I has the possitive display version several years ago. I wore that watch everyday for 4 or 5 years before moving on to a smart watch. I am not a smart watch kind of guy. I have a Garmin Fenix 5x I use for working out to keep track of heart rate and such. When I am at work I needed a practical watch that did not have to be charged all the time. I went back to Suunto based on my possitive experience before. My brother still wears my old watch. The only change from my first is the band. It is softer and has no break in period. I prefer this softer band. I also chose the all black version since it looks cleaner than a big white face. I was worried it would be hard to read. I did have to adjust the contrast from the standard setting of 7, up to 10. The contrast setting goes from 1 to 13. A quick Google search will show you how to adjust the contrast, it is not in the standard menu setting. It was easy to follow the instructions on the suunto web page. The build quality is just as good as my original and I fully expect it to provide me service for years to come. Batteries last me 12-14 months. I have the back light to turn on with any key push and I keep the button tones turned on. The only setting I keep off is the storm alert. I turn that on when I am camping or hiking only. Some people may care to know, this watch does not have a split lap stop watch. I know it is important for some to have this feature but I have never needed that sort of function. The other down side is it only has 1 alarm. Again I have never had a need for more than one alarm, I know some people need that function. I was really hesitant to buy the negative display, but I am sure glad I did. It streamlines the look of this watch. I can see why this is the most popular Suunto watch they sell since it was introduced. If you are on the fence, just buy it. You will be happy you did. On a final note. When I change my batteries, I always change it with a new rubber O-ring. I put a VERY VERY small amount of silicone grease on the O-ring prior to installing the new battery. It may be overkill but I never had any leaking or water resistance issues. The O-rings are cheap to buy. I like how Suunto trusts its consumers enough to swap out their own batteries! Fantastic watch. And the price it is now on Amazon, snag one up before the broke hikes back up.

I have had this watch for almost 6 months and love it. Very durable, it is on my wrist constantly and it has held up well. The face has taken several knocks and only one minor scratch from a rock. Keeps time well, the ABC functions all work well. It is a bigger watch but doesn't feel like it. The band has held up well, maybe they finally fixed that problem. The center button has stuck once but popped right out and hasn't done it again. Some of the menu functions take some getting used to but once you figure this watch out it is an great companion on any excursion.

Really happy with this watch. Really high quality and works as advertised. Battery still going strong after a year. Lots of functions and the look of the watch is awesome. No issues seeing the display.

I got this watch November 12th 2017. I have had this watch for 3 months. First let me start the review by saying l am a big Gshock Collector. I have 40 gshocks and 12 Protrek watches. I love ABC watches. I ride mountain bikes ,swim , hike and go to the gym.I am a active soon to be 56 years old.I love fishing boating everything with in reason. So my review about Suunto Core. I love the way the watch feels on my wrist. I have a 7 inch wrist and the watch feels great. I like the Compass which is accurate. The Barometer is good and the Altimeter works well. The watch is easy to read during the day . What I don't like about the watch is battery instead of solar and the watch is only water resistant to 30 meters.I have had it under water in a pool for 2 hours today Swimming no problems. I would not use this in water all day.l was taking a chance today. I forget to wear one of my gshocks or Protrek watches. The watch has a depth meter to 10 feet. But I heard a lot of reviews saying the watch leaks after swimming. I now a lot of my friends in the military wear them. I really do like the watch for comport. You can wear the watch at formal occasion to. I bought the watch because Denzel Washington wore it in the Equalizer movie. That watch was made just for the movie. The seconds on this watch are very small. Now for durability. The watch in no way could stand the treatment that a Gshock or Protrek Could . This is a great watch for comfort and I like the way it looks. I recommend this watch . I do like it and wear it often. Now I am a watch Collector. This would not be my first choice. To me the best watch is the Gshock or Protrek. Time Will tell how long it last. Good luck on any watch you buy. Remember the best watch is the one your wrist. Buy it at Amazon and save money. I will update in the future on the battery life .

I am so glad that I took the plunge. I've been mulling over this purchase for years - and I finally hit F***k It. This thing has been dragged down white water rapids with me, survived daily wear on a construction worker's wrist, rolled around in the dunes, and it's had the distinctive induction to the mile high club. I'm sure that I will replace it when I finally destroy the dang thing, but I'm not quite sure that will be any time soon.

I purchased this watch for Ranger School and was not disappointed. The compass works great when calibrated correctly and the elevation plot feature is especially cool. I am a huge into western big game hunting at high elevations and so this is a great tool for me. During my time at Ranger School I damaged this watch pretty bad and sent it to Suunto for repair. Suunto sent me a brand new watch no questions asked. Great customer service, I highly recommend them to anyone in the market for a quality product.

I have had my Suunto Core for over 6 YEARS now. Over 6 years of daily use, seriously, this thing has not leave my wrist. I am an enlisted military service member with 11+ years in the infantry, I am also a firefighter/paramedic for one of the busiest departments in the country. Needless to say I have put this watch through its paces and have abused the life out of it. It has been through hell and back to include military deployments to Iraq and Africa (year long deployments). It has been inside burning houses, heavy interior fire fighting inside structures, car fires, in the ocean on shallow dives, in rivers, on hikes and countless of other events.... This watch has seen it all for the last 6 years and still running strong. I have read negatives about straps and other things but I have to say mine has been nothing but great to me. Yes, I have ripped of the small strap band. I contacted Suunto about maybe sending me a new one, figured its such a small piece they can provide for free. Well, they wanted me to buy all new straps that run about $60. I did not want to buy a new pair of straps just for that so I made my own out of 550 cord. That 550 has been on it for about 4 years with no issues. The top current review on this watch claims the band is fragile , dry rots and cracks. Guess what, I have yet to change out my bands...6 years later!!! They are flimsy and extremely broken in now, might be time for a swap but won't do it until these fail me. The battery life is good on it as long as you don't leave unnecessary features on all the time. For instance, I do not need to know if the watch senses a storm coming in or a change in pressure. I turn on when I am in the field if needed but until than that is off, no need for the chirping. Do things like this extends my battery life. I swap batteries about 1-2 times a year, thats it. Overall, I love this watch and will continue to wear it everyday. I have had friends buy them and feel the same way. I get slightly jealous when I see a new one, they look nice when new and pitch black features, but wouldn't trade my broken in, scarred up, battle worn one for anything. Just take a look at some of my pictures. You can clearly see I have shown no mercy to this thing. I am currently overseas again....and STILL wearing this.

I bought this before a deployment. Worn for over 6 months in a desert environment. Looks cool. I do have a small scratch on the glass itself. I can tell the bezel over time will slowly get worn and scratched. All the functions work well. I wouldn't rely on the compass for life and death situations but it can give you a good idea on where you're going. All the other functions of this watch are useful. Glad I purchased this watch.

a bit outdated by today's standards but does the job This is my second one - destroyed the first one by accident, all functions work very well,, the altimeter is always very close to values displayed on my gps unit. One has to remember to check altimeter before start - taht's a common issue being barometric. compass is reliable as long as you follow proper procedures ( level sighting), and keeps the time correct. Temperature reading is on, IF you remove it from your wrist and let it sit in the hade for a good 10 minutes My favorite hiking watch. - holds well under cold and rain with no issues

I was inspired to purchase this watch because it was worn by Denzel Washington in both Equalizer films. I like the comfort and easy readability. I am pleasantly surprised that the numerals are easy to read in direct sunlight. I also like the fact that the watch has a low-battery feature and that I can easily change out the battery myself without going to a jeweler. Overall, I have been pleased with my purchase.
