Before buying these tensioners, I saw a review that claimed that the rubber deteriorated. But if you know anything about these types of tensioners, you know that you MUST have a can of silicone spray. This not only protects and preserves the rubber, but it also makes it much easier to install them. You want the rubber to slip through the clips easily, and the silicone helps tremendously. And at the end of the season, you spray a heavy coat of silicone before putting the tensioners away. I spray the tensioners for my car in the same way, but I also spray the cables. That lubricates the areas that might spin around the cables. I recommend these tensioners, a can of silicone, and a good pair of gloves.

While these are described as "Small Size", they were used on the rear tires on a John Deere 455 Compact Diesel Tractor. The actual tire size used on is 26x12x12, which is hardly a "small tire". These worked well on this sized tire. I ordered (2) sets or two "chain tensioners" and used two on each rear tire. Yes, I applied both sets to the exterior side of the wheel only. These fit this sized tire quite well and certainly achieved their goal in taking up the slack in the rubber traction strips I installed. The description talks about using these on "snow blowers" and small tires", but the company must have sizes of "really small, micro sized and tiny" to fit your average walk behind snow blower. The companies description of sizes and their application is poor. I went to the sellers direct website seeking specific details on the size of these and found no useful information. I think they need to provide a picture with measurements of the un-extended and then "stretched out" or extended sizes of their product so it is clearer what these really fit. The design of these is good, the plastic clips seem reasonably strong if used as designed and likely intended. They worked well for securing the Traction Strips on my tractor and they certainly look better than "bungee cords" which I have seen others use. For their price, I feel these are a good purchase and meet the need to snug up the "Rubber chains" I installed. I would order them again, but hopefully won't need to for quite some time if these continue to work as they have thus far. For anyone concerned about maintaining the testosterone level status of your tractor or snow blower, My wife did comment about my tractor having "pretty pink clippy things on the wheels", since the clips are a bright pink color as shown in the product photos. So if you are concerned about having "pink clippy things" on your vehicle on which you plan on using these, be forewarned the clips are a bright pink color, which makes them easy to see. Frankly, I could care less........

I had looked for years for spreaders for the chains for my lawn tractor and was told "Let out the air, install the chains and reinflate the tires." I did that and still threw both chains from my Cub Cadet. Purchased new chains and these spreaders and was set to plow. And a good thing I did; we had several snows this Ohio winter.

An awesome product. Very necessary for any snow riding on a mower with chains. I hope everyone understands these are needed with chains. The chains will not stay on without these since chains cannot stretch! I also HIGHLY recommend 2 of these PER wheel. One per wheel with not add much tension at all and only make the chains lopsided. Used these on my cub cadet SLT1550 rear wheels which are 22x9.5x12. Also, I recommend using 4 zip ties per side so the tensioner has 8 points of contact with your chain instead of 4. Seems to keep the chain tightest that way.

A Must have for snow chains. Keeps the chains centered, tight and working good. I used a couple of extra clips to keep them really tight. I deflated the tire, much the same as a football, and then installed the chains. Center them up, install the tension bands, inflate and go plow snow !

I installed the size smalls on my Cub Cadet XT2 both Fronts 15x6x6 and rear 20x8x8 tires . They are super easy to install and fit both tires. The rear tires obviously fits tighter then the fronts but still get the job done. Highly recommend!

Great product. Using on a Deere 2305c with lawn tires for winter chains. Easy to use and have held up a few seasons so far with no problems. Will be buying a second set as backups.

Have a 28 HP Craftsman garden tractor with a 48" snowblower. Bought chains and these tensioners last year. They work great on the tractor. Took them off in the summer and stored them in the basement with the chains. This is the second year I've used them. A little concerned about whether they will last more than two years given the "cracking" I am seeing but even if I only get two years out of them I'll be happy since they are working so well. BTW - Amazon also paired them up with the chains I bought for my Ariens 1128 pro snowblower (tire size 16 x 8.5 x 8) so I ordered them... and they are way too large. Don't provide enough tension and came off within an hour of use.... so I will put them away and use them on my tractor when the other pair give out.

Works as advertised; My ATV snow tire chains kept loosening, so I purchased these in size medium. They fit just right on my 12" tires, were easy to install in about 5 minutes (and no silicone spray was needed, as another reviewer suggested), and now the chains are on tighter. I've plowed my property twice now and so far, so good. Hopefully they'll last at least one winter season, which, for the price, makes them worthwhile.

Since it is plastic and Rubber I am not expecting more than 5 Years from the product. We have had for 1 season and Rubber is cracking. I'm not saying don't buy just pointing out that this product. It works as intended.
