Still cuts like new
The design is a bit unusual in that it cuts through the envelope from the back (or front depending upon orientation) near the upper edge rather than slicing through the upper edge but the blade is very sharp and efficiently cuts through the envelope. It works best if you gently tap the envelope contents to the bottom of the envelope before applying this letter opener. I highly recommend it.

Solid letter opener
Works like a charm. One trick it you have to know though is to tap the envelope before opening it against the desk so that the inside contents slide to the bottom leaving small gap at the top for the opener to do it's thing without also slicing the contents. Really love this little guy.

Works very well
Compact, light weight, easy to use, and no exposed sharp edges. You can use it on the sides or top of the envelope. The only difficulty I had was on the sides of envelopes with thick adhesive bands, but I just use it on the top on those. It has what looks like a slot for a little strap, about the size of a cell phone charm strap, which might make it possible to hang from a keychain or on a hook.

but I love the unobtrusive slit this opener makes
It's sometimes takes a little learning to keep the correct angle on certain envelopes, but I love the unobtrusive slit this opener makes.

Give it a fair chance
I am always amazed at the 1 star reviews, and it is most of time where someone just doesn't know how to use a product. I know sometimes you receive a defect but in most cases I believe it to be on the customer's end. This item worked the first time I used it. Tap the envelope down so the content is on the bottom. Then guide the letter opener, taking your time, along the top edge. It opens the envelope with a neat cut. Reviews are very important to me in my buying decisions but some negative reviews are just down right unfair and unjustified. I'm just saying.

I love this! I originally bought it for home use
I love this! I originally bought it for home use, but loved it soo much I brought it to work to use to open mail there. I just bought a second to use at home now. It works great!

Won't work on everything, but still delightful.
So there will be things every now and then that this struggles with, but this is been a great little tool for sorting through all my mail. I really like that I don't have to be mindful of a blade when using this, and can just go as quick as I like. It's good hard plastic, compact, and feels very minimalist. I've also yet to have it cut more than the outer envelope, so that's also another feather in its cap.

safer for small fingers, doesn't tear up the paper
What's cool about this is it's the same size as the other letter slicer devices but it doesn't insert anything into the letter flap, so you never get that tear that sometimes happens when you reach the last part across the top of the letter, and even better - if you keep this in your purse - you don't have to worry and wonder if the day will come that you reach in and slice your finger - like some of those other letter slicers that have a bit too much of a gap that a careless finger can get into. I will say though that this design requires you to get a stronger pinched grip on it than the other slicer types in order to hold it properly as you cut across the top of the envelope. This design having the cutting point inside the groove is probably more suited to those heavy-weighted or stuck-down cutters that sit on a desktop and you don't pick up while opening each letter. But as a portable and safe version it is great for what it is.

Does the Job
I thought this letter opener would be 5 times bigger. The photo online was deceptive. It works without batteries. It is very small. I hope it doesn't break down. I have an Adesso calculator/letter opener that got jammed. After removing the paper that got stuck for the 1000th time, it no longer works. I bought this ceramic black letter opener hoping it will last a long time. We will see.

I love this letter opener
I love this letter opener. I used to use the credit card-sized openers, but they would need to be replaced as the bottom arm tends to break on them. I purchased one of these to replace the broken opener at work one day because it looked interesting and I instantly fell in love. I ordered a second one for at home use. It efficiently opens a whole stack of mail with very little effort.
