I've had this small TV just over a year so far, so cannot yet comment on long-term reliability. (But I will if I have the same problems I've had with one of Toshiba's very expensive laptop computers, grrrr.) The picture, to me (I'm not especially taken with TV watching) is excellent. I use it in a situation a foot or two from my eyes. Normally I wear glasses but find I can view the picture without them - it is that sharp. There have been complaints about the sound quality but I have no problem even without the volume up all the way. I am planning, frankly, to add exterior speakers, but have put this off because the original configuration is adequate. I totally love the convenience of the built-in DVD player. I like the understated appearance. One note: Do be careful of the screen. I accidentally hit it with a metal buckle that I didn't realize was swinging from a piece of clothing, and that made a mark that apparently can't be fixed. I do notice the mark when viewing although it mostly bothers me because it reminds me of my mistake.

This is a great little TV set! It is easy to program. I must agree that the channel changes are slow. We like the TV remote. The TV set requires 115 Volts AC for the power source; In our case, we use a small Tripp-lite inverter to produce the needed 115 Volts AC from out small camper's battery pair. PRO: The unit draws only 21 Watts, per my Kill-A-Watt indicator!! Bottom line; This means a small 12 Volt DC amperage current draw, when using a small DC-to-AC inverter. This TV set draws less current than our previous analog solid-state 5 inch TV set! -Which makes it very acceptable for our battery-powered camper accessories. CON: I could not locate a SIGNAL STRENGTH indicator in the programming of the TV set!! I have never before seen a digital TV set that did not have this! Bottom line; This makes the adjustment of the camper's directional TV antenna a hit-and-miss situation. I'd buy this set again! The signal strength appears to be on par or BETTER than our previous camper TV. The picture qu is very good, considering the cost of the unit. The remote is easy to operate. The TV set's audio output is more than enough for our camper; I had seen others complain of the low audio, but I cannot agree with this, as we feel that the sound is very adequate, and is of good enough quality.

[Toshiba is one of the few Japanese electronics players still in the game, yet it continues to get no respect. Where can I find anything current that is comparable to this indestructible, lightweight, versatile little set. We used it in the bedroom, then in the basement, then in the kitchen (admittedly a 17-19" screen would have been easier to see from my treadmill across the room), then in the corner of my office desk (takes up no space, plays DVDs and CDs, same perfect picture). Originally, I paid close to $300, and it's been well worth it, even though in the months following my purchase I saw the price come down to $200 (a steal). After 4 years of enjoying it I'm giving it to my wife, and settling for my iPod She received a frightening "wallop" from her comparably-sized, much heavier, cathode ray, RCA TV while trying to level it. It included a VCR instead of a disc player and, I'll admit, has been just as durable as is my Tennessee-made 1988 Sylvania. Good television sets simply don't wear out! They keep "a' goin'--for 20 or more years. I almost feel sorry for the salesmen in the television department of Sears, etc. There's simply little justificaton for swapping out for an overpriced TV set. I mean, who wants a 60-inch monstrosity? Who would let their child wear 3D glasses? (What an ill-conceived "innovation"--I first saw a 3D movie--"Bwana Devil," as I recall--at the State Theater in Rockford, Illinois some 60 years ago!) Come on manufacturers! I challenge you to produce something as good as this Toshiba LCD with DVD player in 2013!} Original review: I'm far from being a "techie," but within a few minutes of removing this item from the box, plugging it into the wall, and attaching an ordinary coaxial cable, I was commander of a media empire (with nary a glance at the instruction manual). First of all, this thing is remarkably light, compact, and transportable. Even though it was delegated to replace the aging Emerson 13" TV in our kitchen, I can't think of anything I would rather take with me to another room, my desk, or on a trip. As is the case with any flat LCD screen, it doesn't "play" as large as its cathode ray equivalent. (For example, If you want to experience the effect of your old 27" big tube TV, you'll need a 37" LCD display--not just because of aspect ratio but the brighter, more intense, life-like quality that is unique to the "picture-tube" television sets of yore.) So given the shallow profile of this baby, don't be surprised if you find yourself second-guessing whether or not you should have sprung for the 19"-20" model. Nevertheless, once you've lit up this little Toshiba, chances are you won't want to let it out of your sight. It doesn't have HDMI inputs--just coax, S-Video, and 3-color component video. Yet with a screen this small, clarity and brightness are never an issue. Even with an ordinary coax connection, the images are as crisp and sharply defined as the "enhanced" HD signals at a Best Buy or Sears TV department, the colors are vivid yet complex (just be sure to set it in permanent "Movie" mode--all of the other settings push contrast at the expense of hues and colors). I have a 40" Sony flat screen that takes me several minutes to locate the switches, adjust the TV menu, then the set-top box, and by the time I find my way through the plethora of Time-Warner channels, I've missed the opening skit to SNL. The Toshiba, by comparison, is instant (allow for several seconds for the channel to lock and the screen to illuminate. The audio is acceptable for dialog. There's no distortion or "canned" quality, though for listening to Bernard Herrmann's score to "Vertigo" (the first DVD I fed the machine), I might give some consideration to using audio "out" for headphones or a hi-fi system. For most purposes, the sound is just fine. The remote, moreover, is bigger and friendlier than those coming with sets costing 5-10 times as much (yet this is one set for which the remote is an unneeded luxury). And I find the channel changes to be relatively quick for an LCD hi def processor. In sum, simplicity, practicality, price and state-of-the-art technology tell me this is a "gadget" to own--if only because it behaves less like a gadget than a utilitarian necessity. Just remember to set it in "movie mode" (I know, too yellow on most HD sets), which seems like the perfect setting for all program types on this baby. [June, 2010 update: the set is still performing like a champion--and still among the best-selling flat-screens on Amazon. The word has gotten out.]{But see most recent 2013 report above.]

I wanted to write a review because I always scan the reviews before I purchase a product. I am completely satisfied with this little set. The picture quality is fine despite the fact that I generally look at the set from an angle. It is quite compact, which is just what I wanted. I have also moved it from room to room easily. When I'm not moving it (which is most of the time), I keep it on a shelf. It is never in the way. As one reviewer mentioned, due to the proportions of this screen, sometimes the image is smaller than the entire screen area. I've found this doesn't bother me at all. I don't even notice it. There is also a lag after you turn it on. This is a bit annoying at times, but generally I tune into things a few minutes early, so it doesn't really matter. I don't find as much of a lag when switching channels. After the set is "on," the time between changing channels is pretty similar to what I experienced with my old set. One last point: the setup must have been easy since I can't recall anything about it. I've had the set several months now and my recollection is that it "worked" immediately, so I must have just plugged it in.

I ordered this to replace a Polaroid 15" which died after only 18 months. It came quickly and was very easy to set up. The picture, for a small tv, is excellent - very crisp and clear (and we have regular cable, no HD). I have experienced none of the issues some other posters have mentioned. I have had the tv on all afternoon and evening, viewing it from different locations in the kitchen and have observed no distortion. I did, however, place it on a 2" cutting board to bring the height up to match my computer flat screen. The sound is fine, no tinnyness and it took longer for the Polaroid to start up and switch channels. The Polaroid had no built-in dvd player so I had it hooked up to an external player. This dvd player is great - very easy to use, crisp picture and sound. I give this little gem 5 stars - very pleased with the purchase. I am SOOOO glad I did NOT buy one of the cheaper Walmart offerings!

Bought this after reading lots of other reviews. They are very accurate. Perfect picture - forget about the 720P, that's all you will want Nice clear sound - I'm a little hard of hearing and this is easy to listen to Awesome tuning ability Very slow when surfing channels DVD works perfectly Very light Perfect for TV in a small room or RV Easy to set up and use Screen cannot be rotated up or down Has no quality equivalent in this size Costs less at Amazon than any poorer quality set at Walmart, Best Buy, etc. Make careful note of model number: 15LV505

I purchased this TV for our kitchen for my husband's birthday so he could watch his news and sports during dinner. I looked for a long time in the stores for a 15 inch small screen but they just were not out there. The 22 inch was just a little too big for our kitchen counter space. I looked on line for a few months also and kept coming back to this TV. The previous reviews seem great other than the one negative comment was always the delay when changing channels. We have the cable "On Demand" box with our main TV and the delay between channels on that is soooo annoying that I was leary of this TV, but decided it seemed to be the best for what we want. I have to say it is EXCEPTIONAL! The delay is not nearly as bad as with the "On Demand" - and really doesn't seem to be that big of a deal. The picture on this TV is unbelievable. We do not have it hooked up to an HD box - but I swear it looks like perfect HD. Amazingly good picture. Color is true and bright and the picture is sooo sharp. I would highly recommend this little TV. It is a great size for a kitchen counter or small space. We haven't tried the built in DVD player yet, but look forward to putting in a DVD of photos and using it as a photo frame/slide show when we have company.

We purchased this combination TV and DVD player for our 17' Casita travel trailer. So far, we've only used it in the DVD mode since we camped in remote sites where we do not get TV signals (we do not have satellite capability with our trailer...so unless there is a cable hookup where we camp, the DVD player is our main use). We DID try out the TV with our cable connection in the house before placing it in the trailer and we were happy with the picture and sound it produced. As far as the trailer, we particularly like this 15.6" set because it draws a mere 30 watts which is less than 1/2 the power of the prior 13" LCD set we used with a separate DVD player. We like the widescreen since this is the mode most often used on DVDs produced now and by using less watts, we can watch more movies without using up our battery power and having to recharge with the generator.

This was bought to replace an old CRT kitchen TV set. I will not go into the depth of detail others have written, except to say that this is a fantastic buy and is loaded with features that you would not expect to find at this price range. The picture quality is excellent and the sound is more than acceptable considering the size of the speakers. Some of the complaints involved the non-adjustable stand that holds the set at a 90 degree angle. I glued three pieces of heavy felt (1/4" thick) furniture pad buttons under the front of the TV stand and it kicks it back just enough to give you a better angle when viewing above the set. Another problem seemed to be the lack of a channel return button to go back to last viewed channel. It is on the remote and labeled "CH RTN", right under the pause button. What seems to be a another problem with many people is the time lag when changing channels with the digital tuner. If you directly enter the channel number and wait, it will take some time to react. To reduce the time lag, immediately after you enter the channel number, press "enter" on the remote. This will cut the time almost in half. In closing, this is a fantastic little set and worth every cent paid for it. Thankfully Amazon.com is out there showing us where the bargains and quality goods are. PS This is also available in white cabinet, too.

I just got this today. BEAUTIFUL picture, but when you get it, check which picture type it is set on. I noticed that writing on screen in a newscast was blurry and couldn't figure out why. Turns out it was on the Sports setting. Once I changed that and changed my Dish box to 720 vs 1080, everything cleared up. I can't say enough about the picture--I replaced a Sylvania 15-inch HDTV that I've had for a year or so. It had a pretty lousy picture quality. Haven't tried out the DVD player yet, but hoping it will be as good. I got a great deal (I think) at under $200. The only thing that is not perfect is that the stand--it is static and can't be tilted back or turned side to side. But once I got the TV into a good position for viewing that wasn't a terrible problem. The supplier sent it free 2-day shipping/no tax--although it wasn't Amazon but a 3rd party (Electronic Express). GREAT service!! I'll tell you that after days and days of snow and being stuck inside this TV is the best thing that has happened in days!! I did feel bad for the FedEx driver though... Edited to add that after having used this TV for a while, I am wondering why all the comments about the sound. The sound on mine is great and can be heard easily even when the dishwasher is running. In fact, I find myself turning the sound down often. Secondly, I finally made use of the DVD player to watch Julie&Julia. EXCELLENT!! Easy to use--push a button to switch from TV to DVD, pop in the DVD and off we go. I have also found that the immobile stand is not a problem. When I need a different angle, I just turn the TV in the viewing direction. Easy as pie. I think this is one super unit all the way around and am upping my rating to 5 Stars.
