- In a frantic battle to the checkered flag, Sonic and friends speed around tracks set in mediaeval castle ramparts, lush rainforests and bustling cities, all taken from the visually rich and varied universes of Sonic and SEGA.
- Secret short cuts, swift handling and avoiding strategically placed obstacles are certainly the best way to get to the top of the podium…
- Each character has a specific All Star move – such as Super Sonic, Banana Blitz and Tails Tornado – that allows a quick way for competitors to get back into the race!
- Power ups and weapons can also be collected around the tracks and used against the opposition to ensure they don’t become a threat to that number one position.
- Battle it out in single or multiplayer mode, allowing up to four friends to race in frantic split-screen action, or up to eight players to compete online in the ultimate racing showdown.

A worthy rival to Mario Kart
Finally there is a game that can compete head to head with Mario Kart as a fun mascot racing game. Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing is a fun racing game that anyone can pick up and play right away. There is a very good selection of racers at the start as well as many unlockable ones which provides an incentive to keep playing. Despite being easy to jump right into, it can also provide a challenge on the higher difficulties. The game contains a fun and interesting selection of tracks based on various Sega franchises, with Sonic being the most represented. There are also a good selection of game modes. The usual cup races which gives points based on which place you finish in each of four races, with the highest total being the winner is the standard. It also includes Time Trial, Single Race, Multi-player modes of most of the other modes, and a Mission mode which gives you a unique task to do on the various courses. There is a lot to play here. If you like racing games with weapons and powerups I would recommend this game.

Fun For People of All Ages
This game is fun for everyone in my family and a good group activity. Its easy enough that even children or older less talented gamers will be able to play and enjoy it. The graphics are beautiful. The tracks range from easy to advanced. The content is vast and easily unlockable for people of all skill levels. You earn points by racing and then spend those on tracks and characters. Its great because you get to choose the order you unlock things in and can get the stuff you really want first. Many different characters to play as. Very fun "all star" special ability that is different for each character and really helps you out if you suck haha. If you like CTR or Mario Cart you will love this. Very fun racing game. Highly recommend it.

... my 8 year old daughter that we would both like. We both really like Sonic Sega All-Stars
I was looking for a game to play with my 8 year old daughter that we would both like. We both really like Sonic Sega All-Stars. Two player mode uses a split screen and is very fun to play. There are lots of "race tracks" to try out and several non-racing games (for example one where you have to grab and item with your car and then return it to your circle before the other player clobbers you and makes you drop it). There are lots of fun characters/cars to choose from. Music/announcer is fun.

This kart racer takes the gold!
Sonic And Sega All-Stars Racing is a Kart Racer that can stand its ground next to Mario Kart, Crash Nitro Kart, and other kart racers. It's a solid, fun, and frantic game that you'd want to take weeks off to play if you're a fan of racing. Normally this is where I discuss the story, but no, there is none, so onto the gameplay. As stated, Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing is a kart racer that puts players into the shoes of Sonic, Tails, Shadow, Amy Rose, and other sega favorites as they race against the others to win the gold cup, using a variety of weapons and items to get an edge. With tight, simple controls, anyone can jump into the fun. Each car plays differently. Some cars are wicked fast but don't handle well on rough terrain, while others can fly over said rough terrain smoothly, but aren't that fast. Play as every racer to see which one suits you best. Speaking of, you have no shortage of characters to race as, but depending on which version you pick up, you may get more or less. The Wii version features your Mii as an extra racer, the Xbox 360 version has your Xbox Live avatar and Banjo Kazooie as playable characters, along with some DLC for two extra racers and an extra track. The PS3 version may have the DLC but that's it. My vote goes to the Xbox 360 port as the definitive version, so dust off your old 360 and get into the fun. There are about twenty tracks, spanning several sega games, like Sonic the Hedgehog, House of the Dead, Super Monkey Ball, Samba De Amigo, and more. Most of the racers and tracks are locked when you start the game, though. So how do you unlock them? With Sega Miles. These are the game's currency, and you win them by playing. Playing well will net you a lot, and playing poorly will net you just a few. You can grind for them to unlock everything, and you probably should if the default racers aren't your best ones. There's also plenty of weapons to use on the track, just like in Mario Kart. Boxing gloves, rockets, stars that flip your world upside down (literally) and more. And if you're really getting dominated, you may get lucky and the the All Star. Every character has an all star, and if used properly, it can mean the difference between first and last place. Try not to waste these, and if used correctly, you can destroy the competition and win the gold cup. The same can happen to you however, and it can be frustrating when on the last lap the AI pulls some cheap shots and you fall from first to last. This has happened, and while it's rare (at least on the easy mode) it can happen and it'll frustrate you when it does. On top of that, not all of the tracks are simple and straight forward. Some have hairpin turns, cliffs to fall off of, and other traps to confound you. I have had more than one instance where I was owning the race, only to make a small mistake, not being able to correct in time, and had to watch in dismay as I went from first to dead last. Even worse, a lot of this was on the final lap. Also, the game has a drift mechanic and you'll want to get good at it. You'll soon discover just how many races are won by who the better drifter is. And the longer you drift, the bigger boost you get, you can charge up to three levels, and this can make or break your shot at first place. With practice you'll learn when best to drift, and be able to steer around obstacles without ever getting hit. However, drifting in the wrong spot can cause you to veer off the edge. Ask me how I found that out. But this is a crucial skill to master, so practice up or it's the sliver cup for you. If you are having trouble with a track, you can purchase it with your sega miles and practice in the time trial. In this mode, you are not limited by a set number of laps like in Mario Kart, you can run the track as many times as you please, and you are given a generous time limit, so you really have to try to run out of time. There are also ghosts to race, staff ghosts and ghosts of other players on the leader boards, where you can try to beat them. Totally optional of course, but you cannot turn them off, at least I haven't found a way. And yes, you get Sega Miles here too, just not as many. The game even has a mission mode, where you are given an objective and the better you do, the higher your rank. Higher ranks give more sega miles and also unlock more events, so practice up because some of these are just tricky as heck. You can also gather your friends and play together. I myself have not tested this mode, so I cannot speak for its quality as a multiplayer game, but I am sure with the right friends it can be a heck of a time. However, there are a few snags in the works. For one thing, this game was not able to escape the wrath of glitches. For example, in one track, I don't remember which, I was driving quickly, owning the race. The track curved up into a ramp, and instead of going up it, I clipped through it and died, having to reset and setting me back. Though I've only seen it once, I could imagine it destroying your chances of winning first if it happens at a bad time. And there are times when the AI just does not want to be your friend. You can go from peacefully driving to being bombarded by attack after attack at the drop of a hat, and fall back a fair bit in the process. The presentation is awesome too. The graphics are crisp and clean, bright and colorful in some tracks, while the tracks from the grittier games are darker and more dismal. You can buy music and pick a different song for certain tracks. The vehicles are all distinct enough that you can tell who's is who's without having to see the driver. The voice acting is spot on, and there is an announcer for the racing modes. He does have some funny lines, but he does repeat himself a lot, and you can turn him off if you get tired of him. Overall, Sonic and Sega-All Stars Racing is one heck of a good time. I'm not even a huge racing fan, but this game keeps me coming back for more. Tight controls, fun and frantic racing, a multitude of modes, and multiplayer to boot, this is the game for you if you're hurting for a new Kart Racer. But with the lack of Content in the PS3 version, I'd say steer clear of it unless it's the only option you have. The Xbox 360 version is the winner in my book, but you'll be the winner if you pick this bad boy up. And it did well enough to get a sequel, but that's for another day.

Very fun for family with 5 year old
I bought this game, wanting an 'easy' racing game that my husband and I could play with our 5 year old son. I bought it on Xbox after reading a review stating it was easier to control with Xbox than Wii. We LOVE this game. Very very fun. My 5 year old son can crash as many times as he wants and still gets to finish the race (or come close). He also loves that he gets to 'shoot' us with bombs etc. that you pick up on the track. He loves the characters as well. With the 'specials' that each character can get if they are close to last place, he has even come in at 1st place a few times and beat us! He was soooo proud. :) I really like this game, very fun simple racing game that any age could play I think. Great price and great purchase!!

Kids love it.
I wish I had 2 more hands, so I could give this game 4 thumbs up. I bought it for a group of kids and they love playing it. Easy multiplayer mode so that 2 of them can play at once. Might even be more than that, but we don't have enough remotes so I don't know for sure. Just disregard the last sentence. Awesome for two kids for sure.

A Great Racing Game! Honest Review
I downloaded this demo and it was so much fun I decided to buy it. If you love "Kart" games and are a SEGA fan like myself, then this game is for you. I think this game is WAY more fun then any of the recent Mario Kart games and has a massive amount of fan service. You can play as almost everyone from the Sonic universe and each has a unique special move. My personal favortie is Ryo Hazuki from the beloved Shenmue series. It also has other characters from various dreamcast titles. The gameplay is awesome and the controls are very responsive. Each track was developed with exquisite detail in every part of the map. The soundtrack is fun and catchy and also very nostolgic. Not only will this game appeal to the SEGA fanboy but it fun for the whole family (cheesy, but true). Online racing is very fun it is great to make friends with other SEGA fans. I am being totally unbias in my opinion and giving a very honest review. (It's not like SEGA is paying me or anything. Hell we dont even have a Shenmue 3. I need closure!) Anyhow, this is an overall great game. I hope you wont be dissappointed. I wasn't.

The Ultimate Arcade Racing Game
As a fan of Mario Kart, I must admit that I didn't exactly love Mario Kart Wii, but I still found it to be a good arcade racing game. Then SEGA came along with Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing. Not only has SEGA brought along all of its awesome mascots to dig its nostalgic hooks in me, they also put out an excellent game that stands on its own. First of all, the Xbox 360 version is the way to go since it has extras like Banjo & Kazooie, etc. In addition, you have a huge roster of classic SEGA characters. All of them have their own different feel, as their vehicles all handle a little bit differently. The levels are intricately designed and look downright stunning in high-definition. As you go along, you'll gain the ability to unlock a boatload of goodies, such as new characters, new tracks, new music tunes, etc. It's a meaty package with a lot to see and do. Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing comes highly recommended. This is an excellent game.

Great game for Mario Kart lovers!
My husband wasn't a big videogamer until I got him hooked on Mario Kart a few months ago. Then he began wondering if there were any similar games out there he could play, that involved cartoony characters and neat, varied courses with big jumps. After searching high and low (and trying some pretty lame games) I finally bought Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing and it is a blast!! The thing he likes most about it, besides the fun of the racing, is the fact that you don't have to win cups to unlock characters and other courses. You rack up what are called Sega Miles, and you get those by playing anything, even time trials. You buy new courses, characters, and music with the Sega Miles. There are several modes of play. There are the standard cup races, of course, and then there are time trials. There is also a single-race option, where you only race one race, and if you win you get a ton of miles. Also, there is a challenge mode where you have different goals to accomplish to move on to the next challenge. And there are multiplayer options as well but since we only have one controller I haven't tested those out. The characters are fun, the vehicles very different and neat, and the courses are a blast. It is easy to steer and use the power-ups, and the music is peppy. My husband still prefers Mario Kart, but he ranks this game a very close second. Highly recommended!!
