This stuff is right up there with sliced bread. I bought a lip spoiler for my car that required 6 holes to be drilled in my trunk lid. Instead I used two full-length runs of this stuff and it feels like it was bolted in place by Superman . 4 seasons later it hasn't budged. 100° July heat or a February ice storm is no match for this tape. If I had to find a con with this item I would say the red backing is next to impossible to remove without cursing and once it touches something you better hope it's in the right place cuz it ain't moving.
Side molding on my 2011 Silverado was coming off. It isn't anymore! Getting the old stuff off was a bit of a PITA, but plastic scrapers, GooGone Automotive, some rubbing alcohol, and about 30 minutes did it. Putting it back on with this tape only took a few minutes after the site was clean. Mark the location with some blue painter's tape along the top of the molding before you remove it so you know where to put it back.
I used this mounting tape to install a roof spoiler on my 2014 Passat. It went on very easy, and in conjunction with the 3M adhesion promoter it is holding up very well. As with any mounting tape, you need to ensure alignment prior to exposing all the adhesive tape. The small tabs I had exposed in order to align the spoiler prior to pulling the backing were very difficult to re-align. That fact is not a negative, as it showed me just how well this tape would hold. Once I had it aligned and all the backing removed I allowed it to sit in the driveway for 24hrs. The spoiler is rock solid and has yet to move. In comparison to the factory mounted trunk lid spoiler, this stuff is far more sturdy. The factory spoiler was starting to loosen up after the 200 mile drive from my dealer to the house. I will post an update as time goes by, to show if it lasts.
I had some points of molding on my Sequoia that had lifted and it annoyed me to no end. In less than 15 minutes I had removed the old tape, cleaned the sites and installed the new tape and they haven't budged at all. Amazing tack. As a results of that experience I've branched out to use it in other areas where I need a little flexibility and high stick. Heck, I even used it in our elf on the shelf upgrade this year. I would not hesitate to recommend this product to anyone.
I used this to install a plastic front fender extender (aka fenda extenda) on a Triumph Trophy. This stuff is easy to work with -- some tapes have backings that are very difficult to remove / peel off, but this stuff is great. The sticking power so far seems to be top-notch, and the thickness is just right (as described in the product details). I cleaned both the new extender and my stock fender very well with soap and water, than rubbing alcohol, and after practicing alignment and ensuring very carefully that it was aligned, I peeled back the whatchamacalit stuff ("backing"?) and simply pressed the two parts firmly together. So far, it's sticking like you'd expect: very, very strong. Time will tell if it holds, but based on prior longer-term assessments on amazon (and elsewhere), so far I feel confident this product will last a long, long time.
This stuff is amazing. I obtained it planning to use it for a nice clean installation of my front license plate on a car with no front plate bracket. But I knew I would be switching to a different set of plates in the near future, so I needed to just hold a plate on for a few hours to get the car through inspection. I put a small square of tape (about 1cm x 1cm) on each of the top two corners of my plate and popped it on the front bumper (no wax removal, no special prep) hoping it would get me through inspection. Wow, did it hold. Even though it was meant to be a temporary easy to remove application, it is really on there. I am definitely confident in this method for the permanent plates. In fact, I am a little worried about getting this temporary application off when the new plates arrive!
Used it to replace some 3M strips that came with window visors. For an even better fit: 1) make sure both surfaces are free of dust 2) use alcohol wipes on both surfaces and let evaporate 3) place the two surfaces together 4) use a blow dryer to lightly heat up the 3M tape and compress even further (heat helps it stick better)
The protective panel/molding on the top of the rear bumper of one of our SUVs became loose on one side. I was afraid that it would be pulled off at the car wash. I marked the edges of the protective moulding's existing position on the bumper using a black whiteboard pen. I then removed the molding from the bumper (pulled it off carefully) and cleaned off the old tape and adhesive from the bumper and the molding with 3M 08987 General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner (http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=3M%2008987), careful not to wipe off the edge marks. I cut the tape to the proper sizes and attached it to the underside of the molding. I wasn't careful along one edge and had to remove that piece which destroyed the tape, it is VERY strong. Be sure the tape is cut to exactly the right size and in the exact place you want it because once it's attached, you can't reposition it, you have to remove it and start over. Once I had everything in place I carefully positioned the molding back on the bumper, pressed it into place and that was it. It took a little time, but I'm very happy with the results. After several months there's no lifting and no indication that the molding will ever come loose again. Recommended!
This tape is fantastic. I do a lot of customizing to cars and this has come in handy on many occasion. I use it to attach custom emblems and trim I make for the outside and inside of cars and trucks. Items stay put at highway speeds and do not have issues in the engine area with high temps either.
