No problems at all, great value and fun
Maybe this kit has changed a lot over the last few years, but what we received in late 2016 was exactly as described on Estes site. It's a great father/son starter kit, not for a young kid to assemble without guidance. The instructions are fine if you take your time and read. We got both together, they look good, and they've survived multiple launches and repairs after learning a bit about properly folding the chutes! A B4-4 engine is a good start for both rockets.

Great kit with good models. Consider this launch kit before others. You won’t be sorry.
This is definitely a good starter rocket kit. Both rockets are easy to assemble. I would recommend going by The instructions since each step compliments the previous and next step. I chose to use Gorrila wood glue on the small one and super glue on larger one. The large one has a lot of plastic pieces, that you could literally assemble this rocket in an hour and go fly. We haven’t flown ours yet but I’m anxious to see how they do. I also opted to go big and purchased the “C” size motors. My grand babies are 2.5 and 3.5 and I hope this will be something that excites them both.

Great starter kit, and the one to get.
Love this kit. It came with the Porta Pad II launch pad, Electron Beam launch controller, and 2 decent rocket kits. This bundle is a good value compared to getting any one of these separately. The Crossfire rocket is surprisingly nice to build. The Amazon rocket is ok and very easy to build with model cement as the fins and motor housing are plastic. Besides glue, paint and a hobby knife to finish the rockets, you will need batteries, rocket motors, and wadding to begin flying the rockets. I am re-living my childhood through my daughter. Fun stuff.

Estes Rockets have been great for over 30 years
This is a simple pair of rockets and launcher set which is easy to assemble and fly with young grandchildren - little to assemble and grandpa and/or dad set engines and initiators for launch - kids count down, hit the launch button, and retrieve the rocket as it returns to earth under a parachute. I launched Estes rocket with my children 30+ years ago and now with their children and my other grandchildren. It brings the inner child out of us all to see the kids enjoy the launch and recovery of these small rockets that fly 300+ feet into the air. I highly recommend Estes rockets for kids of all ages - with proper adult help/supervision. **Remember to buy the engines & initiators separately (they come together in packages of 3) as a new one is required for each launch (buy a couple of extra engines as this year for the first time I experience a two "dud" engines in a group of nine engines. **

Excellent Starter Kit for New Rocketeers
These are the first rockets I have purchased as an adult (I had one as a kid.....over 25 years ago), and I love them. This kit was nice for 2 reasons - it came with its own launcher, and there are 2 different levels of rockets to build. The taller "Amazon" rocket was much easier to build and took me around an hour or so to build (with the help of my 5 year old). The smaller one took a bit longer (plus the time needed to wait for the paint to dry). Being someone who is completely inept at building things, I was able to build these rockets with very little difficulty. The launcher was very easy to set up and use, and after giving my boys a little instruction, they were able to launch them with me standing off in the distance. Of course they had a blast watching these 2 launch but even more fun chasing them down through a corn field once the parachutes deployed. As advertised, the "Crossfire" goes quite higher than the "Amazon". After 9 launches of these 2 rockets and 3 other ones that I purchased at the same time, the boys were ready to go kite flying, but they are still well worth the money. Plus it's a great way for dads to spend time with their kids while building them and finally launching them into orbit! UPDATE: After reading several of the negative reviews (which have nothing to do with the product itself), I thought I'd better add that YOU WILL NEED TO BUY ENGINES AND IGNITERS for these rockets. Also, if you want them to look like the ones photographed, you will need paint as well. Even though the product description seems self explanatory online, I understand that some smartphones aren't picking up this product description. All that said, still well worth the money even with the extras (which you can also pick up on Amazon for a fraction of the store cost).

Spectacular
Worth every penny and every moment putting it all together for the resultant glee on the faces of my grandkids obtained from the initial flight. The entire setup of this "Tandem-X Rocket", from Estes, was a good learning experience and provided an appreciation of the hobby. However, the provided directions, and pictorials, could use some improvement.

Great for beginners!
My 10 year old son and I built the "Amazon" rocket yesterday. Neither of us had ever built a model rocket before, and this particular one was surprisingly simple and straight forward. The rocket is made from a combination of carboard tubes, plastic fins, tip, and parachute. There is no painting involved in building this rocket. The instructions were clear, and we had the rocket and the launch pad assembled in about an hour and a half. The other rocket in the set, the "Crossfire", has pieces made out of wood instead of plastic, which means that the rocket does need to be painted. I suppose it would still fly if it wasn't painted, but it just wouldn't look as cool. The Crossfire is a little more advanced rocket than the Amazon, and we will work on that one after we get some successful launches with the Amazon first. Being new to model rockets myself, and not knowing exactly what materials are needed, I learned from reading on the internet that you also need model cement, recovery wadding, engines, and ignitors(usually included in package with engines). These items are not included in this set and must be purchased separately. I found all of these items at my local Hobby Lobby store, although I'm sure they can be purchased on Amazon too. We haven't had a chance to launch the rocket yet, so I will report back later with our launch experiences. Overall, this is an excellent starter set for adults or kids who think it may be fun to build and launch a model rocket into the air. At just $25 on Amazon, this set is a great value too, because if you bought these two rockets and launch pad separately you would be in over $60. Very pleased with this purchase.

Excellent starter kit for the novice
This rocket set is great! My 8 ye old son and I built the larger Amazon Rocket (didn't have time to get he Crossfire ready for today), which calls for a B size engine, but after reading several of the reviews, I opted for the larger C6-5 engine. It did not disappoint. Went out with my son today for his first rocket launch experience. He was in awe at how well his rocket did.

Fun kit with 2 awesome rockets
Purchased this as a project kit with my kid. Was a lot of fun to put together. Instructions were easy to follow and very fun to put together. Will need to purchase some additional supplies if you don't have them (batteries, glue, sandpaper, hobby knife, etc.). Will also need to purchase engine kits and wadding. We used this opportunity to do a science experiment and make our own wadding. Great kit and glad we purchased this

Great way to introduce the hobby to your little ones
The whole launch setup (launch pad, control module, etc) hasn't changed much since I was a kid! The ready-to-fly rockets are a nice alternative, especially if this is your first foray into model rockets. I recommend this kit as a starter pack to get your kids interested in the hobby, and the low price means you have a bit more for rocket engines and wadding (those suckers are expensive!!). Have fun!
