I purchased this model for ethical wifi hacking, for one of my security courses. Works with my software perfectly, and has amazing range. I will probably get another, just to use for standard wifi access. If purchasing for wireless hacking and you are not testing against your own equipment, always gain permission before attempting to penetrate a foreign network.

I'd like to start off by reiterating the fact that, yes, THIS IS VERSION TWO 2. People have already been kind enough to confirm this but reinforcing fact can't possibly harm anyone. Anyway, the device itself is exactly as I expected (i.e. it does what it claims). Though, I will not be using the included cable or accessories because they are not 'to code', so to speak. Specifically, the suction cup mount point for the holder leave a lot to be desired. Specifically, suction. The suction cup suck [figuratively speaking]. I'm aware that surface matter, which is why I tried it on different laptop backings. It works very well on the smooth/soft-touch (faux?) carbon fiber surface that surround the keyboard on Dell's newer XPS models but I doubt you'll find a laptop using that type of material in a location where you would also want this holding 'cup' to be situated. Instead of wasting your time making it work reliably, find a proper solution. The device itself is a solid 5/5.

There is some incorrect information that all my young pen testers need to know about this Alfa card. this card is indeed the Alfa AWUS051NH v.2!!!!!!!!! this product depict's the original Alfa AWUS051NH but this is indeed the "v2" its the second version of this card that has a different chipset. This v2 Alfa card has the "Ralink 3572"... this chipset works with kali in the 5ghz and 2.4ghz wireless ranges. you will have to do a little tinkering to get it to work flawlessly in the 5ghz range so do not jump right back on amazon and start posting bs about this card not working with kali linux because it 100% works in both 2.4 and 5 ghz ranges in monitor mode, packet injection etc. I added a pic so you can see that this is indeed the v2. Hope i helped some people!!

Running Kali VM in VirtualBox on a 2015 MacBook Pro and everything worked out-of-the-box: 2.4 GHz, 5 GHz, and packet injection. Using airodump-ng and aireplay-ng to test. Just make sure to give the VM access to the USB device through VirtualBox. Did not appear to work out-of-the-box on MacOS Sierra, though. There may be a way to get it to work on Mac OS, but after I got it working in the Kali VM I didn't bother with it.

This might be one of the best, if no the best, consumer-grade wireless adapter that you can get on Amazon. Signal reception is amazing. Especially with the foot-long antenna that comes with it. There is also the option to use a small 4-inch antenna if you want, but with the long antenna, I can pickup the wireless signal 3-houses away from mine. That is very powerful. However, if you want to increase network performance, a better wireless adapter should be bought after upgrading the wireless access point or wireless router. Doing so would usually yield better results for all users. Are there any cons for the device? There really aren't any. I could only think of 2. 1. It's expensive. (go figure) 2. It doesn't support the newer 802.11ac standard. But, the device was made 3-4 years ago. So it would be unfair to count that against it. Also, if you want to try penetration testing for wireless networks, this device works flawlessly. Supports packet injection, monitor mode, and great native support for Kali Linux. Or, you can just buy it for the amazing performance.

Do you have a spot in your house where the wifi just doesn't reach? Do you want to use your laptop in the yard or while at a neighbor's house? This little device from Alfa might be just what you need to accomplish those things! There is nothing magical going on here, just a nicely powered Wifi radio with decent antennas. It does a very nice job with the laptops I have tried it out on. To give you a feeling for what it can see that your laptop Wifi radio can't, I took my laptop to the top level of my house and did a Wifi search. I came up with the two Wifi SSIDs from my house and one from outside my house that I can only assume was our closest neighbor's Wifi signal. Once I fired this baby up and did a search I came up with over 20 SSIDs that were now within range. Overall, this unit has worked as expected and has been true plug-and-play for Windows, Linux and Mac operating systems. Highly recommended!

This WiFi adapter, along with the included 5dbi antenna and the 9dbi antenna is great. I can "see" wireless networks that are far away and the throughput for my WiFi network is much improved. The seller did not initially include the 9dbi antenna (as described by other customer feedback), but they contacted me post-sale and followed-up with sending the 9dbi antenna within a week. And it has tremendous "reach". Recognized under Windows 10 and Kali Linux, this is a formidable security analysis tool.

Pretty awesome piece of equipment! It worked with Kali out of the box, and it works with the Raspberry Pi, on the latest Raspbian, even without a powered hub, as long as you have a decent power supply (1 Amp, at least, but 2 amps is the best, like an iPad charger) The BlackBerry charger doesn't give enough juice. You can plug it in, and unplug it without shutting down the RasPi. (maybe not a big deal, but my previous wifi adapter killed the pi when plugging in or unplugging) I didn't manage to make it work on my Mac OSX Yosemite, but I didn't really try. Has an awesome range, even with the 5dBi antenna, but with the 7dBi panel antenna it's just a beast. Build quality is what it is; as long as you don't step on it, it's good enough. Comes with a little plastic holder, that you can attach a clip to (clip it to your laptop screen) or you can attach a suction cup, to stick it on your window. The latter is very useful! And, the following is just an opinion, not based on facts: It seems like that this taiwanese company that makes this, makes it with pride, and they are trying their best to make this thing awesome. It doesn't feel like it was just thrown together, the packaging is nice, etc. good stuff.

Used it for on-site wireless PE testing with Kali. 100% what I needed.

First, I read reviews for this and similar items before buying, and going with an unknown company was a bit scary for me. From what I have read, a "super" antenna doesn't always help much or work as advertised. I knew that I needed something that would pick up the gain a bit, since my daughter's iMac is at the very edge of the wireless router's range. I have a big house with plaster walls - plaster which is set with wire mesh. So the walls destroy wireless signals. The iMac did not immediately recognize the USB connection and indicated that there wasn't enough power for the device thru the USB. This was corrected, once the software was installed. Additionally, the older iMac has a superdrive dvd (slot-loading) and the adapter has NO paper documentation - just a mini cd. The only things included in the box were the stock antenna, the extra "super" antenna, the USB cable, the wireless adapter and a mini CD. Mini cds don't work with slot-loading drives... So, I had to copy the Mac drivers/software from the mini cd using a PC and install them on the iMac from a flash drive. Not a big deal, but if you have a Mac of any kind, chances are you'll have a slot-loading drive, so you're in trouble if that's your only computer/laptop. Make sure to get a flash drive or portable HDD and borrow a friend's laptop, in order to transfer the installer. Once the .dmg was run, this adapter worked BEAUTIFULLY. It picks up our wireless better than my Xbox 360, which is directly over the router, and picks up almost every other wirless in the neighborhood. Definitely works as advertised, but definitely NOT easy to set up if you have a Mac. Including a full-sized CD with the software would address this shortcoming. I wish I could get one of these for each of my Xboxes.
