I am a deer hunter on a budget, with the biggest constraint being time.I have two, two acre food plots which obviously need routine maintenance. I don't have the resources to have an atv or tractor to use for spraying. I have been getting by with the 2-Gallon hand sprayers. It would take me at least two hours to treat each food plot. Now that I have this it takes me at most 30mins for each. With this model you get three sprayer heads. One is a black pvc material- stream that is at max 25ft and tightens down to a fine mist for pesticide treatments. The brass head is the same other than being more durable. This backpack model comes with a red nozzle fan sprayer which means it will only spray until you are at 21psi. This is the best for treating my food plots as it is very efficient and has a steady continuous fan. With one full arm pump lasts 6 seconds at least. This is very worth the money and I highly recommend to all outdoor enthusiasts who need an efficient way to accomplish your management goals.

This sprayer more than exceeds my needs and expectations as a residential user. What was a design flaw noted in a previous review has been fixed (the pump handle being connected by one bolt, which was insufficient; it now has two bolts). Mine arrived with a damaged shut off assembly. Rather than return it via Amazon, I called Chapin directly. Their customer service was great. They quickly sent me a replacement assembly without any hassle or questioning. It took about four days to arrive, which was fine as the sprayer still worked with the damaged assembly. I had grown tired of hauling around a one gallon sprayer when tending to the trees and lawn on my quarter-acre lot. A four gallon sprayer may be a bit of overkill for my sized lot, but it's great to be able to treat everything without pausing for repeated refills. The sprayer is quite durably built and comfortable to wear; much better than the one gallon Home Depot specials I had been using. I would buy this again.

Broke down and purchased the unit after seeing on Amazon Deal of the Day sale. Glad I did, trucking the one gallon jug around for many years had gotten tiresome and limits the area to cover. Now living in Florida with a home and about 1/2 acre to cover, this unit works quite well. Like the extra filter to insure mixing is thorough before dispensing and preventing the nozzle from being clogged. As suggested for large area spraying, have switched to the constant spray nozzle and am pleased with the performance. Spray is even, thorough, and consistent. Using the pump handle is simple and the unit is well balanced on the back.

This sprayer is excellent! I am so impressed with its construction and features. I used it today to do my home's gravel parking area, about 150ftx50, that took about 2 gallons, then i did our 1400ft gravel driveway (the center of it). That took just about 4 gallons. Whats really nice is filling it up with cold water and glysophte concentrate and having a portable AC unit on your back while you spray. The nozzle it comes with, the red plastic one (you need the nut from the brass nozzel to make it work) is perfect. It has a pressure reducing valve in it, so if you pump it up to 90psi, or it gets down to 20psi, it sprays evenly. Once it gets to 20psi the sprayer stops spraying to prevent dribbling or even coverage. When i sprayed the center of our driveway the sprayer had about a 2ft spray width and i was able to do so at a walking pace. I could go about 40-50ft before needing to pump it up again. I ended up just pumping while walking and did the enture driveway in the time it took me to walk down it. The straps are solid and comfortabl to carry and the spray nozzle has an anti-fatigue handle that can lock in place. What's also nice is the fact the lid is not under any pressure. There's a separate bladder tank inside of the unit that holds sprayer pressure so you can safely removed lid to top off. This sprayer does not feel cheaply made at all. Though i cant comment on its reliability i can say it's very well made and was great to use.

I'm just a regular homeowner trying to keep my lawn (about 8K sq. ft.) green and weed free. Up until now, I have been using a hand-held sprayer that I purchased on Amazon. It has worked quite well. However, pumping consisted of taking the tank off my shoulder, pumping it up on the ground until it reached proper pressure, then putting it back on. Spray and repeat that every couple of minutes for an hour... It also came with a flimsy strap that cuts into your shoulder almost immediately. ENTER the Chapin Backpack sprayer! What a breeze this thing is compared to the hand-held. The back-pack style harness is a total back saver. I no longer get the customary back/neck/shoulder aches and pains trying to over compensate for a 3 gallon container on one shoulder. Also, the Chapin hand pump is almost effortless. It is way less laborious than my previous sprayer. Also, since you don't have to remove the pack, it has the advantage of being capable of continuous spray, as you add pressure while you dispense. The Chapin 61900 Backpack sprayer has turned the business of applying herbicides to my lawn from a chore into a reasonably therapeutic activity. PS - I have not experienced any leakage issues that I have read about in some of these other reviews. Although, admittedly, I do not expose mine to the same strenuous conditions as others probably do. Also, mine arrived with a nice scratch on the pressure gauge. I called Chapin, and they sent another one out immediately (no questions and free of charge). I had a whole new handle/gauge assembly within a matter of days. The company stands behind their product. Great (responsive) company and a great product!

Great product appears to be very well made. I mainly purchased this for smaller spraying jobs on our property when I didn't want to fill up the larger 50 Gallon sprayer. For it's intended purpose it worked very well. Assembly Unit came well packed and directions to assemble (which was very minimal) was easy to understand, mainly a screw for the pump handle and assembling the spray nozzle etc. To be honest my biggest frustration was the actual belt that is part of the strap, directions here were not very good and I had to keep referring to the pictures to make sure I got it right as it looked like things didn't align. Note the clips on the belt part clip on the side of the sprayer. I ended up also undoing and rethreading the actual strap because it got twisted. I was considering knocking off a star for this but decided that this could have just been a me problem. Weight Being 4 gallons I was concerned that this might be too heavy for my kids. Once filled up though it wasn't at all bad, I would image even my 13 year could have put this on if they needed to. I find 4 Gallons about right size for the jobs I needed to perform e.g. sprayed insecticide around entire house, sheds and gutters and had about .5 gallons left. Pressure This area was my biggest concern. In the past I purchased sprayers that required I constantly pump in order to maintain pressie. With the CFV installed I found the amount of pumping I had to do was well within reason and was able to keep the pressure up with minimal effort. General Construction Looks and feels very solid. Looking at the manual it looks like many of the parts can easily be replaced if there were problems here. In general I highly recommend this backpack sprayer.

This is a great product at a very good price. Other backpack sprayers costing very close to $100 are delivered with a plastic wand and tip whereas this sprayer has a Stainless Steel wand and a brass spray tip. it was not too difficult to adjust all of the harness to my size. the shoulder pads are nicely shaped and padded. The back/ waist belt was easy to attach and adjust as was the chest strap that helps keep the shoulder straps in place. As others have advised I went through all of the clamps and fittings and all of them needed to be snugged up. I filled the tank half full and pressurized to 30 PSI and allowed it to sit overnight. There was no leakage or loss of pressure so I refilled the tank with an herbicide and did some weed sraying. Three pumps are enough to provide enough pressure to spray. The spray tip was easy to adjust from a stream to a fine mist as conditions warranted. At one point I pumped enough to bing the pressure up to 40 PSI and was able to spray weeds at a distance I used more than a gallon of herbicide in complete comfort. I fully recommend this product

Ahh a sprayer that works! After a bit of rethreading twisted straps and getting the backpack adjusted comfortably for my frame, I first filled with plain water to check for leaks. Fantastic, no leaks right from the box. Now I don't like to spray insecticides unless absolutely necessary, but I've got Catalpa trees that get ugly Catalpa worms this time of year, and they just destroy those beautiful big leaves. This sprayer allows me the power and pressure to get the job done. I do have to use a 14 ft. step ladder to reach higher to the tops but nothing short of a full commercial motored sprayer would do that from the ground. You can add mix to the tank without getting a face full of air and poison, and the pressure gauge on the wand is great and useful. Do read the manual to know how to clean the filters and maintain the pump. Now I've got a sprayer to spray my fruit trees and squash bugs on vine crops that's quick and easy to use and should last many years. Parts look to be easy to get and replace should the need arise. Over all I'm very pleased with this unit. It beats the heck outta small hand held tank sprayers and no motor or batteries to mess with. If you've got a lot of trees or gardens to spray, this is an easy, cheap way to go. If I've got a lot of trees to spray, I just premix whatever in a 5 gal. bucket and pour over as needed.

For years I have wished I had a backpack sprayer for my 5 fruit trees and other house and yard work, but I could not justify the additional expense when I already had a Solo 2 gallon sprayer that worked fine. When I took on spraying my neighbor's trees to help her, I immediately ordered my Chaplin 61900 sprayer (after careful research). It has made my spraying so much easier and faster that I kick myself for not having done it sooner! No longer do I have to spray, pump, spray, pump, spray, pump, etc. I now pump as I walk along spraying, and the built in pressure gauge tells me how much pressure is in the tank. Thus my coverage is more consistent and the task takes less time. At 74 years of age I was a little concerned about the 34 pounds on my back, but new that I could just half fill it if it was a problem. I have a table I set it on and then slip into the harness, and I find the weight a non issue with the good strapping to properly support it. Today, while spraying for spiders, that as I finished up the seventh gallon, it was getting hard to pump.Having used it already for at least 8 hours already this summer I noticed immediately the added resistance. There are three screens in the system, and a quick check found the first two clean as a whistle. I had to take the hose off the handle to get to the third, but as soon as I did the cause of the problem was obvious. Some of the viscous spider chemical had not dissolved and had collected at this last screen. After cleaning the screen, the pump was again working well. Next time I use this chemical I will dissolve it thoroughly first. Don't wait until you have to have it. Buy it first. A quality, efficient piece of equipment.

I have owned this for just over 3 years. I have put lots of use on this and I like the ergonomics of the design. The straps and belt harness are comfortable and easy to get on and off. I have always carefully flushed and winterized this unit, and it has not given me any problems. I just got this out for the year, and found that a small plastic part on spray handle had broken, and the individual part was not listed in the parts list, just the complete assembly. I called the 800 number, spoke with customer service in the USA, and the part I need is on the way to me at no cost!. I would buy this product over and over for that reason alone. Great product, great customer service!
