Like many I have VHS tapes just collecting dust on the shelf. I was part of a news team in the 1990's and have some great footage never seen, and plan to put on you-tube, I googled them and was nothing, one video had 78 million hits, and mine is a better story wow!. Software is easy to follow and quick, purchased a 3TerraByte storage unit for my videos.

I shopped around a lot locally for this Roxio Easy VHS To DVD package and the local retail prices were nearly twice what I obtained this product for through Amazon. I was thrilled with the savings but was even more thrilled with the product. It installed easy and the user interface is very intuitive and easy to understand. What the packaging and tech specs don't tell you is that you can copy your VHS movies directly to your hard drive which allows you to edit and manipulate them before you burn them to DVD. The instructions merely point out that you can burn direct to DVD. So that was a big plus also. Could not be happier with my purchase!!! I would recommend this package to anyone who has VHS movies that they would like to convert to DVD.

the product worked exactly as advertised. the only issue i had was with the settings with using windows 7 instead of vista. the product defaults to vista settings and would not load the software upon loading the disk. the help screen on the website walked you through how to fix this. other than the little format hiccup, it has worked well.

I was looking for a product to transfer my old family VHS tapes to DVD. After reading the reviews of this product, I was a little sceptical as to whether this was any good. Because of the good price ($33.99), I decided to give it a try. The software was a snap to load and I was copying my tapes to DVD in no time. The quality is good using the composite cables. I would suspect it would be even better using the S-Video cable but my VHS player doesn't have one. I've made 8 DVD's from VHS so far. I'm not sure why there were so many negative reviews of this product. The included "getting started" guide doesn't give you much information but I was able to figure most things out quickly on my own. This product works great for me. I have Windows 7 on my PC. My PC is fairly new with an I7 processor and 8GB of memory so maybe that has something to do with my success.

Let me preface this review by saying that previously I had purchased another USB based device to do the video and audio capture from a VCR. Major issues were audio related. I could not capture the audio through the USB device, had to use line in. And the capture software could not synchronize the audio to the video when burning a DVD. Supposedly, this is a issue with the drivers and Win7. So when I went searching again for a capture device, I found the Roxio Easy VHS to DVD. At $40, I decided if it didn't work, not much lost. Installed the software with no problems. Popped in the first VHS tape, and within 90 minutes had burnt my first DVD, flawlessly, using cature to computer, then export to DVD. Only one issue. When I captured a home video, the DVD burn process was extremely slow - 3 hours for a 90 minute tape. I don't fault the software. The quality of the video was poor, and I suspect the issues were attempts to sync the sound to the image. In the end, the DVD quality does match the tape. You might consider addint an external hard drive to your system, as very large files are created. A 90-minute vidoe could be close to 5GBytes. Next project is to use the audio portion to capture decades of vinyl to Cd.

The Roxio Easy VHS to DVD software is very resource intense and requires way more than the specifications lead you to believe. I read with great interest evaluations that said it worked perfectly as described all the way to it was a piece of crap that never worked. I found that a 2.4 GHz P4 processor and 2gig of memory did not work. The audio was way out of sync and video was quite jerky. Operating this software in this configuration was far from satisfactory. Now the good news, running this Roxio software with 3 gig of memory and a dual core 2.0 GHz processor worked flawlessly. It worked as described in the documentation, with no issues. This tells you what won't work and what will. Probably some where between these machines is the breaking point but use this information as a guide. In all cases I was not running any other programs and I was copying the information to an external hard drive. The results did not change between Windows XP and Windows 7. Hope this information is of some use.

Product is as advertised

I was a little unsure if I should get this or not because of all the negative hype, but the expense of having my home videos digitized professionally made me take the risk. I'm glad I did, I've already saved hundreds of dollars with this very easy to use software. I'm starting to believe the people that gave this thing a negative review have no business using a computer let alone conversion software. My only recommendation would be to also buy an external hard drive to store your movies on. I'm already up to about 400 gigs worth of videos and was happy I made the extra investment.

I have worked with this type of program before, but never really utilized it in time, before it couldn't be installed on a certain Windows version. This worked great on Windows version 7 Home Premium. I now have all my videos of people I've lost in the past on DVD and am SO happy and relieved. I came along one VHS-C that was too degraded to salvage, but at least I got all the ones of my grandfather and daughter, which were very important to me. The older program made me frustrated enough that I quit trying and had I not come across this program, they very well may have gone the same way as the one VHS-C I lost the content on due to age and deterioration! Thank you Roxio for making such an awesome program!!

This product does what it advertises: Easy cnverting VHS tapes to DVD. It's as easy as hooking up the wires to the computer and the VHS VCR, and playing the video into the computer. (you do have to supply either male-to-male RCA video transfer wires or S-VHS wires) After that, it's pretty much 2 or 3 clicks and it's burning off the DVD. Final quality of the DVD is very good. I did find that if you use a recordable DVD that is much larger than the video you're putting onto the DVD, you get better quality, than if you just fill up the disc. (just like the speed choice of VHS tape - faster is better, slower gets more onto a tape, but, not as good image quality. In this case, the larger the recordable DVD as compared to the size of video you're putting onto the DVD, the better the quality of the recording.) I'd recommend this product to anyonoe who wants to preserve any old VHS tape by putting it onto a DVD.
