I really like this thermometer
I've only had this for a week, so I reserve the right to change my review if it doesn't stay on par, but as of right now, I really like this thermometer. Nice big easy to read numbers. I bought two units and just used one outside transmitter to transmit outside temp to each units stationed in different parts of my home. So far both units have no issues with receiving the wireless transmission of the outside temperature data. One base inside unit is probably 75 - 100 feet away from the outside transmitter. I beleive they are within acceptable tolerance for accuracy. Each reading inside temperature within 1degree of each other when placed side by side. When I bring the outside transmitter inside to place beside the base unit, the outside and inside register within 1.25 degrees of each other.

Just right!
I bought this last year when I realized just how cold it was going to get in the winters around here: not very! It doesn't break freezing more than a couple of nights a year, which means that it's running weather all year round. But once it drops below 50°F what you're wearing makes a difference… This has been perfect for my purposes all year long. Reliable and easy to read, setup was a breeze.

If all else fails, read the directions!!
The old saying is so true-If all else fails, read the directions! I am really bad about just using my "common sense" to work things. It usually works fine. This temperature gauge worked fine, too. I loved being able to see the outside temps without going out to check the thermometer. But then, it quit working! I thought, "Aha, it needs new batteries." So, I replaced the batteries in the outside sensor. From then on, it gave the time and indoor temps, but the outside temp was iffy. Sometimes it was there, but more often than not, it was blank. I was getting ready to throw it out, but I accidentally found the sheet of directions. I read them and it said to always replace the batteries in both the outside and the inside units at the same time. Guess what? It works great. So, if you need a simple, easy to read temperature gauge that you can stay inside to read, this one is for you.

Love it! Still working perfectly after over 8 years!
I have owned this since October of 2009. After seven years of use, the only thing that has gone wrong is that the holding clip for the outdoor transmitter cracked this past summer. Now it hangs from a hook instead of clipping into its holder. The base unit has had no problem in seven years, and the transmitter itself has also been problem free. Not many items last like this has! I only use it to measure indoor and outdoor temperatures, I don't move it around. Batteries need to be changed at least once and maybe twice a year. I have found that if I change the batteries twice a year the display stays bright enough to read from across the room. One piece of advice on batteries with this unit- Some battery brands, including Panasonic and Sunbeam, seem to be just a small fraction shorter than others, and don't make a good connection in the transmitter. Energizer and Duracell fit tight and work well in both the transmitter and the base unit, as do the Walgreens brand. Update- It’s now 2018, and it’s still working.

Why I gave the La Crosse Digital Thermometer a 1 Star and hope to end up changing it to a 5 Star
Right now I am giving this a 1 star. I purchased the digital thermometer and two senors. New Duracell alkaline batteries were used. All three units synced perfectly and the temperature readings were big and bold. Exactly what I wanted to measure the temperatures in the garage, attic and the outdoors. I was very happy. Two weeks into the installation, the screen on the temperature reader went dark. I could sill see the sensor readings on the screen but they were very faint. I emailed La Crosse Tech and asked how long batteries were to last. I was told from 12 to 18 months. I replaced all the batteries in the three units with new Energizer alkaline batteries.. Once again all three synced and worked perfectly. I re-installed the sensors in their spot and everything looked good. I was happy once more. A week in to the re-installation, the temperature reader stopped giving the temperature readings of the sensors. Where the sensor readings were on the reader were now black bars. I watch for about three days and the sensors never connected back to the thermometer reader. About three days into watching the reader to see if the sensors eventually connected, an "RX" appeared on the screen of the reader. I looked up what "RX" meant. It meant that the batteries in the sensors were low. I was discouraged. Not in a million years was I going to climb into the attic to get one of the sensors, buy new batteries for the three units and re-install every couple weeks. I called La Crosse and told them what was happening. I was giving a Service Ticket number to have all three units sent back to the company to see what was wrong. I just got back from the Post Office where I mailed back the units to La Crosse at a cost of $4.00. If and when I get the temperate reader and two sensors back and they work as they should, I will be excited. And I will log back into Amazon and change my 1 Star rating to 5 Star. ------------------------------------------ 12/01/13 I received the temperature reader and two sensors back from La Crosse on 11/27/13. In the package was a note stating that the two sensors checked out to be working. The temperature reader was bad. The reader was replaced. I synced both sensors with the new reader. They synced and worked perfectly. All three are in place and working. Now to see if they last more than two weeks. -------------------------------------------- 12/22/13 The replacement reader has been working perfectly for a month. I really like this unit and so glad that it is working perfectly, exactly what I hoped for. I am changing my rating to a Five Star from the One Star that originally rated.

Great Simple Weather Station
I've had mine three years and have been looking for a more complex La Crosse station (I had VERY bad luck with AccuRite devices and its customer support). I saw some poor reviews of the La Crosse color ones, which concerned me. So I thought I'd check out reviews of this one. Same thing, some unhappy reviewers. All I can say is I've had mine three years, I just had to change the batteries on both parts, accuracy is good, controls are easy to use (granted, it's a simple device), no complaints. I guess I'll try a fancier one.

Works great!
So far, so good. This seems to be a great unit for the price. Easy set up and install. I just really hope the remote is waterproof, as I had no place to put it outside, that offered protection. We will see. Update to my review. It's been a week, and I'm having problems. The unit stopped reading the outside temp. I brought it in and reset per the instructions. Started working, but unit was 10 degrees off from actual outside temp, then it stopped displaying the outside again. I'm going to reset it one more time, but it looks like I'll be returning it. This is my third and final review of this unit. Don't waste your money! My second unit has the same problem with it as the first one. After a day the device looses the outside temp. My main into and remote are 15 feet apart, in a straight line. I mounted the remote right outside our front door, and the main unit on the closest wall just in the other side. I have bought 2 brand new set of quality batteries, tested them first and still no luck. I have followed the reset instructions to a tee. It works for a day, then looses its signal again. This one is going back for a refund. It's too bad, it's a nice looking unit. I will look for something else. I did a little more research. I had the unit mounted on the side of our door frame. This was about a foot away from our front door which is metal. The instructions say to not install near any metal doors or windows. I moved it to another location. It had been working great for a week. I guess I have to take back what I did. Very pleased so far.

Has worked flawlessly for over a year in temps ranging from below zero to over 100 degrees.
I purchased this thermometer along with one extra transmitter over a year ago and it has worked flawlessly since. I placed one transmitter outside and one in our chicken coop where they were both exposed to temperatures below freezing for much of last winter and plenty of nights below zero. In the summer, the transmitters were exposed to temperatures consistently above 90 degrees and above 100 degrees on a few occasions. Regarding our chicken coop transmitter, we placed the receiver next to a kitchen window so that the receiver and transmitter maintained a line-of-sight despite being in two separate buildings approximately 100 feet apart from one another. Also, this device saves the minimum and maximum recorder temperatures which was very useful when trying to determine how cold the chicken coop got throughout the night. Both transmitters and the receivers have worked perfectly for over a year and they are still in use now. I would highly recommend this thermometer and the extra transmitters.

wireless thermometer
This wireless thermometer works extremely well and is easy to set up - but you absolutely must follow the directions exactly. Range is excellent - but just make sure that some large object such as a metal shed or a large oak tree is not in line-of-sight between any of the transmitters and the receiver. I am using 3 of these temp sensors with the 915 MHz receiver. One sensor came with the receiver, and I just purchased two more, since the receiver can display up to three different temperatures from three sensors. However be advised that if you carry one or more of these sensors out of range and the receiver loses track of it, you absolutely must take the batteries out of all three sensors and out of the receiver and re-initialize all of them. This is not a difficult step, since I did it several times while playing around with the sensors to see how much range they had - which resulted in the receiver losing track of one of them. When you first see the instruction booklet that comes with the receiver, it looks daunting, but not to worry, since only a tiny part of it is in English, with all the rest in other languages. Once all the temp sensors are initialized, then it takes only a few seconds to set the clock. I read in other reviews that some buyers had problems getting their receiver to respond to some sensors, but that is because the buyers failed to properly re-initialize their units. Also be advised that if you buy a display unit that receives transmissions at 915 MHz, then you absolutely must buy sensors that also transmit at 915 MHz. Several of the sensors that are sold by Amazon look alike, but not all of them use 915 MHz, so carefully read the tech specs to make sure that both the transmitter and the receiver operate at 915 MHz.

An encore device to replace the same reader
This was to replace a previous thermometer that stopped working. I have been very happy with the design and function of this model. The numbers are good size to be read from several feet away, the outdoor reading is especially appreciated in the summer here in the Central Valley of California. Today's temp is threateningly close to 100! Good to know if I want to ge out for errancx. Only hitch: mounting the outside device is a very tight to get in the mount that came with it. It should be tight so it will not come loose easily but it is a challenge for me.
