I'm getting up there in my years, and I've just started needing reading glasses to read the paper. I used to love playing Advance Wars and Fire Emblem on my "Game Boy Micro". But now, I need glasses to see the small stuff. (By the way ... If you have great eyes, and like extreme portability, you may want to find a used Micro if you can. ;-) I love to lay on the couch while I watch sports ... while I play my DS. The bad part for me is that I don't need my glasses to watch TV, but I need them to play the DS. I look up to watch sports, and the TV is all blurry due to my reading glasses. Then I heard about the monster screen on this puppy, and I got to thinking ... maybe I can play my DS without my glasses? Well, let me tell you ... I love this thing. The screen is huge!!! I can play games like Fire Emblem, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest etc. all without my reading glasses. If you have a DS or DSi already, and can read the screen fine, I'm not sure you really need this. My kids think it's too big. But if your eyes are going bad ... then I highly recommend this.

I have had a nintendo ds lite for several years. Recently I saw the reviews on line for the Nintendo XL, and really thought about it. I play my Nintendo regularly, and enjoy puzzle games, which can be a bit tiny to see on the Lite. A few weeks back, I went ahead and purchased the XL. I LOVE IT! I can see all the detail in every game I have, and am even playing selections on some of my games that I just could not see the details well enough to play before (Mah Jong). I am extremely happy with my purchase, and the overall quality of the Nintendo systems has always impressed me. I am playing my puzzles even more than ever now, and am very happy I tried the XL. I highly recommend....if you even think every once and awhile, "wow, this ds lite screen is small for this", the XL is for you! You will not be sorry....I know I am very pleased with my purchase! One of the reviews had mentioned the size of the XL is much larger, and as a result much heavier to hold while playing it. I do agree that the XL wieght difference was noticible at first, but after a few days with it, I do not notice it as any heavier or bulkier to play than the Lite. I think it just took a little adjustment.

I was growing increasingly tired of tablet gaming. Touch screen games just were not giving me what I wanted, but I knew I wanted a portable system. After some research, I realized that the DS library was filled with a lot of great RPGs and platform games, which is what I was looking for. I checked the 3DS library too, but found little there to warrant spending the extra money, so I bought this instead. I am very pleased with this hardware. Even though it is made of all plastic and the top part feels a little flimsy, there is a lot to love here. The interface is fun. Just messing around with the camera is surprisingly entertaining. The larger screen, when compared to the regular DS, is a welcome change. The controls feel good in my adult hands. I love that there is a little slot for a stylus. Having a choice of colors is great. I prefer the bronze color, as it allows the DS fit well among my other hardware (tablet and phone). It has an SD card slot, which is great for downloading software. Most DS titles are relatively cheap. However, this unit cannot play older Gameboy Advanced games as the original DS can. I only have two concerns. First, if the 3DS library grows to the point where I start to see titles there that I really want, I might have to sell this and upgrade. Second, the way the unit accesses the internet and user accounts is not as slick as what we find on the PS3 or Xbox 360. This is a problem with Nintendo's online services overall and not necessarily a knock against the DS, but it is something that I feel Nintendo should address. As is, I am having an absolute blast with this system.

Last year while my mom was visiting she wanted to play solitaire on the computer. One of my kids showed her how to play card games on his Gameboy. She was hooked and bought her own Gameboy, which she plays every night until the batteries run out. She plays word games, Brain Age, Club House and other games. Her problem is that she has Parkinsons, and she shakes and had trouble hitting the right cards, letters, gems, etc. I bought the XL for her and she loves it! It is easier for her to see the screen and easier for her to hit the right spots. She told me that is it easier to use. I only wish that Nintendo would market one to older people rather than to younger kids. I think the games that came preloaded are for little kids, not for my mom. She plays it in the doctors waiting room and before she goes to sleep. I don't know if it is helping her cognitive functions or her hand/eye coordination, but she is having fun!

I'm 64, and my wife isn't (but she's close). I have been able to see the smaller items on a DS Lite better than she could. The XL's screen size, though is great for both of us. Mah-jongg tiles and smaller pieces in any game are much easier to see and match. My wife loves to play card games and she had a problem with seeing the card identifiers on the DS Lite. The XL, though, lets her see the cards clearly so she can play. The weight is a factor, but I think the problem is getting used to holding it more than the weight itself. Had the first DS been this size and weight, I doubt either would have been an issue. It's just a matter of adapting to something different. We am very impressed with the sound. We both have hearing loss and the music and voices are much, much clearer on the XL than DS Lite. The cameras take better quality photos than we expected. That was a big surprise. We do not have wireless, so I can't speak to those features. The included games are fun, and we will play them, but they were not the reason we bought the one XL (and we're considering a second). The main draw for us was the larger size and we couldn't be more pleased. If you are a senior try an XL. The difference is amazing. And, there are many great games that are fun for folks a bit older (though many more could and should be if the game designers were interested in a huge market). Since it's unseemly for folks our age to fight over toys, I'm pretty certain another XL will be ordered soon. (As a side note, I have seen discussions about screen protectors. I bought the Hori and had no trouble installing them and the stylus works great with them. I've reviewed it on Amazon at the link below.) Nintendo DSi XL Screen Protective Filter

I ordered this as a used item, never having seen the XL in person before. I was delighted. The device is fairly heavy with a weighted bottom, giving it stability. The tops opens and clicks into several positions, and stays there. The screens are larger than the regular Nintendo DS and make a big difference in seeing cards and small objects. The engineering on this thing is a marvel, with the small stylus fitting (and clicking into place) on the bottom of the device so neatly that I had a hard time finding it at first. The audio is good; the level is adjustable, and you can turn it off. I had no trouble connecting to my wireless internet to check for updated software. This is a well made device that should last me for years, even though its used, since I'm an adult and will be playing it only occasionally. The Nintendo fits into my purse, too! I just love this "toy." I bought some used brain exercise games (which all work great!), and a couple of games just for fun. This will be great to take with me on the go, in addition to just playing at home when I have free time or want to escape. I recommend this device for the adult crowd over the regular size Nintendo, for those who like games. It's easier on the eyes and there are a lot of games to choose from, many of which you can get used & save money. Warning: It's not a pc, so don't expect the same sort of game experience.

I just got home from work and couldn't wait to play with my new Burgundy DSi XL. First off it is a deep burgundy color, not pink, not purple, more like merlot so both guys and gals will be ok with the color. I finally had to stop playing so I could give it a full charge. I played the Brain Age game that was included and it is just like the Brain Age games of past. I am a 50 plus female and it is nice to be able to see the screen much better. I did notice that it is a little tiring holding it for a long period of time but I am sure I will get used to it. All I can say is this is money well spent. I am going on a long vacation later this year and I am taking this with me for all that time in the air.

I owned a Nintendo DS-Lite for almost 2 years (a pin broke leaving it physically unusable so I suggest buying protection plans ). Being pregnant twice and on bed rest a short while both times due to medical issues and a broken toe it was a life saver. I purchased the XL after reading the reviews and I am pleased I did. I look at the old screen and don't know how I played games on that thing lol. I could of opted for the new 3ds but people who owned the XL said they regretted going back to small and some even lost money and traded back anyway. The features are wonderful, and even as an adult I play with the camera functions all the time. My kids ham it up and I snap photos. If you have 2-3 100watt bulb lamps on you'll get pretty decent pictures actually which surprised me. I do not miss having the gameboy slot for older cartridges, I only had maybe 7 reg gameboy advance games anyway. I love that it came with brainage games already loaded, I use them daily. I chose the bronze it is more mature looking, the burgundy was ok in person and the blue was overly blue ( a midnight navy blue would of been better ). I think a plain white would of been nice to offer though. I use my DS daily to unwind, play a lil Bookworm (a 1000% better on the XL btw) at night etc, and would be lost without it. I highly suggest buying it on amazon, tax alone will cost you 13$ or more plus gas to pick it up in some store. Mine arrived packaged well in bubblewrap all sparkly new in the box. I am off to bed to play some jeopardy now, hope you all enjoy your purchase too!

This is the first DS I've owned. My children have the DS Lites so I'm not new to the systems. I've been playing on a Gameboy SP for the past couple of years. My favorite game was Harvest moon and I'd play it about 20 minutes a night. When I bought the DSI XL, I also bought a Harvest moon game to go with it and I haven't wanted to put the system down. Forget the 20 minutes a night. I'll play for at least 2 hours a night! The screen has made that much of a difference! My eyes don't get tired like they used to. I didn't even notice at the time how much I was squinting. My children are in love with the DSI XL too now (they keep taking mine). My daughter, 11, loves the camera and voice features. My son, 15, says it's so much easier to play Line Rider 2 with the bigger screen. We have shared pictures and many laughs with this system and the way it manipulates the pictures and voices. Who knew the word jalapeno could be funny in a voice recording? I had no problem hooking this up to my wi-fi. It connected within a minute and I surf the web, though slowly as I expected it would be. I usually shut wireless off on the system though as I think it eats up the battery way too fast. I've downloaded a game from dsi ware and had no problems with that. The DSI XL is easy set up-I haven't even read the guide yet and I'm usually the kind of person to do that, but I just haven't needed to as it's pretty easy to understand. The one thing I don't like about my Bronze DSI XL is that the top section moves after I open it. I'll put it in the second position and if I move the system the top section moves forward and back. I'm not sure if this is suppose to do this or not. I've gone to game stores to check displays but no one displays the DSI XL. I don't understand why as this is a great system. I highly recommend this system for all ages. I'm not even sad that it's not backward compatible because there is so much to do on this system and over a thousand games that can be bought for it. I'll still keep my Gameboy SP for my Gameboy games though honestly I haven't touched that since I've got the XL. And let me mention one last time the screens are AWESOME!

First of all I have owned both the original Game Boy with the horrible green screen and the Game Boy Color. I decided to buy this Nintendo DSi XL because I recently had my 4th ankle surgery and wanted something to pass the time. As soon as I unboxed the beautiful burgundy Nintendo DSi XL I knew I was never going to put this down! The large screens are bright and clear and make the text and pictures really easily to read. Even though I bought two games for the DSi XL, I find my self playing the pre-installed Brain Age games! They are really interesting and my whole family enjoys playing them! The larger size of the XL is prefect for people of all sizes. I am 6'6 and have fairly large hands and my hands feel comfortable while play for an extended period of time. I have played my friends Nintendo DS Lite and it felt to small and I found myself having a hard time to look at the smaller screen. I would honestly recommend the DSi XL to people of all ages! Even though I am a 24 year old guy I can see myself playing games during my freetime at work! Pros: -Bright clear screens -Great battery life -Amazing larger size Cons: -None!
