I bought the 18" model on July 2, 2018 for our very small yard. Since then I've mowed using a number of different height settings over every conceivable stage of growth/overgrowth. The mower performed well, although the longer the grass, the more passes I had to make in order to capture the stray grasses and weeds that evaded the reel. Frankly, if the lawn is overgrown the best option is to take a weed eater to the lawn and then run the mower over it. In any event, this is the fault of a careless homeowner and not the mower itself. I've maintained the mower with a wipe of machine oil over the blades after every use (carefully...), and an occasional shot of lubricant in the wheel housings. So far, the only signs of wear are some accumulated grass stains on the business end and a random tear in the grippy foam on the handle. It fits nicely in a very small plastic Rubbermaid shed when not in use. The grass catcher is well built but ultimately laughable. It holds so little, and is so smooth on the bottom, that the grass trimmings are either falling out or you're stopping to empty it again. I find that just mulching the clippings is a speedier option, and the mower mulches efficiently enough that the lawn never looks littered with clippings (even after tackling a badly overgrown space). If you're expecting the one-pass performance of a power mower, you'll be disappointed. However, if you're prepared to make a couple of passes and -still- find a stray weed or two that managed to evade the reel, then I'd recommend this mower. All in all, it does an exceptionally good job of creating a beautifully manicured lawn (despite the occasional strays). I love the sound of the spinning reel, I love the ease with which the mower glides over the lawn, and I'm not exaggerating when I tell you that it makes mowing a pleasure for me.

Works like a charm! I have about 50sqft of lawn to cut, and don't see the point in using a gas mower. I wish I would have bought this years ago for 1 acre+ yard I used to have. Only think I would say is don't let your grass get too long. It will cut tall grass with no problems, but then you'll have to rake up the tall grass so it doesn't smother your yard. If you stay on top of it, no need to do that. Great mower!

I purchased two of these mowers to replace our riding lawnmower, one for myself to push and one for my son to push. With two of us on the job, we can tackle our large(ish) rural yard in about the same or slightly less time than the rider. Here are my pros/cons: PROS - No need for fuel - Yard looks great when finished. - No need to replace batteries (like I have to yearly do with my rider after the harsh northern Minnesota winters) - Plenty of mulch production (that we use to feed our rabbits and for landscaping) - Great workout. I generally try to pace myself at a jog to sneak in a good workout. I love multitasking! - Quiet - No exhaust, so you can breath in the smells of nature and freshly cut grass while you mow. - 4 year warranty. CONS - Bought two. One died after two months of use (thus reflected in the overall rating). Mower blades quit spinning during forward motion and clicks like it does when pulled in reverse. Both ran under the same conditions and about the same operating time. 2019.06.03 UPDATE: Opened up the faulty mower and discovered the gears on both sides were worn out. They are made out of plastic. Contacted support. Waited on the phone for a hour, now they are sending replacement gears. I should not have had to wait on the phone for an hour, and these gears, which are crucial to the operation of this mower should not be made out of plastic. 2019.06.10 UPDATE: Received replacement mower rather than just replacement gears!! Updated rating from 2 starts to 5 stars to reflect the level of customer service received. I do have some concerns about the plastic gears again wearing out, but have since found a cheap mechanical solution (involving the addition of one screw and bolt per gear) that will work to resolve the issue once these mowers are out of warranty. - Small sticks will bring you to a sudden halt. Probably what damaged the plastic gears mentioned above! - We had an amazing acorn crop this year. These mowers proved impossible to mow any grass anywhere there was a heavy acorn drop. The acorns prevented the wheels from turning, thus the blades would not spin. - Some random weeds sneak past the mower. Most grasses have not been a problem. - Does not cut reliably on steep terrain, like the ditch along our driveway. - If you let your lawn get too long (6-7 inches), you will be mowing it twice to get it evenly cut. - Foam on the handle is wearing out after a year of use. Overall, I have been pleased with this mower. It meets my desire to make mowing a multi function endeavor: Mowing the lawn + exercise + collection of fresh mulch for our rabbits and landscaping.

I was hesitant to get this mower as I've never used a reel mower previously, however it works great. I had a gas mower before this that only worker intermittently and after many frustrating weeks of trying to get it to run I gave up and purchased this. My grass had gotten really tall by the time I ordered this mower so I will warn you, these aren't amazing with tall grass, but they do work. I had to go over the tall grass many times but taking it a little at a time over the course of a week I got it all back under control. For trimmed grass, this works great. It only takes one pass and is really easy to push. The 20-Inch width means it doesn't take too long to get the mowing done. I personally don't use the bag, so I can't really comment on that part of the mower. Overall, it's a great mower, I'm glad I purchased it, and I'm looking forward to not having to buy gas or change the oil on a mower anymore.

I got this for because my former roommate moved away, and took his lawn mover with him. I have a small yard in the back, a little on the sides and front, the rest of the front is mostly driveway. It takes around 35 minutes to cut the entire yard, 3,500s step according to my smart phone app. So I wanted something simple, I like quiet so I hate it when the neighbors are out running the noisy mowers and blowers. This meets my needs, no trips to get gas and I'm not opposed to doing some walking to get the job done. - My mower is a little different from the pictures, just in the way the handles assemble and the grass bag attaches. First I only needed a small knife to cut the tape on the box, after that no tools needed. It took about 20 minutes from time I opened the box. The book is printed on brown 100% recycled paper. The handle parts are in type 2 and 4 plastic bags, recycleable in some areas, but not excessive amounts. I like recyclable materials which includes the cardboard box. - Following the directions is fairly easy, I found it good to read each section, look at the parts, then read again as I assembled the pieces and also look at the picture on the box which is in full color, that helped clarify the orientation of the pieces. Mine came out looking like the one on the box so I think I got it correct. - Differences: The one I got came with carriage bolts with knobs, see my photos. the bolts slide easily through the handles and the knob has the nut part inside it, all you do is spin it on and then tighten them up by hand when done, no tools required which made this very easy to assemble. The grass catcher bag seems to have a different fastening part than other reviewers mentioned. They show a sort of curved wire shape. Mine was a plastic like c shaped part that clips onto the bottom roller. - My photos are indoors because it's raining today so I assembled it in the hallway. Enjoy Edit Had a chance to actually cut some grass. Does great at cutting grass, if not too tall. There were some weeds in the yard taller than grass that it did not immediately cut. I had to go over them several times or several directions to shorten them and finally cut them low as the grass. I suppose the key is to cut grass frequently so nothing gets too tall. Thin grass cut easily. I do have some patches of a different type of thicker (maybe denser) grass and that was difficult to push through, had to push really hard, but it was doable. I did not have a problem with the grass bag un-attaching. See above how i describe mine is different from previous reviews. This one stayed attached nicely. Also to empty it it un-attaches rather easily for dumping and reattaches easily and quickly. I didn't see any problem here. Small amounts of loose leaves also cut up fine with the grass. Sticks are a problem. There is a lot of debris in my yard from the winter and also a neighbor had a large old tree taken out during the winter, and of course all the little sticks fell in my yard. I'm talking about sticks that are thinner than your fingers. These got caught between the blade and the base of the cutting deck, where it normally cuts the grass, and jammed it up every time which makes you have to manually spin the blades backwards, i used my show to gently push on them, to clear the stick, then pick up the stick or it will just jam it up again. I have to do some raking, but once all those are gone i'm sure it will be fine. So I guess your yard needs to be clear of sticks or any other small hard objects before cutting the grass. Also watch out for uneven ground. I had mine set on the lowest cutting level. When I cut near the house where the drip ditch is from the rain off the roof, One wheel into the ditch and i ended up with the blades digging into the ground and not being able to push forward. Edit 2. Found in my smart phone an app to measure steps. At a good pace, it took me around 3,500 steps to cut the entire yard in about 35 minutes. Been using the mower a couple of months now, once you get the yard in shape it gets easier. Don't let the grass get too tall. Keep it clean of debris. I decided to go out every Saturday and cut the grass and i like to go out early, 7 to 8 am, when it has not gotten hot yet, so quiet is desirable, which this mower is. It makes for a good exercise work-out so I don't think of cutting the grass as a chore, but as exercise. I haven't been using the grass catcher. I did the first 3 or 4 cuts at the beginning of the season, to get all the grass and other debris, like leaves, all cleaned up. After that I found without is just fine if I cut grass each week-end. The grass does not get to tall so the cuttings are a lot less and the yard does not look bad when cut. It does not shoot grass all over my legs. Plus i kind of like to look down and see if grass is being cut, i can see the small bits fly through the mover and out the back. I also had a sort of bad accident, fell on the stairs when one broke under me. Ended up with only a Back Rib Contusion. So I had not cut grass now for 2.5 weeks and felt good enough today to try. As long as i stood straight up and did not twist my torso, I had no pains. I was able to cut my now taller grass, although i went at a slower pace and had to go over some of it two or three times, but that was because i let it get to tall. it took me 4,500 steps (1.5 my normal) and 90 minutes, 3 times longer, but that was because I did not want to over-work my back. But I was able to do a lot of the pushing one handed ! If i did use two hands the second was mostly for steering or the thicker spots, since that was my injured side. I ended up doing the entire yard to my amazement and did not miss too many spots. i'll get those next week. I think actually the exercise was good for my muscles and back. Point is it is easy to use.

I wasn’t expecting much out of a manual push mower, but I just finished using it for the first time and I’m so impressed! Few things to be noted: -Yes, it is going to take a little more effort than a standard mower. You’re buying a manual mower. That’s what you signed up for. -Yes, it will take more physical strength if you’re trying to mow down 10” high grass. Cause it’s a manual mower. -Yes, it does occasionally get caught on sticks, but it takes 2 seconds to remove the obstruction. If you don’t have 2 seconds available, why are you buying a manual mower? -Yes, it takes more time than a gas or electric mower. Again, cause it’s a manual mower. -Yes, the grass catcher bag is pretty small and fills up very quickly. Cause it’s a manual mower! It’s not designed to mow an acre. I will forgo the use of the bag altogether on my next use and simply rake up the clippings afterwards. Not a big deal for me. -I’m a 32 year old female who stands at 5’6” and weighs 125, I had no trouble assembling or using this mower. Very pleased with its performance thus far. And I actually found it enjoyable. If you’re looking for an eco-friendly mower and enjoy the idea of getting some light exercise while doing yard work, I would highly recommend this. If you are someone who complains about putting time and effort into things, you should probably just call a landscaper.

I didn't even realize they still made these! Our gas mower bit the dust last fall and when I was shopping this spring, I came across these. I hate being dependant on gas, since we live so far from town. So, I purchased this. I can't say I'm sorry. This thing is awesome. I got the 20" deck and bought the 4 year warranty as well. We tested it as soon as it arrived; in the rain on 8"+ long grass. Barely any jamming, as opposed to a choked gas mower. Had to go over a few spots, but that's to be expected for grass heavy and wet enough to make mulch. My 12 year old son is so excited about this mower, that he voluntarily mows. It takes a bit of a push to get it started, but when it's moving, even my 5 year old daughter can use it. Overall, I am thrilled with this mower. The only cons I have found are that the bagger is tiny af so it doesn't hold much and the blade jams on sticks any thicker than a chopstick. Neither issue would deter me from purchasing again.

My husband and I just bought a house with an average lawn in Maine - not sure what type of grass, but some of clover, dandelions, and mint mixed in. It's a 1/4 acre lot with a house that's less than 2000 sq. ft., so, while not huge, definitely not considered a tiny yard. We didn't want to deal with gas, oil, the smell, noise, charging, or storage of a gas or electric so we bought this one after reading a lot of mixed reviews for a lot of different reel mowers. This ended up being one of the cheapest out there, so I was nervous it wouldn't be great. I am so glad we bought this! My husband and I have used this one time each so far and we both were pleasantly surprised with how well it worked. Here is our experience with the mower: First, it was easy to assemble. I put it together in less than 1/2 an hour. Each time we used it, the lawn was LONG from being on vacation for 1-2 weeks prior to mowing. The mower did a great job, though SOME of the grass that was long enough to be tipped over snuck under the blades. We just went back over these places in different directions to try to get it best we can. I definitely think this can be avoided by mowing before it gets this long. Even though we have several large trees in the yard, and we had just had a thunderstorm the day before I mowed, I really had no problem with sticks getting stuck (and I did not rake or pick up sticks ahead of time). Only one stick got stuck and one piece of mulch got stuck. It zoomed over 1+ foot long sticks bigger round than my fingers, no problem. It took my husband and I each just over an hour to mow the whole yard. Again, this is after going over several patches more than once and I think if we mowed more often than every 2 weeks it would take less time and we would not need to redo patches. Some grass is just going to cut better in certain directions. For example, just after one time, I learned the patch of grass along our driveway needs to be cut north-south, not east-west. You will have to do some trimming. It leaves a few inches of uncut grass next to buildings and other objects. It's not silent. It makes a scratching/slicing sound but it is not unpleasant and certainly nothing like power mowers. You could easily listen to music/radio with earbuds using this. I did not even bother to use the grass catcher but my husband did. He said it filled so fast he just took it off rather than dump it every pass down the lawn. Again, probably more of an issue with longer grass. It's a good workout without being so much that you never want to do it again! It was actually easier to push than I was expecting. This is one of the reasons we got a reel mower (for the free workout), but if you don't like to sweat or workout, get yourself a rider! So, that's our experience. I definitely recommend this mower after two uses. If anything changes, I will update my review but at this point, unless our lawn gets larger, I would never go back to a power mower!

I have purchased this unit June 1 2015, and have used it religiously every 2 weeks to cut my patch of lawn in my backyard. Honestly compared it to a few push reel lawn mowers out in the market and this came out on top. But I came across an issue recently after owning it for 2 years where one of the reel blades failed. I contacted the customer support and I have to say I got a hold of a real person in minutes they speak English and are in the US. Most importantly they stayed on the phone with me got the pics I sent them via E-mail and was able to take care of my problem on the spot. The Representative I spoke with her name was Jenna Greenworks Please give her a raise for outstanding customer service!!! You have earned a customer for life!!!

My gas mower broke, so I decided to give this one a try. The Greenworks mower was easier to use than I expected. Surprisingly, mowing the lawn took less time than with the gas mower, perhaps because of going to 20 inch width. The grass catcher works okay, but doesn't collect as much as the the gas mower did. On the other hand, the gasmower ripped the grass to shreds, whereas the pushmower was all clean slices. Cutting grass at some edges or uneven terrain was tricky. The gas mower wasn't stopped by anything, but the Greenworks mower can be stopped by a twig or the ground. So perhaps 1% less of my lawn can be mowed. But those areas I should make nicer anyways. I'll need to revisit this review after trying to mow a wet lawn.
