Love This Banjo
I absolutely love this instrument! What a bargain! I wanted to learn Irish Tenor banjo, so I did change the strings to G-D-A-E with no problem. It's nice and light and easy to handle with a shorter neck than my 5-string making it much less cumbersome. I would highly recommend this banjo, especially for a beginner. I must point out, though, that it is NOT a resonator. It is open-back.

Great banjo!
I am a beginner, so I may not be an expert on the subject, but I think this is a great banjo for the price. It has a nice sound, is good looking, and I absolutely love it. Doesn't have a "cheapy" look or feel about it. It shipped promptly, and arrived in good condition, which, of course, is a bonus.

and I couldn't be happier with the tone
I've owned mine for about 4 years now, I play Clawhammer/frailing style on it, and I couldn't be happier with the tone, durability, and its ability to hold its tuning. I was really worried it wouldn't stack up well against my Washburn B9r (r=resonator) which has a wood tone ring compared to the Rovers hard plastic, but even playing Scruggs style I like my Rover, especially while playing with others because it doesn't overpower the other instruments. Also, it is extremely light weight so it makes it very portable. All in all, for the price, this is a Great beginner banjo.

Good Basic 4-String Banjo
Neck is aligned well. Frets are good. no-frills resonator looks nice and projects well. Tuning pegs work like they should. Ultralight strings make note bending easy.

For an Open Back banjo, "GET IT."
Hey, If you know how to play a little bit, or want to learn. This is an excellent beginning. I had to use my Snark tuner to bring it up to tune of D,B,G,D,G, took 10 minutes of twiddling, then off to the plinking tunes. It is very well made, having no problems, looks nice, very light. I'm a year and a half beginner, enjoy every hour of learning tunes via tablature, or by ear, or make up tunes. Recommend Wayne Erbsens book ie, for Ignoranuses, to enhance your enjoyment. But this is a great value banjo, for ANYONE.

A fine choice...
I didn't know anything about banjos but my wife's always wanted one so I got her this one because it was "right priced." She didn't know anything about banjos either but she likes this one and she does play other musical instruments so she's way ahead of me. She checked this banjo out with some people who do know banjos and apparently this banjo is a good banjo for beginners and beyond. Apparently the string tightener mechanisms having the kinds of gears they do makes them better than expected for a less expensive banjo so that seems to be a sign of better quality than some cheap banjos might have. I do know that it sounds good in the hands of someone who plays well. Hopefully it will also sound good when my wife plays it too ;-)

Great starter Banjo
Great starter Banjo. had to user wood glue to get the tuning peg on the 5 string back into the neck, but that wasn't hard to do and is considered a common issue.

Wow!!
I have played guitar for years and bought this as my first banjo and am so pleased. It came well packaged and also includes a soft "gig bag" covering the banjo. The thing sounds great and plays well, I don't in any way feel lacking in playing this banjo. The action and intonation is fine and the tone is more than acceptable. Really, Really fun and EASY to play. I actually think after playing guitar and ukulele the banjo is by far an easier instrument to play. Great beginner or first instrument. The Rover is clean and understated in presentation, well made and I don't doubt it will hold up. Can't say enough especially given this price. UPDATE after two years of use: Yep it's a keeper!! Plays really great but a few suggestions; I replaced the bridge with a Moon compensating bridge and better strings, that really, really improved the tone. The other thing is I tightened the truss rod and lowered the action by 1) using a hack saw blade to take down the nut and 2) if you tighten the rod in the back it will lower the action on the other end. I can't say enough how much better she plays and sounds with these additions. Enjoy your Rover!!!
