I bought this for my 4 year old daughter, she's been watching "The Magic School Bus" on Netflix and has since been really interested in the human body. She'll walk into he room and say, "Look Mom! My bones and muscles are holding me up!" She also has an older sister that has cerebral palsy, and she understands that her sisters muscles don't work like other kids. She loves being able to see all the different layers of the body. **One thing that caught me off guard was the different boy and girl parts. The organs and skin layers have girl parts and boy parts.** Wasn't a big deal for me, as we have always taught the atomically correct names for boys and girls private parts, and my kids understand the differences between them. I just thought I would mention it so you know what you're getting.

Love this for home schooling and introducing body systems, also love that is anatomically correct in a non startling or overly graphic way. My 6 yr old daughter thinks it is cool and she got to see the skeletal structure in another view after getting to see an x-ray since she broke her toe. Very well made. Great value. 1st grader. Also. The organs differ male to female as well not just genitalia.

I think these magnets are great, my only complaint would be that the body itself is not magnetic even though all the other pieces are. It does come with a little stand for the body, but this is my second set of M&D magnets so I made the same addition to this one as I did last time- I happened to have some large magnetic sheets (they're supposed to be magnetic floor bent covers but I don't use them) I cut them into the shape of the body and glued them on with a strong epoxy. Now all the pieces can live on the fridge!

I homeschool my kiddos and this was the perfect addition for our anatomy unit. My eldest is using a squishy guts model and we got this Melissa and Doug magnetic “toy” for our four year old whom we are starting preschool for. The lesson was a hit! This is a toy that we will revisit numerous times to cover all the different systems. I picked it because it’s anatomically correct and wanted an age appropriate way to discuss the male and female parts. Like others have mentioned, this needs a lid!!!! Seriously! I’m considering getting a letter tray so that we can sit this horizontally to avoid losing parts while still maximizing space. That way, we can use the other letter tray slots to hold other similar non-lided wooden toys and puzzles. I also wonder if Melissa and Doug’s wire puzzle rack holder would work for this. I may look into getting one If this review was helpful, please leave a thumbs up 👍🏼

As other reviews have stated, this set is definitely anatomically correct! I love that it includes both male and female anatomy. Children have questions and it's wonderful to be able to teach them with something that is age appropriate. Also, as others have stated, "Why, Melissa and Doug, do you create such great sets WITHOUT a cover to keep the pieces in the wonderful wooden boxes?" I have a drawer that is dedicated to the 4 sets that we have, thus keeping the pieces in their proper place. But I don't understand why they don't come with at least a cardboard cover. If these were used in a preschool or elementary school setting, the pieces wouldn't have a chance of finding their way home! Aside from that, I love this set. Highly recommend to any who wish to teach their child or grandchild about the human body.

We homeschool so I bought this for my preschooler & 2nd grader to use while we study the human body this year. It's well made like all Melissa & Doug puzzles and they already love it. Just an FYI, though- it does have a vagina, penis, & the coordinating reproductive system. We have 2 daughters and a son so this isn't a problem for us because having a 1 year old boy running through the house naked evading his diaper change, they know what a penis is haha but important for adults who may not want their daughters learning about penises in preschool or vice versa.

Fantastic! I was originally looking for an X-ray type puzzle to help teach basic anatomy to my toddler when I stumbled upon this. I love that it gives a visual for bones, muscles and major organs as well as very basic (external) male/female anatomy. We're beginning to have conversations about privacy and inappropriate touch, so I'm grateful to have an engaging toy that will help with those discussions. Thank you, Melissa and Doug!!!

I wish there was some kind of lid on this nice wooden box. I'd be happy with a see-thrust plastic paper kind or even just a cardboard lid. Just something that fits the top of the box to keep all the pieces together. The doll with their varying sets of skeleton(bones), muscles, circulatory(blood system) with the heart, & major body organs including the body's largest organ (the skin) as a whole separate set of pieces (1set for male & 1 for a female child.) It is really pretty thorough in it's labeling, diagrams and explanation of anatomy for a beginner. As you expect with Melissa & Doug, this is a very sturdy, durable, hands on learning "toy" that can be utilized by children right on through high school. You know how we learn something when we're young & a few years later can't remember just what that was unless you use it frequently? This set is something a child can enjoy when they are 4-6 years but use again to refresh their mind when they're 8-12 years and possibly again between 14-18 years when you learn more about the human body. It would be ideal as a birthday party gift for almost any age.

I purchased this set for my 5 year old son who received a doctor set for Christmas and has been very interested in what's inside his body, this has been a great teaching tool! It's anatomically correct, too, which has been great showing him how girls and boys differ both inside and out. There's a body that shows muscles, one for veins, two for organs (one with penis and testicles, and one with a uterus and ovaries), two with naked bodies (one with a penis, one with a vagina), then two sets of clothing! It also includes a base and the main body is a skeleton, plus it all comes in a nice tray with sections for everything. This is such a great learning tool for young kids, it's fun and informative! I would absolutely recommend this product!

My grandson loves this "toy." I bought it because of his interest in a "My Body" book that was his mother's when she was little. She's now a doctor and attributes that book to her early interest in anatomy. He's three and can tell you all about the skeleton, muscles, blood vessels, and organs, as well as the proper names for body parts. It's a great learning tool.
