This stuff worked for my 3.5 year old in one application! So glad I got the smaller bottle. I was on the fence and so glad I went for it despite the pediatric dentist recommending to wait until she was 4. She was having some changes in her teeth from thumb sucking but she said it wasn't enough to make her worry. I was on the fence because my daughter started thumb sucking around one after I accidentally weaned her from her pacifier (I had found out there are actually age ranges on pacifiers but she didn't like the firmer texture - and I already tossed her other ones). I wasn't worried at the time because she only sucked her thumb when sleeping - so naps and night. However, a little over a year ago I became a stay at home mom and I noticed her thumb sucking increasing while she was awake. Constant reminders were not helping though I was glad it wasn't making her too upset either. I asked her if she wanted something spicy on her thumb to help her stop (because she wouldn't know what bitter was) and she became curious and asked for it a few days later. I ordered it online because I couldn't find it locally and chose this brand because of the reviews. She got excited when it came in the mail and I made her wait until morning to try it because I knew nighttime would be the hardest. Before I put it on I told her it doesn't come off, even with washing hands, so she would be prepared. I put one stripe down the center of each thumb trying to limit the accidental tasting while eating meals that I had read in other posts and it worked pretty well. She immediately gave a little lick and said "yuck". She had a great morning and did ask me to take it off a few times in the afternoon but I reminded her it doesn't come off and that was that. A few tears the first night but a left a few crackers at her bedside to take the taste away in case she accidentally sucked her thumb and that eased her fears and I just stroked her hair for awhile to relax her in place of her thumb. No mention of her thumb the next day and at night she only asked for a couple crackers. Third night, nothing! I know this is wordy but I hope my story helps someone else. Who knows, maybe in another few weeks she may need another dose but this self reminder has been so much better for both sides and has given us more progress in 3 days than in 1 year. So far she hasn't sucked her thumb in 2 weeks.
This stuff is awesome! My daughter has been a thumb sucker since day 1. She is 5 years old and still sucking her thumb! I’ve tried everything...even bribery lol! Nothing worked. I reluctantly bought Mavala Stop to try as a last resort. (This girl would still suck her thimb even after getting her nails painted...bleh! So, I wasn’t expecting it to work). As soon as I received the package, I opened it and applied it. It’s super easy to apply...just like nail polish. She wanted to see how it tasted, so she touched her tongue to her nail and was thoroughly disgusted. She has only had her thumb in her mouth once since receiving our Mavala Stop and that was because it had mostly worn off. We decided to apply it every 3 days. She has now completely stopped...even at night!! Seriously y’all! This stuff is the bomb diggity! I will be recommending it to everyone and anyone.
This stuff seriously works. As a lifelong nailbiter, I decided on my thirtieth birthday that I needed to finally put my bad habit to rest. After reading some blogs and Reddit posts, I ordered this product. I applied it to my nails before bed (as recommended) and also wore a rubber band on my wrist so that I could train myself to no longer bite my nails. The mavala polish tastes terrible, and it will even leave its trace on your lips if you even touch your mouth. After just about three weeks now, I am happy to report that I don't even think about biting my nails. My fingernails have grown to a nice length and now instead of hiding my short nails out of embarrassment and shame, I spend time making them look nice with pretty nail polish. I'll use the Mavala again if I am ever tempted to bite again. This product is the best. I am forever grateful.
My daughter was thumb sucking in the womb and found her thumb shortly after birth. I could not get her to stop for over three years.. her skin was wrinkly and peeling, the nail was bent and growing curved, and the dentist said it was changing her jaw placement. SEVERE thumb sucker. 1 week with this and she’s done completely. She didn’t cry, she didn’t have a fit. She said “that’s disgusting!” And stopped. I did not expect it to be that easy, but it was. I feel like an infomercial but serious, do it!!
My 7 year old is (was?) an anxious nail bitter. We used this stuff for 2 week, reapplying every other day and it worked! No nail biting the entire 2 weeks. Of course it tastes bad and she complained every now and then about tasting it when eating but it wasn’t enough to deter her from actually eating with her fingers. Overall happy with the results, here’s to hoping the no biting can last without this polish.
I first bought this product in 2017 when my child was 2, and sucking the thumb a lot. It didn't work, he sucked exactly the same. Product literature says don't use before 3 years old, and they know what they're talking about. Fast forward to age 4+ and the sucking was as bad as ever; and have brought a lisp, huge open bite, and desperation. I bought this product a second time. Package came at 2pm, and I applied to the favourite thumb immediately. At around 3pm the thumb went into the mouth and he was disgusted. No crying, but sour face and needed to rinse. He decided right there to stop sucking his thumb. During sleep that night the thumb went in, and it woke him up and he had to rinse. Two days later he has not even put his thumb mistakenly. We continue to apply each night during sleep. Just in case. I should add that I have spent the last 6 months convincing him that he needed to stop. And we were in agreement. The problem is at his usual sucking times the habit takes over and the desire is strong. It's an addiction. But he wanted to stop and this product gave him the help he needed. Victory.
First picture (Day 1) Second Picture (Day 7) Third Picture (Day 14) I applied the polish every other day. The taste really is horrible. It makes me keep my hands away from my mouth.
What can I say? I've been a nail biter since I was a kid. I'm not one that chews on my cuticles or chews my nails down to the nub like I've seen on some other reviews here, but I have always chewed on them and my family is constantly telling me to stop. I have tried for years to stop, but to no avail. I swiped this on my nails on day 1 and forgot that I did and the INSTANT I touched my mouth (I didn't even get to bite the nail) the bitterness of the polish covered my tongue and it was on my lips, too. I was spitting and yelling at myself because the taste was so bad. I have applied this every other day and I've had it for more than 2 weeks and barely any is gone. The bottle will last a long time! I wish I had before pictures of my nails. They've never been as long as they are now and I'm just over the moon excited about it. I'm no longer embarrassed to show my nails, which is a huge deal for me. The urge to bite my nails is basically completely gone. (except when I'm nervous.) Do yourself a favor and get this for you or whoever bites their nails. It has been a game-changer for me! ' I'll list some pros and cons below: Pros: HORRIBLE taste Makes your nails nice and shiny! A little goes a long way. Cons: (these aren't huge deals to me, but may be to someone else.) The taste will last in/on your mouth for a good while - be careful! (this could be a pro?) I have to reapply every other day because it seems to come off easily.
I have a kiddo that just turned four a few days after starting to use this product. She has always sucked her two middle fingers on her left hand and I was worried about her starting preschool sucking her fingers but I have to admit that I was super skeptical. Her habit was STRONG and engrained. Half the time she didn’t even realize she had her fingers in her mouth. Two weeks in and she hasn’t sucked her fingers once since we applied this product. I reapplied it every 2-3 days and at this point, I’m going to test out letting it ride. She doesn’t even talk about sucking her fingers anymore. The first week was rough with her not knowing how to cope with big emotions without her fingers but every day gets easier for her! Sooo glad I went for it!
Worth every penny! That taste is so bitter and stays in your mouth for several minutes. Even sleeping (we introduced it by painting it on his nails as he slept) he took his thumb out of his mouth. We explained that his nails taste bad now that he's grown old enough not to suck his a thumbs. This worked very well until he sucked my thumb to see if it happened to everyone. I showed him the Polish and told him what it was and that it would help him not to make his teeth stick out like a horse. I reapplied every 3 days while he slept and he got rewards for not sucking his thumbs every 4 days. After 12 days he didn't even subconsciously suck on them. Every time he got a reward we painted his thumbs and after 20 ish days we stopped and he's not regressed! Thank you!
