It's proven, I mean I tried it out on my hand it hurts like hitting your thumb with a sledgehammer (not recommend this even if you don't like your thumb). I did watch a stack of internet videos of people trying out various hammers and similar systems, this was the only one that worked consistently. Also, it wasn't expensive. I decided not to try it out on my windows as I don't feel like replacing the just yet. I like that it came with a zip-tie to secure it to my sun shade where it will stay put even through an accident and assuming I haven't broken both of my arms I can reach it and use it while hanging upside down in water yelling at my buddy Allison for getting us into this mess again. Allison is a good friend but she gets crazy when someone cuts her off in traffic or you were blue stripes with polka dot socks. the clip releases quickly and I tried that out a few times while nursing my hand from when I tested the hammer out- I mean I didn't read the instruction carefully and mistakenly thought I had to "cock it." I mean you cock the hammer on a gun, right? Allison laughed a lot at me over this manly oversight. I do love her - of course, I did make her walk home for shaming my manhood like that- I am exaggerating- we were parked in front of her house. I gave her my extra one, I love that woman also I want her to be safe too.

This is the best of the escape tools! First, its small and is easy to use with only the left hand. Second, remove the key ring and zip tie it directly to the left stem (turn signal on most). Already in the proper position, just pull down to release into left land and go straight to the driver window and "pop" the glass. Boom! Glass gone. Now release your belt it use the belt cutter on the tool. I've had these on every vehicle for years bc we are in Florida and water is everywhere. Practice is easy on a piece of wood, it resets itself and will reattach to holder clip.

Just had to use one of these that I keep on my keychain. I was first on scene of a nasty wrong-way crash. The driver and a passenger were stuck inside the vehicle. The doors could not be easily opened (on the driver side) so I pulled out my keys and used this tool to pop out the window. It instantly caused the tempered glass to shatter and I knocked the excess away with my flashflight before using a knife to cut away at the airbags. The woman survived and it was incredibly comforting for her to see me face to face and know that she had a way out and that she wasn't stuck. We waited for a little and paramedics arrived and were able to give everyone the care they needed. This was a real-life scenario and this product worked. Would absolutely recommend. Photo from after the fire department transported everyone.

I have mine hanging from my rearview mirror using the included zip tie. It is attached to the black bit that covers the seatbelt cover so you can easily take it off and put it back on again. IF YOU'RE CURIOUS ABOUT WHETHER THE GLASS BREAKER WORKS OR NOT: I was considering sending this back because I couldn't get the glass breaker to engage when I used my fingers. I was too much of a chicken to cover the hole with my thumb, but I tried pressing on either side of the hole that the little pin supposedly hides in to get it to engage. This won't get it to engage. As far as I can tell, you need superhuman strength (or at least more strength than I have). TO TEST IF IT WORKS, get something like a hardcover notebook (don't ruin a real book, you dunderheads) or something hard but not breakable, and really give it a good push up against the hard thing. It's noisy and it startled me, but my day book now has a permanent dent in the back where I tested the tool.

I'm a firefighter and I have used this tool many times on the job over the years and it works very nicely. There are a few points that should be explained to anyone buying this.... 1) If possible, wear a glove! you have to push this against the window with some force to activate it and it is easy for your hand to continue forward once it shatters. sometimes just a hole surrounded by cracked glass....it's sharp...it hurts. If you don't have gloves, make a conscious effort to not continue forward when the glass gives. 2) Side windows are tempered glass and windshields are laminated glass. This will work on a side window but not a windshield/rear windshield. Side windows "cube' and fall apart windshields do not because the plastic sheeting in them keeps the shards together. It is hard to kick a windshield out even after it has "spidered". 3) A good spot is usually near the corner (about 2"-3" diagonal from corner) and there's less chance of putting your hand through it at the corner....did I say that glass is sharp? And that it hurts? It is....and it does! 4) If you're getting someone out of a car and they're conscious...tell 'em to turn away when you break the window...cuz...you know...sharp...hurts... 5) Seat-belt cutters work way better if you can manage to pull the belt taught with your other hand. 6) If you have this hanging off a fire-coat...it is very likely it will fall off...break off...etc. I stick mine in the rubber flashlight band on my helmet. Not that I wanna tell you where to stick it or.......yeah....OK... 7) These don't work over and over forever. The point gets dull. But when I get a new one, In usually test fire it on a thick piece of cardboard or soft wood to make sure that it functions. 8) Just hold against window and push until it pops. That is all....stay safe...and remember... Glass is sharp....and it hurts!

I first heard about this type of product in a YouTube video. After watching, I did some investigating here on Amazon, and decided on this product. I'm glad that I did! First off, I love that this fits onto a keyring. Many of these products are designed to go into your glove compartment, but the problem that I have with that concept is that in the event of an accident, the glove compartment might pop open, sending the contents flying all over the car, and you might not be able to find or reach the tool. With this product, it's on your keyring, and your keys will almost certainly still be in the ignition, and easily accessible. To test the functionality, I gathered a couple of old garments that don't get worn anymore and tested the blade used for cutting a seatbelt. The garments I tested this with aren't as rigid as the material of a seatbelt, but with how easily it sliced through them, I don't doubt that it could cut through a seatbelt with ease. To test the window punch, I used an old window off of the apartment that was lying in the garage. Yeah, it shattered it instantly. Shards of glass went everywhere! So, I have no doubt that it would break your car window with ease. All in all, this is something I think everyone should have on their keyring. Not only to potentially save your own life, or the life of a loved one, but also to potentially help a stranger in the event that you witness or come across an accident where this tool could be of use.

I work in the Medical and Rescue field and have to say this is a great product to have on your keychain. One of the concerns I had when buying this was the breakaway portion of the device itself but that was an unfounded fear. This IS something that will save your life if you are ever trapped in your own vehicle as it will stay connected to your keys in the ignition which means that you WILL be able to reach it without major issue. It will not easily detach without you pulling it off which means will be available where you want it when you need it. I have nothing negative to say about this and have bought one for my wife as well to have.

My husband is a police officer and had a person trapped in a car they needed to get to. Other officers tried busting the window with other tools and would not work. He used this tool I bought him and said it worked on the very first try with no effort. He said his arm went flying through the window so quick and easily he was sure he’d get cut up, but the way the tool is designed, it shattered the glass into tiny pieces that no shards were created. It was a clean break with no injury or cuts to anyone. We both highly recommend this tool for parent of young children too. It’s easy to use, just push against the glass you’re trying to break. Great for police or emergency first responders or parents.

I've given one to my fiance! I'm an LAFD CERT member and while this isn't one of my SAR tools as it's too light for repeated heavy use, I've tested it with success for its intended purpose. It's not just for saving my life, but combined with the gloves, shears, CPR Mask & Tourniquet I EDC, and the EMT bag & fire extinguisher in my trunk, this tool could very well be used to save another person's life. The ability to have a glass punch & rescue cutter on your person for such a low price, low weight, and low size considering that it can save not only your life but someone else's justifies buying several. Can't recommend enough.
