gone through many boxes of storage bags, and the Lansinoh are simply the best. I got a box of Medela bags as a shower gift. I absolutely love my Medela pump so assumed the bags would be good as well. The Medela bags are very stiff. They do stand up nicely when pouring milk in, although the bag doesn't always pop apart like it is supposed to in order to stand. They come with a plastic thing to put in the bag while pouring milk in. It is a waste of time to use, in my opinion. The seal is the biggest problem. Out of the 25 Medela bags I used, I found out I did not get the bags sealed all the way when I put them in the freezer so milk spilled. When I was through about 15 bags, I had two spill in the freezer. Once I figured out how difficult they were to seal, I took extra time to go back and forth over the seam and didn't have the spilling problem again, but it was a hassle. Since the bags are stiff, they spill milk more than Lansinoh when you put milk in the bottles. In comparison, the Lansinoh bags are much softer. They lay flat until they are partially filled with milk then the bottom "drops" and they stand up on their own on the counter--very efficient design. The best part is that the Lansinoh bags are not only easier to seal; they have two sealing seams, so it always seals the first time. There was one time I didn't get the first one sealed, and the second one saved me! The softer design also allows milk to pour out more easily into the bottles. I have read that both Medela and Lansinoh are BPA free.
