We love Captain Calamari! I ordered this for my daughter when she was 2.5 months old. The first time she saw Captain Calamari she was mesmerized. Now that's she's almost 4 months old, she's started reaching for him over other toys. She particularly likes to clutch the rings. She also loves to hit the ball and clutches at it. She loves when I show her herself in the mirror. I have Captain Calamari "read" the Captain Calamari Treasure Hunt soft book to her and when we get to the end (spoiler) I use the toy's mirror to show her that she's the treasure!

I would see Lamaze toys prior to having children and didn't really see anything special about them. My eight month old has loved his Lamaze toys since the beginning, especially Captain Calamari. He loves to chew and hold onto the Captains tentacles. I don't know if this is recommended by Lamaze but I toss his Lamaze toys into the washer and let them air dry. They have washed nicely which makes parents' lives much easier. I tend to take these with us when we travel or go places because they are so easy to clean. We have a few different ones (Stretch, Sir Prance-a-lot), so we always have clean buddies. These toys are always much cheaper on Amazon!

The Lamaze toys have been such lifesavers for us -- our little one adores them and starts smiling the second she sees one and Captain Calamari is no different! He has a crinkly hat, a mirror on his underside, one hooked leg, a couple of plastic rings, and a ball with plastic things in it to make noise. All his legs are different fabrics, so our little one can enjoy the textures and colors. We hook it to her car seat and it keeps her entertained in the car. It even keeps her happy after doctor visits, when she's gotten vaccines! We liked it so much we ordered a second one to give to our friends who are expecting.

All 3 of my kids like this as an infant toy (as well as Freddy Firefly). The tentacles all crunch or have different feelings. There is a mirror on the bottom of the toy and a rattle the baby can grab or hit if it's dangling. There are things to chew on but I wouldn't use it primarily as a chew toy- we use it more as a toy to get them to move/ roll/ grab attention so they want to look the other way or learn how to use their arms when they get to the development stage where they realize that their hands are I get their own control.

My 3 mo absolutely loves "Captain", as we have named him. He lights up whenever he sees this toy. I love the bright colors and different textures that provide mental stimulation. It's a great grow-with-me toy, as it is still just a little too big for my baby to hold on to. He mostly just plays with the tentacles and rings right now.

This has been my go to gift for the kittle babies in my life. I purchased over a year ago for my best friends baby shower, which she loved. Most recently I purchased as a Christmas gift for my nephew and he is in love with it! He hasn't stopped playing with it. I also boight the soft book too. Great gift set. The octopus is well constructed and has lots of attachments to keep baby entertained. He is a bit "crunchy". So be ware if youre looking for a quiet toy. Overall I it is a great gift and I'll probably end up buying it again at some point.

I have several of the Lamaze Play and Grow toys. This is one of the better ones. My baby got this around 4.5 months and is now 6.5 months. The tentacles are nice for chewing on. He really likes the felt feather in the hat. The rings are probably his favorite part of this toy because they are easy to hold and he can chew on them. He's getting better at grabbing the rattle ball. The mirror does nothing for him, surprisingly. Over all, the toy is very cute and kinda reminds me of Captain Jack Sparrow which makes a lot of adults that see it like it as well. As far as comparing it to the other Lamaze Play in Grow Toys we have, I'd probably rank them in this order: 1. Jacques the Peacock (excellent toy and perfect length to hang off the side of my diaper bag, I highly recommend) 2. Freddie the Firefly (very good length to hang off the stroller visor) 3. Captain Calamari 4. Tina the Tiger 5. Logan the Lion

Of all of the Lamaze toys we have, Captain Calamari is her favorite. She is almost 4 months old and could play with him for hours, just chewing on his legs! ha - the yellow leg with the silk hook seams to be her favorite, as it's not too soft and not too firm. I highly recommend Lamaze toys, they are totally worth it! They are the only toys my daughter focuses all of her attention on for a lengthy period of time.

This was one of my son's favorite baby toys! He actually received two when he was born, one from a friend of mine and another from his aunt, uncle, and cousins. We kept one and would attach it to his stroller so he had something to look at while riding around. When he got bigger and could grab, squeeze, and bite, this definitely was one he always picked to play with. It has bright colors, crinkling sounds, fun legs and rings to chew on, and a mirror. I see a lot of complaints from people about it being a choking hazard - I don't deny this could happen, but in each case the person says they were nearby but not necessarily supervising the baby. During playtime with my son as a baby, I was always sitting on the blanket with him being involved so this never happened to me. If I needed to do dishes or leave the room for some reason, he went safely into his pack and play with toys like cloth books, plush balls, or big teethers he couldn't do much damage with. So take their caution but no that if you plan to play with your baby when he has this toy, you shouldn't experience a choking hazard. A friend of mine gave my son a toy from her 2 year old daughter when he was born, and now that she's had a son I wanted to do the same. Since I know how much my son loved this toy, we picked it out as a gift from him to her new baby boy and can't wait to give it to him!

My son is 6 months old and gets bored with toys after a bit, however, this one is a hit! He adores it and will play with it for hours. He loves the little rattle and all the different textures and the little rings to chew on. The hat makes a fun crinkling noise (not annoying though) that he gets a kick out of. It's so well made too! I was surprised this was such high quality. I would have paid twice as much for this guy but I'm glad I don't have to!
