When I adopted an Eclectus parrot who had been through a horrible past, she didn't take to the toys I offered her. Then I showed her the super shredder ball...now I have to make sure I have a few of these at In Your Flock parrot magazine headquarters to keep her continually supplied with them. She LOVES these things. They're available in a larger size, which would be advisable for a "larger" bird such as an Ekkie, but she still has some fear issues. This 3-inch diameter size has just the right size bits and toys inside it and isn't too imposing when hanging in her daytime cage. I recommend one of these "smaller" shredder balls for timid parrots to introduce them to the awesomeness of shredding the crap out of toys to get at more shreddable stuff...

I have a DYH Amazon who is rough on toys. This is one of her favorites. It takes her about 4-5 days to remove all the tissue paper but she doesn’t tear apart the netting holding the tissue, so I can restuff it several times. She works at this toy during every moment in her cage with lights available. I use the medium sized for her, as the large doesn’t seem to provide any “more” value. The smaller size she tears through in less than a day. I would definitely give this toy a shot!

My Goffin Cockatoo just loves this toy and attacked it immediately!!! He is an avid paper shredder & loves to forage for his treats. This item works perfectly on both fronts. I hide his treats inside and enjoy watching him find them. He pulls & shreds the colored paper which is non-toxic, the colors are made from food dye, like an excited kid w/a new toy. The floor of his cage now looks like its covered in confetti. He can be messy at times, so make sure you don't mind cleaning up shredded paper before you purchase. When he finds a hidden treat, he raises his crest, squawks loudly, and does his little happy dance before eating. I highly recommend this toy to anyone who owns a bird that loves to shred or forage. The medium size looks like a colorful softball and is perfect for my cockatoo. It would be great for African Greys, Amazons or other birds of similar size. If you own a smaller species such as quakers, conures, cockatiels, or parakeets, I would suggest a smaller one, since this size might be too large or scary for them. A larger bird such as Macaws, Moluccan, Sulfer Crested, or Umbrella Cockatoos would definitely need a bigger ball of fun. If you're lucky enough to salvage the ball's rope netting before your bird gets around to chewing that into pieces, you can re-stuff it w/more non-toxic paper shreds which I have been able to find at my local craft store. As I sit typing this review, Willieboy is hanging on to one side of the ball & digging out a treat. He is definitely happy & thats all that matters!!!

My younger male tiel LOVES these. My older female can’t be bothered.

Our African Grey LOVED this thing. Or hated it - it's hard to tell. (Kidding - he was clearly entertained) Point is, he spent all his time and energy enthusiastically destroying it as soon as it was hung in his cage. I ordered the medium size, and he completely dismantled it in less than a week. We kept sticking the little blocks back into the net to try and extend its life just a bit longer. The bottom of his cage looks like a rogue Mardi Gras parade passed through town. Once satisfactorily demolished, he then went to the bottom of the cage and played with all the blocks. It was very funny to watch him and he was obviously having a blast. I just wish it lasted longer, as a weekly restock is not practical. But I attribute the ball's short life to our bird's destructive skills and not to a lack of durability with this product.

They treat this like their day job. They love to cling to it and pull and pull until they get to the treasures inside. I'm on my second one now and will buy them another when they finish this one. Takes them several months to get through it. I think it gives them healthy exercise and purpose rather then just sitting and staring out their cage.

Finding a toy online for a macaw is not as easy as you think! There are a lot of products false advertising their toys as fit for a macaw, when it clearly is only good enough for a cockatiel! I am sure any macaw parent can understand the look of disappointment your bird gives you when you hang these pathetic miniature toy inside their cage. This toy, however, was a decent size for a macaw, and my picky bird enjoyed her time shredding it! I was happy that she was happy and end of story. She will be getting another one soon!

Bought for my Umbrella Cockatoo and he really likes it, it's well made and tough providing a challenge for my boy to chew and shred. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone else who has large parrots. I'll be buying it again once he finishes demolishing this 1. 5*s all the way !

very high quality toy, though I predict a very short lived one. Came with a quality hook for top of cage hanging. Most of the other toys I ordered either came with NO hook....strange, or a tiny hook that didn't fit the wire of the cages... This toy is HUGE! A Macaw would love this, for about a day. My amazon and African grey will be able to "use" it for about 2 weeks....

We rescued a Grey who chews her feathers. This toy distracts that urge and she pulls out the confetti and chews on the rope and the hand-held toys inside, Once all the insides are gone, the rope 'pouch' is still chewable, and then you replace and start over. Our bird is now letting her neck feathers grow in. I believe that this toy is a major positive contibutor to her new beauty. It satisfies her shredding and chewing and mischief needs. You will need to replace it a regular basis as it is a "consumable".
