VERY Consistent

I purchased this a little too late, unfortunately. I have an interlock device in my car because of a one-time offense. It will cause a "fail" with anything at a 0.02 or higher. The interlock device is re-calibrated every month similar to what law enforcement requires. Since it is impossible to predict when you hit 0.02 if you have had a drink, this is crucial. I pushed my luck once to see how close it was to a $1,000 device and blew when the S80 said 0.018. It passed. I don't care to try that again. Subsequent tests are also consistent. I'm not sure why some reviews talk about excessive pressure and time for subsequent tests. There is a little ball in the tube that normalizes airflow that can get gummed up due to moisture. If this happens, blow REALLY hard and fast prior to pressing the button in order to release it or use a fresh tube. Second, the wait time varies due to evaporation of alcohol from the fuel cell. If you blow a higher number, the wait time for a secondary test will be 10-20 seconds longer. If you find yourself waiting a minute or more, you should likely have a chem eval or stop drinking under supervision. Lastly, the time to compute your BAC also depends on your consumption. It's usually 5-10 seconds for anything at or below 0.10. Blow time is close to 4-5 seconds versus the 7-8 seconds with an interlock device (you may also have to inhale or buzz). The pressure is adjustable as well. I use this myself to make sure I don't cause a "fail" on the interlock device also to make sure friends are safe to drive. Well worth the money for the quality.

I am so glad I bought this breathalyser

I am so glad I bought this breathalyser. Why? I shall explain... When buying a breathalyser, it really only has one job: accuracy. Any inaccurate breathalyser no doubt does more harm than good. I needed a breathalyser. A combination of my industry having many alcohol-infused social outings combined with the fact that any driving offence would render my career over. I just simply could never drink-drive, ever. So, the breathalyser sat in my glove box, and if I was ever over (or close to), there was no driving for me. Now, the accuracy, It just so happens in my industry (in my role) we were in charge of breathalysing participants on a regular basis. Due to the high-risk nature, we had to ensure all participants were 0.0. We used an incredibly expensive breathalyser worth around $1500 (police standard) that had to get recalibrated every six months. So, I used to have a few drinks, try our professional breathalyser, and then try my BacTrack. The results? Pretty well much identical. Typically, when one would read .031, the other would read .032 (if not exactly the same number). They would be very, very close. That gave me the confidence that the Bactrack is that accurate.

Great product

I don’t know about all these other reviews but this bac reader has worked very well for me and probably saved me from countless amount of trouble. This is my second one. The first still works great and has over 600 uses. I got the second one to do a cross comparison. If it says .000 you are sober lol. Some of the mid range readings can be a little off. But for my use it only tells you .000 when you are totally sober.

Great for IIL & All Drinkers - 1. GET THIS AND USE IT 2. Make sure you look up your state laws and understand them

I recently got an IIL installed in my car, this is extremely helpful and gives me a peace of mind. You'd be surprised how long alcohol stays in your system. I had 3 drinks (regular sized) one night after work and the next morning blew a violation on my device. I did a lot of research before buying and debated buying a cheaper device. After reviewing I decided that between the violation fees and the feeling of embarrassment having to go get the car serviced I would get this product. I received it timely and the first night had two glasses of wine, next morning before work blew 0.00 and did the same thing the next day with the same result. However, the third day of using the device I had the same 2 glasses of wine with dinner, and the next morning blew .05 which would have been a violation (Which I had my spouse blow to make sure it wasn't a bad reading and he did not drink the night before and he blew 0.00). I did nothing different, it's just that your body is different and certain unknown factors can make it process things differently. I definitely recommend spending a little more to get an effective tool. I know some people may read this and judge me for the IIL, but let's be honest 95% of drinkers have driven when they shouldn't have. The laws are getting stricter and if you have not gotten a DUI I recommend you get this product. $120 for the product and a $25 dollar uber ride is a lot less than the shame and cost of a DUI. I got my DUI almost 2 years ago, and I am still paying for it. I didn't harm anyone when I got it, in fact, I was parked in a parking lot. It can happen to anyone! The reason I got the book thrown at me was I refused to submit to chemical testing, which is an automatic DUI and in my state on top of a completely separate charge and suspension for refusing. So in summary; GET THIS AND USE IT, make sure you look up your state laws and understand them. If I did both of those things 2 years ago I'd be $6,000 richer, and feel the stigma of "being in the system".

Great BAC tester

One of the best purchases i've ever made. Bought a few lower end models in the past and wasn't very happy. After ordering this tester I realized what I was missing. Not only does this tester measure to the thousandths place, it also has features to ensure the most accurate measurement possible. If you don't make a seal around the mouthpiece, it lets you know. If you don't blow evenly enough, it lets you know. This is comes in a nice case that travels well.

As one of the lucky moronic Americans who caught a dui, I bought a cheap breathalyzer so I would be SURE I was all 000s when starting my car with the sober engine lock or whatever its called. Well man, 40 bucks dont cut it. I would get readings of .05 dead sober and sometimes .19 when I had had like 3 beers! NOT THIS ONE! Its accurate, you dont have to wait 40 seconds or more like many others, its about 12 seconds, and as long as you wait 15 minutes since youve had a drink, its accurate and on point. When this says 000s, I can start my car KNOWING Im not going to get any more violations. And if youre a partier who thinks youll never get caught, took me to age 34, but I GOT CAUGHT. Glad I did, changed my life, my attitude and made me thankful I didnt kill anyone. I drove drunk all my life, didnt care. MAN the week in jail was lame, and all the classes and stuff are just money for the state, but now I can say with 100% honesty, I will not drive if I have had ANY alcohol ever again. And thank God I didnt hurt anyone. Lesson learned, and this is the bet breathalyzer Ive ever owned, it also goes quite high, most stop at .19, I think this one does up to .40? And for the true alchoholics out there, we all know .19 feels like a light buzz. Great buy, quality, and case! Ive had 2 beers this evening in the past hour or two and im a nice legal .021. BUT IM STILL NOT DRIVING! And if you do buy, the mouthpieces you blow in fit tightly, you dont have to force it, be gentle!

We use this all the time and works if you can withstand eating/drinking or smoking for the 15 mins before you blow to make it accurate. It took me a lot of investigating and research to finally pick this one and I am glad I did.
